Sunday of the most holy trinity ST. MARON MARONITE CATHOLIC CHURCH June 11, 2017 In school, children will joke about "mystery meat" when they do not know what the cafeteria is serving. On the various video streaming sites, one can watch hours of "who done it" mysteries. Men and women will often joke about each other being mysteries or mysterious. In the Bible, the Greek Word often used is Mysterion, which means something that can only be known through revelation and it comes from a word which describes the physical actions of preparing oneself to be initiated in a religious ritual. The Syriac word is Raze, and likewise refers to things learned in religious rituals. What is important is that past a basic meaning of the individual words, "the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, one God," the mystery of the Trinity is not a concept to be understood, but a reality to be known and encountered. It is the encounter with God, the personal knowledge of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit that reveals the Trinity, reveals that reason is not contradicted, reveals that this mystery is the mystery. The Trinity- a union of love- described as a family, as the warmth, heat, and light of the sun, as the idea, sound, and breath of a word, as a loving relationship of self knowledge- reveals to us that (1)God does not need us and (2)He loves us. The first part of this phrase(1) is a statement about God in Himself, that He is "Alpha and Omega, first and last", (Revelations 22:13) "all in all" ( 1 Corinthians 15:28). The second part of the phrase (2) is a statement about God's voluntary relationship with us. God was under no obligation to make us and He does not force us to love, thank, or praise Him, He loves. These two phrases can be condensed into a further summary of the Trinity, a further condensation of the mystery that God wishes to reveal to us, "God is love." (1 John 4:8) At this point, it is important to clarify that a vague or emotional notion of love is not Christianity. Nor is being "loving" or a "good person" a replacement for the encounter with God as love. Likewise, it is not enough to say of God, ourselves, and reality, "it's a mystery." It is entirely different to say, I have met God- in the poor, in the Eucharist, in the Church, in prayer- personally and in a real way. The mystery, the question of "why" which children ask and we may have long forgotten is to know God "with you always." (Matthew 28:20) Emergency: 216-333-0760 Rev. Msgr. Brothers and sisters, So that you may not claim to be wiser than you are, I want you to understand this mystery: a hardening has come upon part of Israel, until the full number of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved; as it is written, Out of Zion will come the Deliverer; he will banish ungodliness from Jacob. And this is my covenant with them, when I take away their sins. As regards the gospel they are enemies of God for your sake; but as regards election they are beloved, for the sake of their ancestors; for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. Just as you were once disobedient to God but have now received mercy because of their disobedience, so they have now been disobedient in order that, by the mercy shown to you, they too may now receive mercy. For God has imprisoned all in disobedience so that he may be merciful to all. O the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! For who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor? Or who has given a gift to him, to receive a gift in return? For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever. Amen. Praise be to God always! When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. This is the truth! Peace be with you.

A cold and calculating heart that is closed to the Holy Spirit results in a faith that is ideological, he said May 29 during a morning Mass in the chapel of the Domus Sanctae Marthae. Knowing God and his commandments, and being good are not enough, the pope said. One must also receive God s gift of the Holy Spirit and let him trouble the heart. If people were to get a spiritual electrocardiogram, the pope asked, would it be flatlined because the heart is hardened, unmoved and emotionless or would it be pulsating with the prompting and prods of the Spirit? Am I able to listen (to) him? Am I able to ask for his inspiration before making a decision or saying something or doing something? Or is my heart serene, without emotion, an immobile heart, much like the doctors of the law had, he asked. POPE S MONTHLY INTENTIONS JUNE: National Leaders.
