Satan Accuses. The Spirit Convicts! Satan Accuses with Lies. The Spirit Convicts with Truth to Awaken and Correct the Human Conscience! My sweet child, unless my children reform their lives, they will suffer great persecution. If man himself will not take upon himself the penance necessary to atone for his sins and those of others, God in His justice will have to send upon him the punishments necessary to atone for his transgression. (Sister Mildred (Mary Ephrem) Neuzil, Diary, Our Lady of America, Fostoria, Ohio, pg. 17.) These words were spoken to Sister Mildred in April of 1957, fifty-three (53) years ago this month. They speak directly to the very reason why Jesus came into the world to die for our sins and to reconcile us to the Father so we might live again, and live in His Spirit and in His grace. Sin must be atoned for! God s perfect justice must be satisfied so His mercy can flow in abundance upon us. When Adam sinned, all mankind lost Paradise and was alienated from God. That offense against an infinite loving God by His creature had to be atoned for, and since it could only be adequately atoned for by one who could fully represent man by being a man, and one who could satisfy divine justice because he was also God, the Sacred Humanity was willed by the Father as the chosen means for our redemption, to make possible by this divine condescension what was impossible to humankind on its own. Mercy triumphed over justice while satisfying it. Who can imagine the love for us that would impel the Heavenly Father to ordain that His Only Begotten Son should endure in our place a most cruel and humiliating and vile crucifixion at the hands of His own creatures so that our debt would be satisfied and we would be reconciled to Himself? Who can imagine the Father s love for us as He gazed from heaven upon our travesty of justice as vile, 1

blasphemous mouths and cruel, wicked hands wreaked the vengeance of hell upon the pure, innocent Body of the Holy One of God, condemned and tortured and killed in a method of death reserved for the most evil and criminal of men? Only help from heaven could have sustained the Divine Humanity through the enormity of humiliation and hatred and suffering that sums up Jesus Passion which we have just celebrated, along with His Resurrection and that great gift of Mercy Sunday. Oh that we might gather every drop of that Precious Blood poured out for us into the chalice of our offering on the altars of our hearts and of our churches and surrender our lives with His to the Father to atone for our sins and the sins of the whole world. As St. Augustine says, The God who created us without our consent cannot save us without our consent! We must participate in our own redemption by uniting our wills, our lives, our sufferings with that of the Redeemer. Our Lady of America clearly stated to Sister Mildred in 1958 that Suffering completed the work of divine grace in my soul. Our Sacrament of Baptism thrusts us into the mystery of Christ s death so that we might know the fruit of that death, resurrection. Here is the first covenant God made with His people, the Incarnation of the Sacred Humanity and the Eternal Plan of Salvation, that whole economy of redemptive grace. O happy fault that merited so great a Redeemer! We may have heard the modern day parable that so inadequately tries to help us comprehend just what it was Jesus did for us. We are told to picture ourselves choosing to become an ant in order to save the ant kingdom from total self destruction, only to be rejected by the ants upon our arrival there and to be killed by those ungrateful inferior creatures. Surely we cannot fathom such an utterly humiliating and unthinkable gesture! There is no comparison possible to understand the condescension from divinity to humanity, the crucifixion of the All Holy One in Whom all things were created by His own creatures. If the descent of one creature into another level of created life were possible, it would be insignificant in comparison to that of the Uncreated into the created. There are people who try to minimize the infinite quality of God s merciful love by glibly stating that many people suffered crucifixion, as though the crucifixion of Jesus was no different. An artist recently depicted a naked person upon a cross to make a political statement about human injustice. Is this artistic license or distasteful blasphemy, desecration of our most holy image? Since Christ s crucifixion, His Body upon that redeeming cross is so sacred and so singularly beyond our comprehension that no man dare claim the right to mock its eternally divine meaning that defies all human understanding, nor fall sway to contemporary movements that attempt to remove Jesus from His cross, even on Good Friday, the very day He endured that ignominy for our salvation. It is the day and the means of His victory for us! It is precisely what Good Friday is all about. In Old Testament times when victors wished to give the ultimate humiliation to the fallen heroes of enemy forces, they often 2

