Living Savior Lutheran Church 4616 Gharrett St Missoula, MT 59803 livingsaviormissoula.org 406.543.8222 Pastor Justin Cloute pastor@livingsaviormissoula.org August 8, 2016 Pentecost 12 WELCOME TO WORSHIP We are happy that you are here to worship with us and pray that the Lord bless you through his Word in your time with us. If you have any questions, please don t hesitate to ask one of the greeters or anyone else who looks like they know what is going on. Follow signs for the restrooms near the table in back of entryway. Parents, we know how hard it can be to get to church in the morning and are so thankful that you have brought your children. We enjoy hearing children in worship, but also understand that sometimes you may want to take them out. There is a small nursery room in the back of the church with an audio feed of worship. About the Way We Worship In worship we follow a regular order (liturgy) that follows the way the Christian church has worshipped throughout history. We believe that worship is an interaction between Christ and his people as we listen to his Word and then respond with hymns, songs, and prayers. Following the liturgy helps us keep our focus on Christ and his Word and Sacrament. THEME FOR TODAY S SERVICE EVERYTHING FOR THE GLORY OF GOD 1
OPENING HYMN Speak O Lord 735 2
ORDER OF SERVICE IN MEMORY OF ME * INVOCATION P: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. C: And also with you. CONFESSION OF SINS P: Blessed be God who is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and rich in love. God does not treat us as our sins deserve nor punish us according to our guilt. But he looks upon us in compassion, forgives our sin, and heals our lives. Therefore, let us confess our sin in the presence of God and one another. C: In your goodness, O God, have mercy on us. In your compassion cleanse us from our sin and take away our guilt. Create in us a steadfast spirit. Do not cast us away, but fill us with your Holy Spirit and restore your joy within us. * "Do This in Memory of Me" the entire service by David Haas. Copyright 2003, GIA Publications, Inc. 3
P: As tender as a loving father is to his child, so gentle is God with you. As high as the heavens are above the earth, so vast is God's love for you. As far as east is from west, so far God removes your sin from you. He renews your life through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Blessed be God who crowns us with mercy and love! C: Blessed be God forever! C (sings): This is the Feast 4
L: Worthy is Christ, the Lamb once slain, Whose blood was shed to give freedom for all. Power and riches, wisdom and strength, honor and blessing; come give glory to Christ! C: Refrain L: Sing out with joy, all people of God! Join in the song of creation! Blessing and honor, glory and might to God and the Lamb forever more! C: Refrain L: This is the feast for praise and rejoicing, For the Lamb, the one who was slain, Will come forth now and begin God's reign! Sing all you people, sing Alleluia! C: Refrain (repeat) PRAYER OF THE DAY P: Almighty and everlasting God, you are always more ready to hear than we to pray, and to give more than we either desire or deserve. Pour upon us the abundance of your mercy, forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid, and giving us those good things for which we are not worthy to ask, except through the merits and mediation of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen. 5
EPISTLE LESSON 2 Corinthians 9:6-11 The Apostle Paul calls for believers to be generous will all that God has given them. In this way a song of thanksgiving ascends to God. 6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 9 As it is written: They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever. 10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. VERSE OF THE DAY 6
NICENE CREED We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and became fully human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate. He suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who in unity with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church. We believe in one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. THE SERMON TEXT Luke 16:1-13 1 He also said to the disciples: There was a rich man who received an accusation that his manager was squandering his possessions. 2 So he called the manager in and asked, What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you can no longer be my manager. 3 Then the manager said to himself, What should I do, since my master is taking the management away from me? I m not strong enough to dig; I m ashamed to beg. 4 I know what I ll do so that when I m removed from management, people will welcome me into their homes. 5 So he summoned each one of his master s debtors. How much do you owe my master? he asked the first one. 6 A hundred measures of olive oil, he said. Take your invoice, he told him, sit down quickly, and write 50. 7 Next he asked another, How much do you owe? A hundred measures of wheat, he said. Take your invoice, he told him, and write 80. 8 The master praised the unrighteous manager because he had acted astutely. For the sons of this age are more astute than the sons of light in dealing with their own people. 9 And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of the unrighteous money so that when it fails, they may welcome you into eternal dwellings. 10 Whoever is faithful in very little is also faithful in much, and whoever is unrighteous in very little is also unrighteous in much. 11 So if you have not been faithful with the unrighteous money, who will trust you with what is genuine? 12 And if you have not been faithful with what belongs to someone else, who will give you what is your own? 13 No household slave can be the slave of two masters, since either he will hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You can t be slaves to both God and money. (HCSB) SERMON OFFERING Jesus says Use Your Money to Buy Friends for the Kingdom Luke 16:1-13 Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. - 2 Corinthians 9:7 INSTALLATION OF VICAR 9
PRAYER OF THE CHURCH LORD S PRAYER C: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. P: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. P: Lift up your hearts. C: We lift them up to the Lord. THE SACRAMENT P: Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God. C: It is right to give thanks and praise. P: It is truly good and right that we should at all times and in all places give you thanks, O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who promised that wherever two or three come together in his name, there he is with them to shepherd his flock till he comes again in glory. Therefore, with all the saints on earth and hosts of heaven, we praise your holy name and join their glorious song: 10

THE WORDS OF INSTITUTION P: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night he was betrayed, took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take and eat; this is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me. Then he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink from it, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me. As often as we share this meal we proclaim His death and resurrection until he comes again. LAMB OF GOD P: The peace of the Lord be with you always. C: Amen DISTRIBUTION We ask that only members of Living Savior or the WELS come forward for communion. If you would like to join us in the future please speak to pastor. 12
THANKSGIVING THE BLESSING P: The Almighty God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, bless you now and forever. C: Amen. CLOSING HYMN Take My Life and Let it Be 469 13
