All around us are amazing things. The sun and the moon and the stars. Who made them? Somebody must have made them.

Most people in the world believe that someone created all these amazing things we see in the skies and on the earth. But a few people don t believe Allah made these things. Only a few people, though.

Those people believe that all the things in the Universe like the sun and the stars made themselves. These people say nobody made these amazing things. These things just started by themselves.

But then who made these people? Were they made by nothing? Or did they make themselves?

When a person knows that Allah made everything in the Universe, then he should worship only Allah. The person knows that one day he will meet Allah.

Allah will ask the person about whether he did good things in his life. Or did he live a life where he did bad things?

Allah will ask the person about what he used to do when he was young. When we are young, we are strong and have energy to do lots of good things.

Allah will ask the person about the money that the person had. Did he get his money by doing good things, by being truthful? Or did he get his money by doing bad things, like stealing?

Did he spend it on good things? Or did he spend it on bad things?

Allah will ask the person whether he did the things which he knew were good. Or did the person do things which he knew were bad? The person will have to tell Allah these things, even though Allah knows about them already.

And when we know all that, it makes us scared of doing bad things. We know that Allah might punish us for those bad things. Even if we hide the bad things we do from everyone, then we cannot hide them from Allah. Allah knows everything.

What about a person who does not believe in Allah? A person who thinks that the sun and moon made themselves? A person who doesn t think that he will ever meet Allah?

A person who doesn t think that Allah will ever ask him about whether he used to do good things or bad things? What will he spend his time doing?

He may do some good things sometimes. He might do some bad things sometimes. Does this person know everything? Does he always know what is good for him? No. But Allah knows everything.

So a person who does not believe in Allah tries to guess what will make him happy. But he doesn t always know. Often he is sad.

He doesn t really know what happens to him when he dies. He doesn t really know why he has been created.

He doesn t really understand why things happen to him which he doesn t like. He doesn t really understand why bad things happen in the world. He doesn t really understand much at all. But we do - don t we?

Key points for teachers The belief in a Creator is something that is found in all communities in all times. The people who deny the existence of a Creator are only a few in number compared to those who believe in a Creator. Those who deny the existence of a Creator cannot come up with a rational explanation for how or why the Creation came into existence. Belief in a Creator should engender in a person a desire to worship that Creator. The person should also have fear of being questioned by his Creator, which should in turn instil a desire in him to do good deeds and avoid bad deeds. Allaah s questioning the person about his deeds does not imply that Allaah does not know about the person s deeds already. Denial of a Creator renders the person s life purposeless. It also blocks the person from learning about what will benefit him and what will harm him - for this knowledge is only truly known to Allaah. Denial of a Creator and rejection of His Message can only bring about sadness to the person since he does not understand the purpose of his existence on this earth nor does he know what things will truly benefit him and make him happy. The Muslim however acknowledges the existence of the Creator, and therefore worships Him alone, and follows His Path, and in doing so finds happiness and contentment.

Possible discussion points: 1) Do you think that the sun and moon made themselves out of nothing? 2) Who made the sun and the moon? 3) Do you think that Allah would create us but not tell us what to do? 4) Do you think Allah wants us to be sad? 5) Do you think that Allah tells us what will make us happy? 6) Do you know everything? 7) Who knows everything? 8) Do you want to be happy? 9) If you do what Allah tells you will you be happy?
