PHONE: (972) 562-2601 Carl Ernest Johnson, Jr. May 12, 1958 - May 31, 2014 Carl Ernest Johnson, Jr., age 56 of Frisco, Texas passed away on May 31, 2014 in Frisco. Carl was born on May 12, 1958 in Buzzard s Bay, Massachusetts to Carl and Hope Johnson. He married Karen Margaret Day on September 15, 1979 in New Milford Connecticut. Karen and Carl were High School Sweethearts and moved to Texas in 1978. Carl loved music and was a drummer. He aspired to work in the music industry until he discovered his new love-graphic design. Carl worked as a Graphic Artist with JCPenney for over 20 years. There, he taught himself everything and worked hard to get where he is today. He was a mentor to many young aspiring artists, who moved on to continue their careers outside of JCPenney. He was a man with strong conservative values who believed in family and that good things come to those who work hard. These values are reflected in the choices his two daughters have made and will continue to make in their lives. The impact that Carl has made on so many people is reflected in the outpouring of support and love for his family. He was a great man, and will be missed more than he would ever know. He is survived and will be missed by his wife, Karen Johnson of Frisco, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, McKenna and Nick Fleury of McKinney, Texas; daughter, Haley Johnson of Frisco, Texas; grandson, Connor Fleury of McKinney, Texas; mother, Hope Johnson; two brothers and three sisters. The family will receive friends at a Visitation to be held from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Turrentine-Jackson- Morrow Funeral Home in Frisco. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at 4:00 PM with Pastor Justin Hillhouse officiating. As you might imagine, the number of people who have asked about contributing to Carl and his family has been quite significant as he has touched so many lives over his 25 year career at JCPenney. In an effort to provide a channel for donation, we have worked with the folks at Chase Bank to establish a "donation account" where funds earmarked for the education of Carl's children and grandson can be donated. There are multiple ways to give and we would like to present these options to any and all who chose to contribute.
Below please see the donation instructions for those interested. How to make a donation: An Education Fund has been established for McKenna, Haley and Conner, in honor of Carl's memory. The account is at Chase Bank (account # 3037464199). Donations can be made in the following manner: Go to any Chase Branch and make a deposit (check, money order or cashier check). Cash will not be accepted. If you're a Chase customer, you can simply transfer funds from your Chase account to the account noted above. Cash donations can be made to JCPenney's Chandra Turk (H2-172 and 972.431.3973). All cash donations will be tracked and provided to the Fund Manager for deposit. Memorials Carl, you are my cousin by my Mother and my Father, Rosemary and Walter Orlik. I would have loved to known you, and your whole family. You are in our prayers, god bless. ARLEEN R AND TONY VASQUEZ, JUNE 6, 2014 Carl was a wonderful person and will be missed by many. I started working with Carl at JCPenney Co. around 1989. We were is the same department for several years and had remained friends through Facebook where we had many spirited conversations about the Cowboys. He bled silver and blue. Carl, I will keep your family in my prayers dear friend and your spirit in my heart. DAVID HOWARD, JUNE 6, 2014 Carl always took my breath away not just with the work he did but the way in which he did it. A master Mac user and design guru, he could design something you didn t know could be done with a Mac and he made it appear so effortless. I always enjoyed going down to his dimly lit office to see him sitting at his desk, glasses on the way he would peak up over his screen was as if to say, you ll never guess what masterpiece I m creating now. Then you would step behind his desk and see what he was working on and just be amazed. Nothing ever seemed to rattle him he had a Zen-like quality about him calm in the face of chaos and deadlines. You would throw four, five, six
things at him about a project and he would calmly look at you, smile and say, Yup, it s done. Humble about his ability, he seemed quietly pleased when he knew someone was happy with the work he had done on their project. Sadly, Carl took my breath away with his passing I was shocked and saddened to hear he had left this world. We lost a kind soul and a wickedly talented human being. Our thoughts are with his family and his friends he has left behind. Knowing Carl, he s up there impressing everyone with his talent. Until we see you again Carl.you re with us always! Thanks for touching so many lives! KIM BARBER, JUNE 5, 2014 No one could make us laugh like Carl. Only Carl had the twisted sense of humor and the courage to come dressed as Monica Lewinsky to our HR department Halloween party. The thought of this still makes me laugh. Heaven has gained an angel...we have lost a friend. ANNE BUCKINGHAM, JUNE 4, 2014 Wow, reading all that friends have written here makes me sad you moved to texas after you got married and i didnt have a chance to know carl better..but i do know what a kind person he was and offered some guidance to brian when he was graduating art school. His legacy will live forever in your hearts and the wonderful memories will always be a comfort for you. All my prayers and hugs to all of you, your cuz robin ROBIN CHAPMAN, JUNE 4, 2014 Cj was an original, they just don't make them like him anymore. We need more like him. Always admired his love for his family, loyalty to his friends and cared for the underdogs. Cj, Thank you for caring an everything you did for me. Will never be forgotten. Won't be the same without you. JAMIE SENSAT, JUNE 4, 2014 Karen, You and Carl had a rare and wonderful love affair. I know you and your family will miss him always and that this is the most difficult of times. Thankfully, in time the pain will ease up but the memories will never fade. My favorite bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD,plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give
you hope and a future"...i have seen the truth of this verse over and over again. You are in my prayers sweet friend. PATTI SCOTCH, JUNE 4, 2014 Carl you will be greatly missed by all! I will pray for you and your family! ERICA MILLER-WARDLE, JUNE 4, 2014 Carl was my first "real" boss when I started at JCPenney back in 1992. I hadn't even graduated yet but he took a chance on me...after a more talented candidate declined the job! In my time at JCPenney we worked hard and played hard and we all learned a lot. He was a talented artist and a great person. He is survived by a wonderful family who will miss him greatly. We all will. Rest in peace my friend. RICH TATE, JUNE 4, 2014 Our hearts go out to you and your family. Death can take away the person from us, but not their memories. Love and memories are everlasting. DENEEN & RICH TATE, JUNE 4, 2014 CJ was one of my best friends. I admired him as he would always do what he thought was right despite the repercussions. If Carl was your friend, he was in your corner for the long haul. We traded music and movies regularly and had lunch together almost every day for the past few years. The world is most certainly a poorer place in his absence. I love you buddy, and will miss you sorely every day. Goodbye. DAVID BOLGIANO, JUNE 4, 2014 I truly enjoyed working with and knowing Carl. He will be greatly missed. Blessings and prayers to Carl and his family. DEBBIE MORETON, JUNE 3, 2014 I loved working with Carl. He was so talented and was always able to make something amazing out of the small bit of material I gave him. But most of all I will remember his caring spirit and the way he would light up when talking about his family, especially his grandson. He will be greatly missed by the many people who connected with him on a daily basis. God must have needed a great artist upstairs because he took one of the best.
RAMONA HEREFORD, JUNE 3, 2014 My first design job out of college was at JCPenney's before the company moved to Plano. Although Carl was the absolute professional, he had a great sense of humor. Practical jokes within the office were rampant when I worked there, and Carl was a master at it. I have so many great memories of my time at JCPenney's because of him. There was always hard work, but Carl reminded everyone that life was about fun too. God bless him and his family. Sincerely, Anne Grimley Horwitz ANNE GRIMLEY HORWITZ, JUNE 3, 2014 Carl, my friend, thank you for all your artistic and professional guidance, it was a pleasure working with you...my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family DEBBIE PIORKOWSKI, JUNE 3, 2014 Carl will be missed dearly...a real gentleman, class act with a ton of talent.