nailed the body of those leaders, stripped of any human dignity, to the outer wooden gates around the city to be sneered at, desecrated and defamed even in death. Was not Jesus, the true arch enemy of Satan, nailed by those demonic infested forces, to the wood of the tree outside the walls of Jerusalem, only to become the gate into heaven, the new Jerusalem? Were we not there in the burden of all sin, from the beginning to the end of time, that became as a hammer nailing Jesus to that cross as surely as the soldiers did? Surely the crucifix must be the most sacred of all signs for all Christians! While the Son of God knew in His divine person the full extent of His Passion and Death in His Sacred Humanity, and the even greater torture of knowing so many souls would be lost forever in spite of His terrible suffering, He embraced the Father s Will and kissed that cross, letting Himself be nailed to it in order to save anyone who would accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior! How can we do less than kiss that cross with Him on it, and venerate the wood of the cross on which hung our Savior, on the memorial day of His death? And every day! O the breadth, the depth and the height of His love! How can we not lose ourselves in such mystery! Such mercy! Such grace! While Jesus has died for our sins with His perfect Sacrifice of atonement and fellowship and peace offering, we are still free, free as God made us to be, to reject or accept the merit of Christ s redemption so it might be efficacious for our souls and our salvation. Hear the words of Jesus to Sister Mildred: The Voice of My Heart is the Voice of Mercy. If man will not listen, there is no more I can do for he ties My hands. My Heart beats with compassion for the sorrows of man. Oh, how gladly would I help him bear the weight of his terrible cross, fashioned, for the most part, by his own guilt! But alas, he will have none of My help. So I am forced to stand by the side of the road and watch him struggle hopelessly in his agony. O man, what have I done to you that you should refuse My aid? Return, My people, for My Heart hungers and thirsts for your love. If you will not return, the just anger of My Father will descend upon you. What would you My Love or My Father s anger? Choose, and as you choose, so shall it be done. I will not force your free will, for that is yours to use as you desire. (Diary, pg. 7.) My Heart is a refuge for all sinners. If only they would come to Me, I would enclose them in My Heart. There they would be cleansed and My Father s anger would not reach them. Alas, bride of My Heart, alas for those who will not come to Me. Where will they hide from My Father s anger? (Letter from Sister Mildred to her spiritual director, Father Paul F. Leibold, February 22, 1954.) 3

The message of Our Lady of America is a Mother s cry, a prophetic warning and plea from heaven to heed the voice of that Infinite Mercy calling us today, as with the prophets in days past, to a reform of life never before so necessary and so urgent. Our glorification of human reason, science and the human will has brought us to the brink of our own self destruction through the rape of the earth s resources, the stockpile of nuclear weapons in a struggle for power, the greed and hatred that might impel a modern day Herod or Pilate to condemn the world to endless war and massacre of the innocents, oppression of the poor, and to total alienation and annihilation. Is this not the wickedness that would make all the world an abyss of evil, without God and without your loving maternal care? (Words to Mary in the Prayer to the Immaculate Conception. ) God s infinite justice is offended by our disregard and ingratitude for so great a love made manifest in Jesus Who endured so much suffering so we might learn from Him how to love and to forgive, so that life itself and the human family might survive in a more just society, in a culture of life and a civilization of love where the blessings of the earth are gifts to enjoy and to share. During the Easter liturgy we are asked to renew our baptismal vows, to renounce Satan and his allurements, his falsehoods and his self-worshipping ways, and to confirm our belief in Jesus and in the ways of God He outlined for us with the example of His own life, His commandments, His Gospel, His beatitudes and that great law of love of God and neighbor. On May 29, 1954, Our Lord spoke these words to Sister Mildred: My little white dove [Jesus endearing name for Sister Mildred], if the world is dying, it is because it will not let Me give it life. I am the resurrection and the life, and unless souls seek their life in Me, they will find only death and destruction. They fear man-made destroyers of life, yet destruction is in themselves. Man destroys himself through the evil that is in himself. Implements of war kill only that which is without. Man kills that within himself which none but he can kill. God is light, man is darkness, and unless he comes into the light, he will be forever darkness. My little white dove, do you know what I find most lacking in the world today? It is FAITH. There are so few souls that believe in Me and My love. They profess their belief and their love, but they do not live this belief. Their hearts are cold, for without faith there can be no love. Pray and sacrifice yourself, My child, that faith may once again find entrance into the hearts of men. (Diary, pgs 4-5.) In the temptations Jesus endured at the hands of Satan when He was sent by the Spirit into the desert prior to His public ministry, we hear Satan s empty promises as he pretends to give what is not his and to seduce us with the powers and ways of the world, the temporal values and riches that are exactly that, temporal and fleeting, and to tempt us to seek our own will instead of God s. Satan preys upon the mind with 4

