Committed to His Will, His Way, and His Word August 16, 2015 Our Vision Statement "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Luke 4:18-19 (NKJ) It is the vision of Mount Olive to be a church that is intentional in its efforts to identify and meet the needs of broken, hurt and oppressed people in the greater Glen Allen area through the message and ministry of Jesus Christ. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. MOBC FAITH DEVELOPMENT!! May 24 August 29, 2015 PENTECOST, the fiftieth day after Easter, comes from the Greek word for fiftieth, pentekoste. Greek-speaking Jews called the Jewish Feast of Weeks the Day of Pentecost. Acts 2 tells how the anxious and fearful disciples, who had gathered on the Day of Pentecost, were filled with the Holy Spirit and thereafter preached boldly the gospel of Jesus Christ. This is the day on which the church received the Holy Spirit. COLORS FOR PENTECOST: RED OR RED ON WHITE. RED, THE COLOR OF FIRE, REPRESENTS THE HOLY SPIRIT. Theme For This Quarter: GOD S PROPHETS DEMAND JUSTICE This quarter has three units justice and injustice. These lessons, covering seven different prophets, investigate the perpetrators of injustice, the nature of injustice, and the victims of injustice. It steadily moves toward repentance, redemption, and restoration. UNIT 111 -- ADVOCATES OF JUSTICE FOR ALL The third and final unit finds us in Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Zechariah, & Malachi. While justice does demand that sins be punished, handing our that punishment is not what God wants to do with His children when they sin. What God really wants is for them to repent and turn back to Him. NEXT WEEK S LESSON: August 23, 2015 God Demands Justice Zechariah 7:8-14 Some people show no kindness, mercy, or justice to others. Who will protect the weak from their oppressors? Zechariah says that God requires kindness and mercy for the widows, orphans, foreigners, and the poor a message He has long been sharing with His people. * MONDAY: You Behaved Worse than Your Ancestors Jeremiah 16:9-13 * TUESDAY: I Call Upon the Lord 2 Samuel 22:1-7 * WEDNESDAY: Hope in God s Steadfast Love Psalm 147:1-11 * THURSDAY: Walk in the Way Judges 2:16-23 * FRIDAY: Pursue Justice and Only Justice Deuteronomy 16:16-20 * SATURDAY: The Lord Waits to Be Gracious Isaiah 30:18-26 * SUNDAY: The Results of Not Listening Zechariah 7:8-14 Sermon Highlights August 9, 2015 Title: Hope For Our Families Text: Luke 2:1-14 Main Idea: Even though there are problems in our families, there is still hope. Our hope is rooted in Christ Jesus being in the family picture. Hope that comes from Jesus being in the family picture will: HOW TO ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST INTO YOUR HEART Perhaps while reading the announcements you realized you have never made a Christian commitment. Don t delay that decision! We encourage you to embrace God s love today and receive the salvation that only Jesus Christ gives. Here are five simple steps you can take to find assurance of salvation. 1. Recognize your need. The Bible tell us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Rom. 3:23) All of us are sinners, and we must admit our need for a Savior. 2. Repent of your sins. Our sins create a wall that separates us from God. By confessing our sins and turning from them, you will find forgiveness. The Bible promises: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). 3. Believe in Jesus. God sent His only Son to die so that He could pay for all our sins. Put your faith in Him and believe in His power to save you. The Bible says, For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16). 4. Receive His salvation. God has given us a great gift in His Son, but we must receive His gift. Thank Him for loving and forgiving you, and ask Him to live in your heart. His promise to us is clear: But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12). 5. Confess your faith. The Bible assures us: If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Rom. 10:9). You have been born again and are now part of God s family. Tell some one else what Jesus has done in your life! 2 Points: 1) Enable you to remember God s faithfulness & goodness. 2) Enable you not to change for the worse. 3) Enable a celebration. For the full message order a CD or DVD of the service from the Media Ministry. CDs $5.00; Double CDs $7.00; DVDs $10.00 MOBC Bible Institute on Summer break. Class will reconvene in September.

From the National Summer Learning Association: To succeed in school and life, children and young adults need ongoing opportunities to learn and practice essential skills. This is especially true during the summer months. Many Americans have a wonderful image of summer as a carefree, happy time when "kids can be kids, and take for granted the prospect of enriching experiences such as summer camps, time with family, and trips to museums, parks, and libraries. Unfortunately, some youth face anything but idyllic summer months. When the school doors close, many children struggle to access educational opportunities, as well as basic needs such as healthy meals and adequate adult supervision. Did You Know? All young people experience learning losses when they do not engage in educational activities during the summer. Research spanning 100 years shows that students typically score lower on standardized tests at the end of summer vacation than they do on the same tests at the beginning of the summer (White, 1906; Heyns, 1978; Entwisle & Alexander 1992; Cooper, 1996; Downey et al, 2004). Most students lose about two months of grade level equivalency in mathematical computation skills over the summer months. Low-income students also lose more than two months in reading achievement, despite the fact that their middle-class peers make slight gains (Cooper, 1996). More than half of the achievement gap between lower- and higher-income youth can be explained by unequal access to summer learning opportunities. As a result, low-income youth are less likely to graduate from high school or enter college (Alexander et al, 2007). Children lose more than academic knowledge over the summer. Most children particularly children at high risk of obesity gain weight more rapidly when they are out of school during summer break Von Hippel et al, 2007). Parents consistently cite summer as the most difficult time to ensure that their children have productive things to do (Duffett et al, 2004).

1. Age Targeted Teaching: Where else can your kids get Biblical instruction that's focused toward their developmental abilities? 2. Friends: In Sunday School, your child will build positive friendships with their peers by discovering God's Word together. 3. It's Fun: Sunday School is not Disney Land, but our teachers do work hard to teach the Bible in ways that are relevant and fun for kids. 4. Spiritual Mentors: A dedicated teacher can be a Christian role model who supports you and helps inspire the faith of your child. 5. Systematic Bible Learning: Our curriculum is designed to give a broad foundation, so children will understand how all the parts of Scripture point to Christ. 6. Praying Teachers: Our teachers consistently pray for your child's faith to grow. Coming to Sunday School gives another occasion for God to answer those requests. 7. Big Reward For a Small Investment: If you're already coming to church, just come a little earlier or stay a little later. 8. Send the Right Message: Making Sunday School a priority shows your kids that God's Word really does matter. 9. Adult Bible Fellowship: While the children enjoy their class, you can fellowship with other adults in your own Bible study group. 10. Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV): Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
