Love Lifted Me Recovery Ministries Noah and the Flood Lesson #5 - Genesis 8:3-19 (Most Scriptures used are from the New King James Version) http://www.loveliftedmerecovery.com Genesis 8:3-5 "And the waters receded continually from the earth. At the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters decreased. Then the ark rested in the seventh month, the seventeenth day of the month, on the MOUNTAINS of Ararat. And the WATERS DECREASED continually until the tenth month. In the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains were seen." Isaiah 54:9-10 "'For this is like the of to Me; for as I have sworn that the of would no longer cover the. So Have I sworn that I would not be angry with you nor rebuke you. For the shall depart and the be removed, but my shall not depart from you, nor shall My of be removed',' says the Lord, who has mercy on you." Psalm 72:3 "The will bring to the people, and the little, by righteousness." Psalm 148:4-9 "Praise Him, you heavens of heavens, and you above the! Let them praise the name of the Lord, for He commanded and they were created. He has also them forever and ever; He has made a decree which shall not pass away. Praise the Lord from the earth, you great and all the ; fire and hail, show and clouds; stormy wind, fulfilling His ; and all ; fruitful trees and all cedars..." Definition: "On the MOUNTAINS of ARARAT" - The mountains of Ararat are in what is now the country of Turkey, and this is where the ark came to rest. In the past, there have been scientific expeditions that have claimed to have found the ark, and even men who have said they went inside the ark and saw all the rooms where the animals were kept. After airplanes were invented, there have also been many sightings of what is thought to be the ark, high up on the mountains of Ararat in Turkey. These are very high mountains, and most of the year, it is hidden in the ice, but at certain times of the year, when it is exceptionally hot and the ice has melted, Noah's ark can be seen. The terrain is exceedingly difficult, and some expeditions have had to turn back because of the land around the ark turning to a swamp full of mosquitoes after the ice had melted. The Russian expedition that found the ark and actually went inside had photographs, but they were destroyed by the Communists when they came into power in Russia. The Communists were atheists, and did not want anything to prove that the Bible is correct. The final question remains: did God leave the ark in such a difficult place in order that we could NOT find it, and that we would have to ACCEPT and BELIEVE His WORD by FAITH? Psalm 90:2 "Before the were brought forth, or ever You had formed the and the, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God." Hebrews 11:1 "Now is the substance (assurance) of things hoped for, the of things NOT." II Corinthians 5:7 "For we walk by, not by." John 20:25-29 "The other disciples therefore said to him, 'We have seen the Lord.' But he said to them, 'Unless I in His the

of the, and put my finger into the of the, and put my hand into His, I will not believe.' And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, 'Peace to you!' Then He said to Thomas, 'Reach your finger here, and at My ; and reach your here, and it into My. Do not be unbelieving, but. And Thomas answered and said to Him, 'My Lord and my God!' Jesus said to him, 'Thomas, because you have Me, you have believed. are those who have not and yet have.'" Definition: "The WATERS DECREASED continually until the TENTH MONTH" - There was obviously a lot of water from the forty days and nights of rain, and from the fountains of the deep being broken up and spewing out their geysers of water from underneath the earth! It was not until "In the tenth month, on the first day of the month, [that] the tops of the mountains were seen." That means it took ten months for the water covering the earth to decrease enough so that even the tops of the mountains were clear. That is a tremendous amount of water! The whole face of the earth would be changed, as well, because the earthquakes caused by the fountains of the deep breaking up would have shoved great ridges of earth upwards, thus forming the mountains that we now have on the earth. Scientists have found fossils up high on mountain tops of clams and other creatures that normally dwell on the bottom of the ocean. How else did they get there except that the mountains were once covered by water, and as the land was pushed upwards, the dead sea creatures in the mud turned to fossils? Fossils are formed when a living creature dies suddenly and is immediately incased in mud, under terrific pressure. These were the exact conditions happening at that time in the earth, to all the creatures that died in the flood. Psalm 46:1-3 "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth be removed, and though the be carried into the midst of the ; though its roar and be troubled, though the shake with swelling." Psalm 104:5-9 "You who laid the foundations of the earth, so that it should not be moved forever, You it with the deep (flood) as with a garment; the stood above the. At Your rebuke they fled; at the voice of Your thunder they hastened. They went up over the ; they went down into the, to the place which You founded for them. You have set a boundary that they may not pass over, that they may not return to the." Definition: "They went up over the MOUNTAINS; they went down into the VALLEYS" - This simply means that the waters of the Flood decreased back down from the higher points of land, such as the mountains, and filled up the lower parts, such as valleys, thus forming lakes and seas. Over a period of time, the oceans kept filling up, and the continents became separated. For many years after the Flood, people and animals would have been able to walk and migrate to what are now the separate continents, but were then all accessible by land. The Bible tells us that God caused people to speak in different languages, and caused them to be scattered over all the earth. This would have happened before the continents became separated by the oceans. Once the oceans filled up, only points of higher land, forming islands, would be left sticking up out of the water, such as the Aleutian Islands, which was once a "land bridge" from Asia to North America.

