Proving God s Will

Proving God s Will We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased. - C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory

I. The Mandate for a Renewed Mind Honeyword Quote: When renewing our minds becomes our goal, God begins to change our soul.

II. The Description of a Renewed Mind 3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.

Romans 12:3 3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.

II. The Description of a Renewed Mind Honeyword Quote: When pride rears its ugly head, our Christian lives are as good as dead.

III. The Perspective of a Renewed Mind 4 For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. 6 And since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let each exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith; 7 in if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching; 8 or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

Romans 12:4-8 4 For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.

Definition of Spiritual Gifts Special abilities given by God through the Spirit to every believer in Jesus Christ as an act of grace and intended for the benefit of others. The benefit of spiritual gifts to others is spiritual, being the building up of the body of Christ. The distribution of spiritual gifts to individual Christians is determined entirely by God and not by us. The exercise of spiritual gifts requires faith and a demonstration of the Spirit s power. The descriptions of spiritual gifts in the Bible are always in the context of love.

Life as a Growing Christian

What Is Your Response? Is a deep understanding of God s mercy toward you what motivates you to pursue the Christian life? Are you seeking to renew your mind through the work of God s Spirit so that God will transform your life? Is pride hindering your ability to grow in Christ and to serve others in the body of Christ? Have you identified your spiritual gifts, and are you allowing God to use your life to bless others through your exercise of those gifts?