falsehood and twists of truth to deceive and trick us, for the will is made to choose the good, the true and the beautiful, and only when the mind deceives the will and presents evil as good does our will embrace the lie of Satan and the evil and darkness that are commensurate with him. With the death of Jesus his closest followers came face to face with their own sins and weakness. They had not understood the truth; they had rejected Jesus and ran away from Him in His hour of greatest need. Satan, the accuser, who deceived Judas with the fleeting power of money and fame and that false understanding of the Messiah, then tormented Judas with accusations of failure and betrayal, and especially with lies about Jesus true nature, leading Judas to lose hope in Jesus forgiveness until he hanged himself in despair. Oh how attractive Satan makes sin appear until he has trapped us in its ugly net of intrigue that weaves one evil into another; then he torments us with guilt over our own actions. Peter, the bold one who proclaimed he would never deny Jesus, like Satan, had previously tried to sway Jesus from the Father s Will for His Passion, so much so that Jesus said to Peter, Get behind me, Satan! This same Peter is convicted of his sins in the depths of his heart as he confronts his denial of Jesus, and through the power of the Holy Spirit, is brought to tears and repentance and conversion, and through that same Holy Spirit is led to trust in the truth of Jesus divine forgiveness. There is no sin Jesus will not forgive if we only ask Him to. Peter then goes on to witness and die for Christ, even to death on a cross upside down, as he considered himself unworthy because of his denial of Jesus, to die the same way Jesus had died. The accuser convinces Judas he is not worthy of forgiveness and leads him to despair. The spirit convicts Peter of his sin and even more of the truth of Jesus infinite mercy and forgiveness and leads him to martyrdom in the end. We hear that divine mercy spoken so eloquently to Dismas, the good thief, as he died on the cross next to Jesus and asked Jesus to remember him when he comes into His kingdom, for he, too, was convicted of his sins and recognized them, but also recognized the sinlessness of Jesus, the injustice of His death and the greater divinity and authority of His Person. Satan is proud and ostentatious. The Spirit is as gentle as a breeze working deep within the soul to expose it to the truth that sets it free. Oh that we might always echo Dismas humble words to our dear Savior Jesus, remember me when You come into your kingdom! and hear our Lord say back to us This day you will be with Me in Paradise! The necessary reform of life Our Lord and Our Lady ask for is the work of the Spirit who penetrates every crack and crevice within our souls and sweeps away every demonic spirit who has stolen its way into our unlocked doors. Our Lady of America gives us her wisdom regarding her divine Spouse, the Holy Spirit. 5

Beloved daughter, there is so much untruth in the truth that is sought. Truth comes from Him who has been sent by my Son, the Spirit who is Truth. Pray continuously to be guided by this Spirit who is the true enlightenment. Many are those who seek truth from spirits who are false and lead only to a greater ignorance and a worse destruction. The Divine Spirit abides in my Son Jesus and is sent by Him. All other spirits are only true in Him, the Third Person of the Holy Trinity. Beware of any spirit which does not abide in the Holy Spirit and does not receive power and light from Him. Meditate on this often, dear child, so that only the Spirit of Truth may abide in you and be the light of your journey to the Father. (Diary, pgs. 43-44.) Throughout the years of 1981 and 1982 Our Lady expresses her concern and her sorrow that we still are not listening to her many years of pleading for a reform of life. She says: O my children, you still aren t listening. I see the destruction coming but you do not believe me. You can stem this tide of suffering if you at last do as I ve been asking of you for so long. Renew your hearts, your spirits, by seeking and following the light of the Holy Spirit within yourselves and in the teachings of Holy Church. The Divine Spirit is there but you are continuing in your blindness and so blotting out the Divine Light and closing your ears to eternal truth. I beg of you to heed my voice or there will be no more time for you to turn back the Divine Wrath. I weep for you because I love you and wish, my dear children, to spare you this terrible suffering. Listen and pity your Mother. (Diary, pgs. 44-45.) Back in the 1980 s Sister Mildred asked Our Lady if there would be a nuclear war. Our Lady said that to prevent the holocaust so fast approaching there must be more good in the world than evil. Our Lady also said that if such a disaster should happen, there would be a remnant who would be untouched by the chaos because of their faithfulness to her in spreading her warnings who would gradually inhabit the earth again with their holy lives. These will renew the earth in the power and light of the Holy Spirit. These faithful ones of my children will be under my protection and that of the Holy Angels, and they will partake of the life of the Divine Trinity in a most remarkable way. Let my dear children know this, precious daughter, so that they will have no excuse if they fail to heed my warnings. (Diary, pg. 45.) 6

