FRANCIS DE SALES My dear Confreres: Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year to you! Wi joy and hope, may I share wi you a message for Christmas and e New Year, Our Plans for e Year 2018, certain specifics to prepare for 20 General Chapter in 2019, and oer events in e Congregation. 1. O COME, LET US ADORE HIM, CHRIST, THE LORD! We are given a fresh chance at each Advent to discover our deepest hunger for God. Prophet Isaiah, known as e prophet of Advent, emphasizes e hunger and hopes of e people of Israel for a messiah roughout is liturgical season. Our longing for God is at e heart of e preparations for Christmas. Advent is a time to make space for Jesus to bir in our lives. The baby Jesus, we see in e manger, is silent, still, humble, poor, and hidden. He is hidden benea e appearance of e swaddling cloes at wrapped him. This attitude of hiddenness is important for us to discover our hunger wiin us for God. To discover our longing for God and to see him, who became human, requires of us to find time to widraw ourselves from e sight of people, go unnoticed, and hidden like Mary and Joseph. We need to widraw from all at solicits our attention, our energy, and our time into e hiddenness of baby Jesus in e manger. We need to grow in silence, stillness, humility, poverty, and in e virtue of hiddenness. Ultimately, all at satisfies our hearts' desires is to adore Him in e manger and to adore Him before His Eucharistic face in e sacred host every day. To adore Him, our Saviour, we need to be content to position ourselves where we are not seen, known, appreciated, or praised. He is a hidden God. Truly wi you God is hidden, e God of Israel, e Saviour (Is. 45:15).

O Come, let us adore Him, Christ, e Lord! We shall turn e year 2018 into a turning point in our lives by regularly seeking e Eucharistic face of Christ, hidden benea e appearance of e sacred host, in e tabernacle. We shall make e Holy Sacrifice of e Mass 'e sun of our existence' (SFS) and of our community life, illumining each day wi its brightness. 2. YEAR 2018 AS THE YEAR OF LOCAL COMMUNITY THEME:'REVITALISING MY LOCAL COMMUNITY: SPACEFOR COMMUNION ANDMISSION' Wi e consent of e General Council, I am glad to declare Year 2018 as e YEAR OF LOCAL COMMUNITY wi effect from January 24, 2018 rough January 23, 2019. Therefore, we have only e unpublished writings and manuscripts of Fr. Mermier. When we opened e cause for e first time in 1993, e writings were given to one well-known Redemptorist eologian Fr. Théodule Rey-Mermet. He died in 2002. However, he has given his report. Anoer eologian is yet to be assigned Prayer Cards for e Cause of Fr. Mermier have been printed and distributed in e Visitation Basilica, all e MSFS parishes and schools. All e writings of Fr. Mermier are being digitalized. We are in close contact wi Jöelle MERMIER, e fif generation niece of Fr. Mermier. She gaers from time to time some of e important historical documents related to Fr. Mermier. FOR OUR MEDITATION: St. Francis de Sales on Incarnation: Below is a very enlightening passage from St. Francis de Sales' Treatise on e Love of God where he teaches at e primary reason for e Incarnation was not e redemption of fallen man from sin, but at God willed e Incarnation first and foremost in order to communicate Himself to a creature in a most perfect way: in such sort at e creature might be engrafted and implanted in e divinity, and become one single person wi It. To is created nature, namely e Sacred Humanity of Christ, God destined at incomparable honor of personal union wi His Divine Majesty, to e end at for all eternity it might enjoy by excellence e treasures of His infinite glory. (TREATISE ON THE LOVE OF GOD Book II, Chapter IV) I bring you good news of great joy at will be for all people. Today in e town of David a Savior has been born to you. Lk 2: 10-11 Live Jesus! Fraternally in Christ, Faer Abraham Vettuvelil, MSFS Superior General 7
