Talk About the Bible Story Page ETC 15 Say "God wants us to love one another and get along with others" Open your Bible to Genesis 13. Say: Listen to find out why Abram and Lot's helpers were arguing. Pray Say: God, help me choose to get along with others even when I don t want to. Play in the Bible Learning Activities Supplies provided: An Abram and Lot coloring sheet, construction paper. Art Center: Complete the picture- Abram and Lot. o Give each child an Abram and Lot coloring. o Provide each table with sheets of green, blue and brown construction paper. o Encourage the boys and girls to tear small pieces of construction paper to and glue them on the color sheet to complete the picture. o Ask "Why was grass so important? What animals eat grass?" Make a tent scene Provide half-page rectangle shapes of construction paper for each child; scraps of various sizes in brown, blue, and red; scissors; crayons; and markers. Tell each child to fold the rectangle in half, decorate it, and stand it up to make a tent. Use scraps of brown and red for making campfires and scraps of blue for water. Suggest drawing small animals and people to complete the scene. Retell the Bible story. Remind them that the people worked together to take care of the animals and get along together. Give each child a small cup and direct each child to attach the verse to their cup. Assist the class in filling their cups about 1/2 full with soil, then lightly water the soil. Sprinkle a small amount of seeds on top of the soil. Encourage the class to take their cups home and place them in a window sill at home. 3 Cleanup Say: One right choice we can make is to help clean up. I am watching to see who will make a right choice. 4 Group Time Tell the Bible Story- Page 37 Open your Bible to Genesis 13 and say "God wants us to be kind and get along with others. Let's see what happened when Abram and Lot were in an argument and if they solved the problem." Say a Bible Verse: Open your Bible to Ephesians 4:32. Say: Be kind and care for one another. Guide the children to repeat the verse after you several times. Ask "Who should we be kind to and who should we care for?" 5--Pray Lead the class in a prayer asking God to help us to be kind to others and work out our problems like Abram and Lot did. 6- Whisper Bible books Sit in a circle. Say: I will whisper the name of the first book of the Bible in your ear. Do not say it aloud. Whisper it in the ear of the person next to you; he will then whisper it to the person next to him and so on around the circle. The last person will say what he heard aloud. I will say the original word for comparison. Emphasize that as the children worked together in the game, they chose to get along with each other. Repeat the game with a different book of the Bible such as Ephesians (since today s Bible verse comes from Ephesians). 7 Dismiss Greet parents and thank them for bringing their child to church. Bible Verse: Obey God. Deuteronomy 6:17 Item 7: Teaching Picture Daniel Item 14a-d: Bible Word Cards: choose, vegetables Item 28: Vegetable puzzles Sing together- To the tune Three Blind Mice, sing: I can choose. I can choose, To obey, To obey. I can choose to obey our God. (Repeat.) I can choose. I can choose. Talk About the Bible Story Page ETC 17 Open your Bible to Daniel 1. Say: Daniel and his friends chose to obey God rather than the king. Think about why obeying God is always a good choice. Pray Pray: Dear God, please help us choose to do what You have told us in the Bible to do. Play in the Bible Learning Activities Supplies provided: Carrot patterns, green yarn. Art Center: Carrot Bookmark. Assist the class in cutting out carrot shapes from the orange paper provided. Punch a hole in the top of the carrot and tie a green piece of yarn through the hole. Show the class how they can separate the ends of the yarn to make the carrot top appear more natural. Act out the Bible Story Assign parts: King Nebuchadnezzar, one of his helpers, the guard, Daniel, his three friends, other young men in training. Tell the story as they play it out. Remind them that Daniel and his friends were healthier than the other boys because they chose to obey God. Dismiss Collect each child s craft and Kindergarten Connection weekly page. As children leave with their parents, give them their materials and remind them to practice obeying this week at home.

