JULY 22, 2018 I THE SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME So our Lord's sheep will finally reach, their grazing ground where all who follow him in simplicity of heart will feed on the green pastures of eternity. These pastures are the spiritual joys of heaven. There the elect look upon the face of God with unclouded vision and feast at the banquet of life for ever more. Beloved brothers, let us set out for these pastures where we shall keep joyful festival with so many of our fellow citizens. May the thought of their happiness urge us on! Let us stir up our hearts, rekindle our faith, and long eagerly for what heaven has in store for us. To love thus is to be already on our way. 9:00 & 11:00 Babysitting is available in the Cathedral Center Grace Suite for children ages 6 months 3 years. No matter what obstacles we encounter, we must not allow them to turn us aside from the joy of that heavenly feast. Anyone who is determined to reach his destination is not deterred by the roughness of the road that leads to it. Nor must we allow the charm of success to seduce us, or we shall be like a foolish traveler who is so distracted by the pleasant meadows through which he is passing that he forgets where he is going. VOLUME 72 NUMBER 29 2

We, the Congregation of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church of the Diocese of Lafayette, acknowledge Jesus as Lord and find in His person and mission our truest identity. Obedient to the promptings of the Spirit, we acknowledge His life and ministry; His dying and rising as profound expressions of the Father s constant love for all people. We faithfully join Him as ministers in His kingdom. Our mission involves the total restoration of humanity and the salvation of the whole person. Our response to this mission finds expression in programs that promote healing and unity in every aspect of the human person. Like Jesus, we seek to express solidarity with the poor and the oppressed, striving all the while to remove from ourselves and Church structures whatever promotes inequality, injustice and oppression. Centennial News - Sunday, July 22, 2018 Jesuits Come to Acadiana - In 1836 a contract was signed in France which would have a lasting effect on the Catholic Church in southwest Louisiana. The Archbishop of New Orleans contracted the Jesuits to come to Louisiana to establish a school for boys in Grand Coteau, where there was already a school for girls. The Jesuits arrived the following year and began building a school. On July 31, 1837 Archbishop Blanc laid the cornerstone of St. Charles College. In 1972, the campus of St. Charles College became the Jesuit Spirituality Center. Today, over 180 years later, the Jesuits remain active in the Diocese of Lafayette.
