Matthew 11:28, Come unto me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. To all who sin and need a Savior, to all who are burdened and need rest, to all who sorrow and long for comfort, to all who struggle and seek victory, to all who hunger and thirst after righteousness, and to whosoever will come, Providence Presbyterian Church opens wide her doors and offers The Preparation For Worship welcome in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Prelude and Silent Prayer Welcome and Announcements Choral Introit (Please pass registration pad after signing) Mrs. Janet Taylor Elder Bill Pleasant Choir The Adoration Of God *Call to Worship Psalm 90 Rev. Michael Cannon Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen trouble. May your deeds be shown to your servants, your splendor to their children. The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Let us worship God! *Prayer of Adoration and Lord s Prayer *Hymn of Praise God of Our Fathers No. 710 *Nicene Creed
The Adoration Of God continued *Gloria Patri No. 735 Confession Of Our Need Of Christ And God s Grace Corporate Confession of Sin Almighty Father, God of gods and Lord of lords, Father to the fatherless, husband to the widow, defender of the helpless, judge of all the earth, have mercy on us. It is your will that we should love you with heart, soul, mind, strength, and our neighbor as ourselves, but we are not sufficient for these things. We confess that our affections continually turn away from you; from purity to lust, from freedom to slavery, from compassion to indifference. We have not sought freedom for the oppressed, even though you freed us. We have not bound up the broken even though you healed us. We have not forgiven others even though you forgave us. We withhold kindness from the needy even though you freely gave us your own Son. We are without excuse, but not without hope. By your power and grace, account our sins to Jesus sacrificial death and amend our ways by the power of his glorious resurrection. The Assurance of Pardon Proverbs 28:13 Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy. Hymn of Thanksgiving Come Ye Thankful People, Come No. 715 (Ushers come forward for offering)

McDonald For the beauty of the earth, for the glory of the skies, For the love which from our birth over and around us lies; Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise. For the wonder of each hour, of the day and of the night, Hill and vale and tree and flow r, sun and moon, and stars of light. Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise. For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child, Friends on earth and friends above, for all gentle thoughts and mild; Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn, this our hymn of praise! For the church that evermore lifteth holy hands above, Off ring up on every shore her pure sacrifice of love; Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise! Our hymn of praise! Our hymn of praise! The Means Of Grace Old Testament Scripture Reading 1 Samuel 6: 17-21 Page 229 New Testament Scripture Reading 1 Corinthians 7: 25-40 Page 956 Psalm Singing Psalm 139C Children (ages 4&5) leave for Children s Church God s perfect knowledge and the impossibility of escape from his presence form the theme of vv1-12. God s intimate knowledge goes back to the beginnings of the individual life, and even before that (v16), and terminate when I awake (v18), which, interestingly enough, the traditional Jewish interpreters saw as the morning of the resurrection. (The relevance of vv13-16 to the issue of abortion is evident.) The psalm closes (vv19-24) with the Psalmist so identifying himself with God and his holy cause that he burns with indignation against the godless, yet he welcomes God s scrutiny that he might not be deceived himself. In the Psalter we have the mind of Christ, and must identify ourselves with his desires. To draw back from the severity of his judgment would be to estrange ourselves from the tenderness of his selfsacrifice...we have to undergo the final judgement of Christ, and we have to consider the necessity of our own heart acceptance of his covenant. There must be in us a real love of God, involving the hatred of evil...we cannot treat the world as friends and be ourselves friends to Christ. (R.M.Benson)
