3PK March 12-13, 2016 Matthew 26:17-20; John 3:16 First 10 minutes of the service hour: Engage kids in cooperative play activities to help them connect to other kids Next 5 minutes: Connect Time Next 25 minutes: Large Group The Last Supper Jesus wants us to stay near him. Before each section of the hour, remind kids of how we re supposed to act, and why. When we go into Large Group, we need to listen and respect our leader. When we sit down for small group or playtime, we need to be kind to our friends and show love to them. Last 25 minutes: Snack and Small Group Ask kids about their vine and branch craft, and what the pictures on it mean! Today s story is about the Last Supper that Jesus shared with his followers before he died on the cross to rescue us. The main focus of the story will be how Jesus wants to be close to us, just like he was close to his disciples.

GOAL: Connect time is all about engaging kids in a short, interactive game to prepare them for Large Group. Clean up! (10 minutes after the service start time, when you get the 5-minute warning from the presenter) Line up. Tell them to hold hands while staying in a line. Give them the following instructions, but they must be holding hands the whole time! o Reach your hands up to the sky o Reach hands down to the ground o Wiggle your arms o Wiggle your feet o Wiggle your whole body o Hop one time o Hop two times o Hop three times o Swing your hands back and forth o Stand on your tip-toes o Sit on the ground o Stand up Come up with as many actions as you want. As you walk into Large Group, encourage kids to put on their listening ears! Remind them that HOPS will be showing us how we should act in Large Group, so we have to listen!

Goal: Kids will (1) retell the story of the Last Supper and (2) understand how Jesus wants to be near us always Why? Jesus came to earth to be close to us, and we want kids to know Jesus is someone who wants to get to know them and spend time with them. Tip: Make sure to repeat, repeat repeat! Kids this age learn through repetition, so present the story to them multiple times, and in different ways. REVIEW THE STORY 1. Why did Jesus have a special meal with his friends? (he wanted to show them how to follow him and stay close to him after he left) 2. Why did Jesus surprise his disciples by washing their dirty, stinky feet? (He wanted to show them how to serve others and care for them) 3. Can we stay close to Jesus to by talking to him? (Yes.) What can we tell him? 4. Can we stay close to Jesus by doing things that he would do? (Yes) What kinds of things would Jesus do? 5. How do you like to spend time with Jesus? MAKE IT PERSONAL Hand each kid a vine page and 1 Bible sticker, 1 mouth sticker and 1 Jesus sticker. On each sticker, there s a picture that symbolizes how we can be close to Jesus. Do the corresponding motions with each picture. o Read the Bible (Put your hands in front of your, open with palms up.) o Talk to Jesus (Put your hands to your mouth.) o Follow Jesus (Pretend to walk in place or in your chair.) Have kids stick the images onto the vine, and remind them of the way Jesus wants to connect with us. Ask kids if they can think of a specific thing they can do this week to follow Jesus and be close to him. (Or give them ideas if they re too young.) Give kids a coloring page. Still have extra time? Play Simon Says, and have kids do actions that require them to be close to each other. For example, Simon Says stand back to back with a friend! Simon Says Stand right beside your friend! Simon Says hold someone s hand! Simon Says Touch someone s foot with your foot!

1 Today s script is pre-filmed! There will be lots of opportunities for kids to engage with the presenter on the screen, but we ll still need you to help kids focus and regroup anytime the presenter asks for a response from kids. Pay attention to how kids respond to the presenter, and how well they engage with the lesson. Respond along with them! If kids see YOU engaging directly with what the presenter says onscreen, they re much more likely to engage themselves. *Let us know how today goes for you, too! *Click to play intro music. Hi everybody, we ve got a special host today who s going to tell us a story and lead us as we sing and dance and listen and worship. It s going to be fun! Let s see who it is! Video: Large Group *Dismiss kids to small groups.
