A Summary of the Biblical Covenants The Adamic Covenant, of cursing and blessing (Gen. 3:14-19). The Noachic Covenant, or forbearance (Gen. 8:20-9:17). The Abrahamic Covenant, of promise (Gen. 12:1-3, 6-7; 13:14-17 15:1-21; 17:1-14; 22:15-18). The Mosaic Covenant, of law (Exod. 19:1-31:18). The Davidic Covenant, of kingship (II Sam. 7:1-17). The New/Everlasting Covenant, of fulfillment (Matt. 26:26-28; I Cor. 11:25; Heb. 13:20). 10/21/2013 10
The Noahic Covenant (Gen. 8:20-9:17) Its historic setting. The deliverance of Noah and his family from the flood (Gen. 8:13-15). The acceptable offerings of Noah (Gen. 8:20-21). 2. Its parties. Jehovah God (Gen. 8:21-22; 9:8-9). Noah and his seed (Gen. 8:21; 9:10-11). The animal remnant (Gen. 8:21; 9:10-11). 10/21/2013 11
The Noahic Covenant (cont.) Its unconditional nature. The commitment is God s alone quite apart from any human involvement (Gen. 8:21; 9:9, 11, 16). Consider the significance of unconditional seasons (Gen. 8:22). Consider the significance of the rainbow (Gen. 9:12-16). Its forecast of coming blessing. The inherent blessing of grace and peace to be saved remnant and its seed. The guarantee of temporal/material/earthly blessing. The spiritual/redemptive blessing. Christ is a better Mediator of grace and peace than Noah (Isa. 52:13-53:12; 54:5-10). 10/21/2013 12
The Noahic Covenant (cont.) Its practical implications. In considering the Adamic and Noachic covenants together, the promise of grace and peace in the midst of judgment is maintained. As an individual, Nah lays hold of the righteousness which is through faith, that is Christ s unconditional, gracious covenant (Heb. 11:7). If God is careful to maintain earthly, seasonal blessings, how much more can He be relied upon to maintain His spiritual blessings. 10/21/2013 13
