Good at Faith Romans 8:28-30 If you are good at what you do for a living, you know the joy of being the right person for the right job. Sometimes we grow into the task we have been given. Other times it seems as though we have been predestined for it all along. Somehow the skills we possess and the experiences we have had all led up to the person we are and the job we do. Throughout our lives we get better at being Christian. We develop skills for prayer, love, service, and understanding. We use them to please God and build up the community. We also experience the joys and depths of the spiritual life. Life s successes and losses have refined our image of God and the church, making us more mature in faith. St. Paul tells the Romans that God knew them long ago and predestined them to be conformed to the Son s image, so that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. In God we are predestined, called, justified, and glorified. God knew us from the beginning, called us into service, justified us for salvation, and glorified us in eternal life. As we journey through life, we realize that God knew some things about us long before we did. God knew what tools we would need for the place and time we live. We have hope that God is still working with us and will help us with whatever challenges lie ahead. The reward of glory awaits those who are good at the task of faith. Written by Paul Turner. Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 3 July 27, 2014 Financial Activities THIS WEEK IN OUR PARISH July 27, 2014-August 3, 2014 STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purposes. Romans 8:28 Do you really trust God? Do you believe that all things work for good? Faith is a challenge for everyone at times. Putting our trust in God, in everything we do, means that God s plan for our lives may be different than our plan. When one door closes, another one opens. Trust in God, His plan is always better. Along with the usual summer cleaning, a number of projects have begun this past week. In the school the last of the classroom and hallway ceilings are being updated with new drop ceilings and lighting. In addition, the lighting fixtures throughout are now upgraded with the latest energy saving bulbs. Painting has begun on the Church and school exteriors and shortly thereafter, the parking lots will be sealed and restriped. The phase two technology upgrade is in the works and will be completed prior to the start of fall classes. Many of you are wondering when the bathroom will be installed. We are still working on doing so as soon as possible. Unfortunately, as you well know, there have been delays. Please be patient, we are as anxious as you are to flush this project out and put it on the completed list. Parish Office closed Wednesday, July 30 during the day. Office will be open evening hours 6-9 PM Eucharistic Adoration A Holy Hour will give you more strength during life and more consolation at the hour of your death and eternity. St. Alphonsus Ligouri That we learn to put our trust in God in everything we do. Relay For Life Friday, August 1, 10:00 AM - Saturday, August 2,10:00 AM Friday, August 1,-Saturday, August 2. There will be activities for the kids, a silent auction, moving speakers and the most special event of all: the Luminaria Ceremony. This part of Relay takes part after dark. The track lights are turned off, and all participants walk the track, lit by luminaries in honor of those taken and those who have fought. It s pretty awesome to witness. Please join us

ST. PATRICK CHURCH Page 4 PORTLAND, MICHIGAN St. Patrick-Portland Children s Faith Formation Family Creating Community When it comes to Church, Community is the official word for Family.
