Volume XXIII Issue 2 February 2017 10-20 - 30 VISION I could only imagine the frustration of the Israelites as they roamed the wilderness for 40 years. I wonder how often Moses was asked, Do you know where we are going? Like children in the back seat of a station wagon, they likely whined: When will we get there? Now we know the children were prevented by God from entering the Promised Land due to their grumbling and complaining, and we can certainly all understand their frustrations. We all want to know where we are heading. Proverbs 29:18 tells us Where there is no vision the people perish. A vision gives us direction, purpose and motivation. A couple of weeks past, I shared a vision with our church s Mission Committee. I dubbed it our 10-20 - 30 Vision. I proposed to them that by the end of the year 2020 we send 30 members of Baptist Chapel into 10 different nations carrying the gospel (I know the numbers you just read are not in the 10, 20, 30 order, but it is explained better this way). The committee were excited and embraced this and in our January business meeting our church voted to adopt it as our mission s vision. However, knowing where we are going and getting there are two different things. This will not just happen, but by God s grace and leading I believe we will accomplish this goal. To do so, we need, not only to accept this vision, but also to embrace it. Missions don t just happen. It will take continuous prayer and lots of resources. First it will take no less than 30 individuals who are willing to answer, Isaiah 6:8 just as Isaiah did - Here am I Lord. Send me. Before you think that you are not able, please remember that neither Moses, Joshua, Isaiah nor Paul were able, but they were available. That is the question that must be answered. Are we available to God? Are we available to respond to His Son s commission? Secondly, we must acknowledge that we are not exempt from the great commission. We are expected to Go. Whether it is across the street or around the world we have been sent by Christ. To be negligent is to be disobedient. I am rejoicing that we are already prepared to begin counting off these numbers. Hughie Wrench has committed to go with Wells of Living Water to Peru in just a few weeks. Seven others have already made a commitment to go this August to Puerto Escondido, Mexico to help prepare the school for their coming school year. (This is where Jason Faircloth serves). Global Educational Ministries (GEM) has asked Baptist Chapel to send a team of ten to twelve people for this trip, so we have some openings. Are you available? To fulfill this vision of ten nations, we may need to link up with other churches, organizations and associations. If you hear of a planned trip that has an opening, someone in our church may be available, let me know so that we might pass the word. If God has laid on your heart a particular nation let me know that we may pray and seek a path to get you where God wants you. Being where God wants us, and doing what God has for us will open up greater blessings for all of us at the Chapel. Pastor Joey 1 February 2017
PIANO NEEDS A GOOD HOME WMU NEWS The Senior Adult Luncheon will be February 12, 2017 immediately after the 11:00 service. A sign up sheet is on the Sunday School office glass window for our younger members to sign up to bring their favorite sides and a dessert. Please join us for lunch in honoring our Senior Adults for all they have done for Baptist Chapel. 2017 Women's Sunday will be February 19th. Ladies of the church are invited for breakfast provided by the BYW. Then join us as women lead Baptist Chapel morning service! Thank you to everyone that contributed to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering this year. What a blessing it was to go from not meeting our goal last year to exceeding it this year! A total of $10,813.83 sent from Baptist Chapel to help support foreign missions! The Baptist Chapel Music Department would like to find a good home for a Wurlitzer Spinet piano that is currently located in the GIFTED classroom. This piano was the sanctuary piano in the previous church and played by Mrs. Hesbie Hall for many years. The serial number on the piano (390041) dates it to between 1945-50. The condition is probably average for it's age. It has spent the past 35 years in the Children's department where it has had the opportunity to inspire many children and adults alike. Its music desk needs some minor repair, but the piano seems to hold a decent tune and appears to have been last tuned in 2005. Please contact Kevin, Craig or Johnnie for more information. Visit www.baptistchapel.com/piano for photos! The old projector that was replaced is available to any church member. If you are interested, please see Kevin Jackson for more information.
