Open your Bible to Matthew 6:5-13 and show the children the words. LL: Welcome everyone! Today we are going to talk about how we can talk to God. First, let s say good morning to Theo. Hi, Theo. What is that you have with you toady? Theo: Good morning, everyone. I have my mom s cell phone. She is letting me borrow it. Bible Bookmarked to Matthew 6:5-13 * Curriculum CD (Spring 2011) Track26 *Theo Puppet * Play phone for Theo to hold LL: A phone? Who are you calling, Theo? Theo: I heard you say that we can talk to God. Do you have his number handy? I would sure like to give him a call and talk to him, too. LL: You want to call God on the telephone? But Theo, you don t have to use a phone to talk to God. If you want to talk to God, all you have to do is pray. Theo: Oh really? Bring Theo up to your ear and pretend that he is telling you a secret. LL: Oh, I see. Friends, Theo says he don t know what to talk to God about. One thing I love to pray about is being thankful for God and his Son, Jus. Our key verse this month says, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believ in him shall not perish, but have eternal life. That means that God loved us so much that he let his only Sin, Jus, die for our sins. Because of that, we can live with God in heaven forever. Isn t that amazing. I love to thank God for that when I cannot think of anything to pray for. Theo: That s a great idea! I am going to talk to God today and thank him for sending his Son, Jus! Well, I gus I don t need this phone anymore. LL: Right, Theo. Today s Bible story tells us even more about talking to God. Let s listen to what Jus said about how to pray. Play track 26 on Curriculum CD. Listen carefully so you can pause the CD and practice praying when Jus says, Go ahead and try that. LL: Let s finish our prayers by saying, In Jus name, amen. Pause while the children finish.
LL: Jus said that when we pray, we can praise and thank God. We can ask God for what we need. We can tell God we re sorry. And we can ask for God s help. Now you will all go back to your class and do some activiti to remind you of our Bible story. Theo: Bye! Let the kids say goodbye to Theo and then dismiss class one at a time to go back to their rooms. Circle Time 10-15 min Circle Time: Key Verse Activity Have the children form a circle and sit down. Open your Bible to John 3:16 Bible: Bookmarked to John 3:16 Lead the children in singing The B- I- B- L- E. This will be sung each week right before the Key Verse activity. LL: Our Key Verse from the Bible says, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believ in him shall not perish but have eternal life. This means that God loved the world and us so much that he gave his Son, Jus, so we can live forever in heaven. Let s say the verse together. Lead the children in repeating the verse. Let s do a chant together to help us remember this verse. Help children form a line (they can put their hands on the shoulder of the child in front of them if it is easier). Lead the children in marching around the classroom in a line. As you march, chant the key verse (like the military cadence) below and have the children repeat. LL: For God so loved the world

He gave us Jus! No matter where we are or what we are doing, we can always pray and talk to God. Center 20 Minut Center: Prayer baskets Before class, cut one of the paper plat in half and staple it to the whole paper plate, making a basket for each child. Print at the bottom of each half "I will pray". Jus taught us that we can pray and talk to God. Jus taught us to tell God we love him. Jus also taught us to tell God what we need. We can pray for our family and friends also. Let s make baskets that we can fill with all of the people we want to talk to God about! Give each child a few small piec of colored paper or index cards. Help the child to print on each card the name of someone they can pray for (they may also draw people if they are uncomfortable writing). Hand them each a prayer basket that you made before class. Allow them to decorate the prayer reminder basket with markers/crayons and then place the cards inside. Tell them that they can hand it in a special place when they get home. Materials 2 paper plat per child *Stapler 4-5 colored index cards per child (or construction paper cut to the size of index cards) Snack *Can be a center if you prefer 10 minut Snack Prepare the snack for the children. Take time to stop and pray before the children eat. This is also a good time to ask children if they need to go to the rtroom. Graham Crackers Water/Cups Paper

God will always listen! Let s pray together. Dear God, Thank you for sending your Son, Jus so that I can live forever in heaven. Thank you for hearing our prayers. We love you. Amen.
