Leave behind your busyness and be fully present to God. We come for some relief from life s turmoil. God gathers us as a shepherd gathers her sheep. God s steadfast love surrounds us here. We are reminded of God s enduring faithfulness. This is God s house, and we are God s children. God invites us to feel at home in this place. We have a covenant with our Creator. Worship is a time for renewal of our promises. God calls for righteousness and justice. God offers us goodness and mercy all of our days. *HYMN *HYMN Lord, When I Came into This Life Hymnal # 691 *PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison) God of all times and places, we confess that we have wandered after the false gods of this age. We have disobeyed your commandments, violated your covenant with us, and forsaken your ways. We have denied our need for you and mistreated those whom you have called us to love. We have become strangers to you and to one another, plagued by the false values that squeeze life from our souls. Loving God, hear us as we pray. Shower us with your mercy and bring us home once more, in Jesus name. Amen.

*ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS (responsive) We are no longer strangers, but citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets with Jesus Christ as our cornerstone. We are the church, God s forgiven and forgiving people, becoming a temple in which God is pleased to dwell. Let us join our spirits and voices in giving thanks for God s pardon and the ongoing offer of hope and healing in Christ. *RESPONSE *RESPONSE Lord, Listen to Your Children Praying Hymnal # 469 A TIME WITH THE CHILDREN PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION (unison) Jan Mahoney Overwhelm us with your Spirit, O God, that the words we hear will speak to our hearts as your Word, made known to us in Jesus Christ our Lord. PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION ON ON (unison) Gracious God, you have gathered us at this table with all the company of your people on heaven and on earth. In your mercy we have been nourished by the living bread, Jesus Christ, and we have been refreshed by the power of your Holy Spirit. May we, who have shared this holy meal, go out as disciples of our Lord, following in his way, proclaiming his truth, and living his love for all your children in this world, through Christ our Lord. We will have a brief congregational meeting for the purpose of approving a loan to repair/replace the flat roof. All members of the congregation are encouraged to stay for this meeting. You are invited to visit the community garden after the meeting this morning. It is absolutely beautiful and the gardeners would like to show you what we have done with a chunk of unused, weekly land behind the church. We will be serving treats and iced tea. Scrip cards are on sale this morning. Scrip is a fundraiser that uses gift cards purchased at face-value. Most people purchase these cards for their every-day purchases The church receives an instant rebate when you purchase the cards resulting in profit for our church. You can pay by cash, check, or online with a pre-registration account. Cards not on hand this morning will be available to pick up next Sunday. Confirmation youth are invited to Jan Mahoney s house (8310 Jasmine Ave. So., Cottage Grove) this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. for Chicago-style pizza and swimming. Please RSVP to Pastor Katie if you have not done so already, so we can plan for pizza. This Wednesday, July 22, will be the final acoustic jam. Everyone is welcome to join us at 7:00 p.m. in the North Commons even if you haven t been here for the other jams. Join us at Feed My Starving Children tomorrow, July 20, 2:30-4:30 p.m. Children are always welcome to volunteer with a parent. We all enjoyed the experience when we went with Camp in a Van so come back and do it again! Please sign up on the kiosk and join us in this rewarding event. It makes us feel good as well as the children it serves. The senior high youth return from their mission trip tomorrow and are sure to have pictures and stories to share. Mark your calendars now for Sunday, August 23. We ll have a summer celebration during and after worship, with guest Peter Buller on guitar. We will celebrate both of our youth mission trips, camping at Clearwater, and our week of Camp in a Van. Next Sunday s Adult Ed class will be different from what was listed in the July Tower Views. This class will focus on Alzheimer s disease and will show the first half of the movie, Still Alice, a story abut a character names Alice Howard played by Julianne Moore who, while enjoying her life of being married and being part of her three grown children s lives, begins to forget words and is later diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer s disease. This movie also stars Alec Bladwin, Kate Bosworth, Hunter Parrish and Kristen Stewart. Part 2 of this movie will be shown in the class on Sunday, August 9.

Give the card to an usher before worship or during the first hymn so it can be included in our prayers of the people today and passed on to the prayer chain as well. Children of all ages are welcome in our worship service. We also have professional childcare available for infants and children up to 5 years. The nursery is located at the top of the stairs in the upper level of the Education wing and is always available on those days your child may be restless. If you have an infant who begins to cry during the service, feel free to go into the library with your child and continue to hear the service on the speaker. Please join us after the worship service for a time of fellowship in the Commons. Coffee, juice and treats are available for a minimal charge for members and at no cost for guests.