Spiritual warnings of pending danger and destruction are acts of God s mercy toward us. Scripture also speaks of chastisements as acts of His mercy when it says God chastises those whom He loves. Why? Because He desires our repentance and conversion and salvation! Surely we have seen plenty of these chastisements here in the United State alone in the last 20 years: the Columbine shootings, embassy bombings, the Oklahoma City bombing, floods and hurricanes of unprecedented numbers and proportions, Katrina, 9/11, the Virginia Tech shootings, and now the economic crisis. Our Nation has turned away from its God. Unless it turns back to Him and acknowledges Him as the Supreme Authority over us, how dare we presume to sing, God Bless America! Let us pray then for a Pentecost upon this land greater than that first Pentecost experienced by the disciples in the Upper Room. Let us beg the Holy Spirit to pierce our hearts and our minds with the Sword of Divine Truth, filling them with the Light of Christ that can heal our enduring spiritual blindness. May that same Holy Spirit lay open our hearts with the Sword of Divine Love, exposing them to the intense fire of God s Love, so hot as to melt the steel-cold hardness that lies within them, causing them to drip with sorrow as we cry out for the cooling rain of His Mercy to fall upon us. As the Jews of old called down the Blood of Jesus upon themselves and their children in their hate and their condemnation of Him, so now let us call down that same Blood of Jesus upon ourselves and our children in love and longing for our salvation. May that Saving Blood cover us all like a shield of protection against the powers of darkness, just as the blood of the lamb was a protection for the children of Israel that first dark Passover night. Let the quiet, gentle breeze of the Spirit, moving as He wills, swell into a raging wind to tear away every falsehood from our minds and to strip away every sin that we hold on to and to pound out of our flesh every lust and passion that turns us away from our God. Let that Spirit dig deep into the depths of our being and awaken our dead consciences and raise them into action defending all that is truly of God and standing against all that is NOT of God. Oh let us die a thousand deaths so that we might be reborn. Come, Holy Spirit, and create in us a clean heart, a pure heart, so that we might see God and live! Live in His own Heart! Conversion is always an interior movement that manifests itself as some kind of miracle of the soul that gives glory to God. Our Lady of America expresses her deep concern for the interior life of our souls and promises great miracles, not of the body but of the soul, especially to her children in America if we would listen to her pleadings and come to her Immaculate Heart to learn the purity of heart so pleasing to her Divine Son. How like the words of Cardinal Mercier in A Secret of Sanctity are Mary s words to us on the secret of the Divine Indwelling of the Most Holy Trinity as the source of all holiness. 7

A Secret of Sanctity I am going to reveal to you a secret of sanctity and happiness. If every day during five minutes, you will keep your imagination quiet, shut your eyes to all the things of sense, and close your ears to all the sounds of earth, so as to be able to withdraw into the sanctuary of your baptized soul, which is the temple of the Holy Spirit, speaking there to that Holy Spirit saying: O Holy Spirit, soul of my soul, I adore You. Enlighten, guide, strengthen and console me. Tell me what I ought to do and command me to do it. I promise to be submissive in everything that You permit to happen to me, only show me what is Your will. If you do this, your life will pass happily and serenely. Consolation will abound even in the midst of troubles. Grace will be given in proportion to the trial as well as strength to bear it, bringing you to the gates of Paradise full of merit. This submission to the Holy Spirit is the Secret of Sanctity. (Cardinal Mercier.) Does this not sound like the Secret of Secrets St. Joseph revealed to Sister Mildred as the awesome mystery of the Divine Indwelling of the Most Holy Trinity in the tabernacles of our souls? St. Joseph declared it was a mystery that could not be taught but could only be revealed by the Holy Spirit! Then come, Holy Spirit, come! Reveal the Secret of Secrets to us and sanctify us!
