Leave behind your busyness and be fully present to God. We come for some relief from life s turmoil. God gathers us as a shepherd gathers her sheep. God s steadfast love surrounds us here. We are reminded of God s enduring faithfulness. This is God s house, and we are God s children. God invites us to feel at home in this place. We have a covenant with our Creator. Worship is a time for renewal of our promises. God calls for righteousness and justice. God offers us goodness and mercy all of our days. *HYMN *HYMN Lord, When I Came into This Life Hymnal # 691 *PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison) God of all times and places, we confess that we have wandered after the false gods of this age. We have disobeyed your commandments, violated your covenant with us, and forsaken your ways. We have denied our need for you and mistreated those whom you have called us to love. We have become strangers to you and to one another, plagued by the false values that squeeze life from our souls. Loving God, hear us as we pray. Shower us with your mercy and bring us home once more, in Jesus name. Amen.
*ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS (responsive) We are no longer strangers, but citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets with Jesus Christ as our cornerstone. We are the church, God s forgiven and forgiving people, becoming a temple in which God is pleased to dwell. Let us join our spirits and voices in giving thanks for God s pardon and the ongoing offer of hope and healing in Christ. *RESPONSE *RESPONSE Lord, Listen to Your Children Praying Hymnal # 469 A TIME WITH THE CHILDREN PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION (unison) Jan Mahoney Overwhelm us with your Spirit, O God, that the words we hear will speak to our hearts as your Word, made known to us in Jesus Christ our Lord.