Genesis 11:8-9 "So the Lord them abroad from there over the of the, and they ceased building the city. Therefore its name if called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth; and from there the Lord them over the of the." Genesis 8:6-9 "So it came to pass, at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made. Then he SENT out a RAVEN, which kept going to and fro until the waters had dried up from the earth. He also SENT out from himself a DOVE, to see if the waters had receded from the face of the ground. But the dove found no resting place for the sole of her foot, and she returned into the ark to him, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth. So he put out his hand and took her, and drew her into the ark to himself. " Psalm 147:7-9 "Sing to the with thanksgiving; sing praises on the harp to our God, who covers the heavens with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth, who makes to on the. He gives to the beast its, and to the young that cry." Definition: "Then he SENT out a RAVEN" - In the natural, both the raven and the dove would have returned to the ark if there was no dry land for them to live on. In the supernatural, we see that God has used ravens before to carry out His plans and purposes for His people, such as Elijah. God actually had the ravens bring food to Elijah for a time, both in the morning and in the evening. God's creation obeys Him when God has a use for them. I Kings 17:1-6 "And the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, 'As the Lord God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall be nor these years, except at my. Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, 'Get away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. And it will be that you shall from the brook, and I have commanded the to feed you there.' So he went and did according to the word of the Lord, for he went and stayed by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. The brought him and in the morning, and and in the evening; and he drank from the brook." Genesis 8:10-12 "And he WAITED yet another seven days, and again he sent the dove out from the ark. Then the dove came to him in the evening, and behold, a freshly plucked olive leaf was in her mouth; and Noah knew that the WATERS had ABATED from the earth. So he WAITED yet another seven days and sent out the dove, which did not return again to him anymore." Psalm 37:34 " on the Lord, and keep His way, and He shall exalt you to inherit the..." Definition: "Noah knew that the WATERS had ABATED from the earth" - Noah kept sending out the dove until it came back with evidence that the flood waters had abated from the earth. Noah and his family had spent over a year in the ark, and I'm sure were very anxious to get out and be free on dry land. The ark may have even seemed like a prison by this time, although it was God's protection and deliverance for them. How often do we get anxious and impatient with God and His timetable, and we think that He should order His affairs according to our schedule? How much better to

wait until God's perfect timing, rather than get off the ark too soon and get stuck in the mud! One of the hardest things for us to do, imperfect sinful creatures that we are, is to wait for God to answer our prayers according to His wisdom and His timing. We are so impatient, and we want what we want, and we want it now! There is an expression used in the Bible called"waiting on the Lord", and we must learn to practice that kind of waiting. Sometimes God answers our prayers immediately, but other times there is a greater lesson to be learned in the "waiting on God" period, and so He does not give us an immediate answer. The word translated "wait" also has the meaning of "hope" and "lean on" God. We are not supposed to just wait on God in a vacuum, doing nothing, but we are to trust and lean on Him, trusting that He is working everything out in His perfect timing. Psalm 25:3-5 "Indeed, let no one who on be ashamed; let those be ashamed who deal treacherously without cause. Show me Your, O ; teach me Your paths. me in Your and me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I all the day." Psalm 27:14 " on the ; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart;, I say, on the Lord!" Psalm 37:4-5 "Delight yourself also in the, and He shall give you the desires of your. Commit your way to the Lord, also in Him, and He shall it to." Psalm 37:7-8 " in the Lord, and patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. Cease from, and forsake wrath; do not fret (worry) - it only causes." Genesis 8:13-14 "And it came to pass in the six hundred and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, that the waters were dried up from the earth; and Noah removed the covering of the ark and looked, and indeed the surface of the ground was dry. And in the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth was dried." Psalm 74:15 "You broke open the and the ; You up mighty rivers." Isaiah 44:24 & 27 "Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, and He who formed you from the womb; 'I am the Lord, who all, who stretches out the all alone, who spreads abroad the by Myself..." (Verse 27) "Who says to the, 'Be!' And I will up your rivers.'" Genesis 8:15-19 "Then God spoke to Noah, saying, 'Go out of the ark, YOU and your WIFE, and your SONS and your sons' WIVES with you. Bring out with you every living thing of all flesh that is with you: birds and cattle and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, so that they may abound on the earth, and be FRUITFUL and MULTIPLY on the earth.' So Noah went out, and his sons and his wife and his sons' wives with him. Every beast, every creeping thing, every bird, and whatever creeps on the earth, according to their families, went out of the ark." Genesis 9:18-19 "Now the of who went out of the ark were,, and. And Ham was the father of Canaan. These were the of, and from these the earth was." Definition: "From THESE the WHOLE EARTH was POPULATED" - That's correct - every single person on the earth today is descended from Noah and his three sons and

their wives. All the races are descended from Noah, and the racial differences such as skin color, curly or straight hair, and so forth all came from the original DNA of these eight people. As different groups of people migrated to certain areas in the earth, and were cut off from other people, they would have only married amongst themselves, and become inbred until their racial characteristics were very distinctive.
