Page 2 THE W ORD Volum e 49 Issue 1 Happy New Year Westville UMC Family! Here s to New Beginnings as we leave 2017 behind us and move forward to God s amazing plans for us as Westville United Methodist Church. Before we move forward, I want to take a moment and thank each one of you for your generosity, your warm spirit, your thoughtfulness, and your presence. Our time at Westville UMC has been so amazing. My family and I are truly blessed by all of you! I am thrilled that we get to celebrate our 150 th Anniversary as Westville UMC this year. As we have been digging through the archives, it is wonderful to learn about the history of this church. On a side note: does anyone have any clue as to where we will find the time capsule?? As our committee meets, we will share more of what we are planning for our celebration. As we move forward, I pray that we follow God s guidance and direction for us at all times. I pray that nothing distracts us from our focus of what God has planned for us in this coming year and beyond. I pray that we grow as disciples of Jesus Christ, so that we are able to fulfill our mission: To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. As United Methodists, our founder, John Wesley, believed in Class Meetings. These Class Meetings were basically small groups that met often to hold one another accountable, share their faith and their pursuit of God, pray together, and so on. For many years now, I have wanted to follow this same model with small groups. I have prayed about this and I have put together my own Class Meeting. There are five individuals in this group: David McKee, Greg McCuen, Jan Buchanan, Missy Buehrer, and myself. We will meet every Thursday morning. We will start on January 11 th. Our group is called Growing in Grace. This will be a huge commitment, but it will definitely help us grow as Disciples of Jesus Christ, along with moving us out of our comfort zone. As we move forward with our group, we would like to eventually branch out and start more Class Meeting groups. So, I invite you to pray about this. We will keep you updated on our progress and when the time is right, we will start other small groups that will follow this format. If you have any questions, please feel free to talk to myself or any other member of Growing in Grace. Hebrews 10:24 25, And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Blessings to you and yours, Pastor Cathy Allison