Clean up where you have been playing. Walk around and thank children as they clean. 4 Group Time Tell the Bible Story- Page 37 Open your Bible to Daniel and say "Daniel and his friends had to make a choice. They could chose to obey God or obey a king. Let's find out who they choose to obey" Say a Bible Verse: Point in your Bible to the Bible verse. Say: Obey God. Ask: Why is it always best for us to obey God? 5--Pray Lead the class in a prayer asking God to help us to always chose to obey Him, just like Daniel and his friends did. 6- Play a Guessing Game Describe vegetables for the kindergartners to guess such as these: orange root that grows underground (carrot); white root that makes people cry (onion); green bunch of big leaves (lettuce); green and looks like a tree (broccoli). You could also describe meat, bread, fruit, and dairy products. 7 Dismiss Greet parents and thank them for bringing their child to church. Say "Today we learned that we should always obey God"

Play in the Bible Learning Activities Supplies provided: A David and Jonathan coloring page, water-colors, brushes Art Center: Paint David and Jonathan. o Give each child a coloring page and a brush. o Distribute water-color paints among the children, provide each table with cups of water. o Encourage the children to paint the picture, working to stay in the lines and use appropriate colors for each part. Play with Friends Arrange the children in one or two lines, standing side by side. Give the first child in line a beanbag to be passed to the end of the line and back in some manner, such as between his legs, over his head, around his side, or around his foot. Then he can go to the end of the line and let the next person begin a way to pass. Say: Friends love each other and enjoy playing together. Give each child a tracing sheet and place markers or crayons at each table. Encourage each child to trace today s verse. Ask the class, Are there some times when it's hard to love your friends? What about when your friends are mean or they hurt your feelings? The Bible tells us to love our friends all the time." 3 Cleanup Sing to the tune Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush : Friends help one another clean, another clean, another clean. Friends help one another clean. A friend loves at all times. 4 Group Time Tell the Bible Story- Page 45 Open your Bible to 1 Samuel and say "A friend loves at all times. Let's see how two friends showed love for one another." Say a Bible Verse: Open your Bible to Proverbs 17:17. Say: A friend loves at all times. Ask: Is it always easy to love our friends? (no) Stress that we sometimes have to choose to be a loving friend. 5--Pray Ask for a volunteer to pray to God, thanking Him for friends. 6- Play a Mirroring Game Pair the children off and say: One of you pretend to be a full-length mirror. The other one pretend to be looking into the mirror. The mirror must copy what the person looking into it does. For example: smile, frown, wiggle your fingers, stick out your tongue, wiggle your eyebrows, put your arms up, or make a funny face. After a few minutes, swap parts and play again. 7 Dismiss Thank each parent for bringing their child to church and invite them to come back to church again next weekend.

Pray Say: Remember to ask God to help us be kind and helpful to others. Ask for volunteers to pray. Play in the Bible Learning Activities Supplies provided: The Good Samaritan coloring page, water-colors, brushes Art Center: Paint The Good Samaritan. o Give each child a coloring page and a brush. o Distribute water-color paints among the children, provide each table with cups of water. o While the children are painting ask them questions about today's story: "Was is kind or unkind that the men beat up the man in the story? Was it kind for the people to pass the hurt man and not help him? Who was the person who did something kind to the man who was hurt? Play: Kind or Unkind? Use yarn to form two large circles on the floor. Place a kind face picture in one and a mean face in the other. Tell the children to take turns tossing beanbags into the circles. If their beanbag lands in the kind circle, they name one way they can show kindness to others. If the beanbag lands in the unkind circle, they name an action that would be unkind. Give each child a piece of construction paper and three house diecuts. Encourage each child to use the die-cuts along with crayons/markers to create a picture of their neighborhood. Ask the class, Do you have to live near someone to share God's love with them? Jesus tells us to go and show God's love with everyone!" 3 Cleanup As you and the kindergartners clean up, sing (tune The Farmer in the Dell ): It s time to clean up now. It s time to clean up now. We ll make the room look neat and clean. It s time to clean up now. 4 Group Time Tell the Bible Story- Page 49 Open your Bible to Luke and say "Jesus and a man were talking about God s law. The law said to love God and love your neighbor. The man asked, 'Who is my neighbor?', let's find out Jesus' answer." Say a Bible Verse: Open your Bible to Proverbs 17:17. Say: A friend loves at all times. Ask: Is it always easy to love our friends? (no) Stress that we sometimes have to choose to be a loving friend. 5--Pray Ask for a volunteer to pray asking God to help each person in the class to chose to do what is good. 6- Play a Guessing Game Place five small items from the classroom on the floor. They could be distinctly different or the same thing in different colors, such as crayons. Identify the items. Cover them with a towel or doll blanket. Remove the covering, hiding one of the items in the folds of the cover. Let the boys and girls guess what is missing. After a few turns, begin giving each child a turn at being the leader. They may want to swap items for new ones to guess. 7 Dismiss Give children their friendship gifts and this week s Kindergarten Connection page as they leave.
