July 22, 2018 Ninth Sunday after Pentecost Ordinary Time GOD CALLS AND CLEANSES US Gathering Song Hear the call of the Kingdom, Lift your eyes to the King Let His song rise within you as a fragrant offering Of how God rich in mercy came in Christ to redeem All who trust in His unfailing grace Hear the call of the Kingdom to be children of light With the mercy of heaven, the humility of Christ Walking justly before Him, Loving all that is right That the life of Christ may shine through us Hear the Call of the Kingdom Gettys and Townend (2006) REFRAIN: King of Heaven we will answer the call We will follow bringing hope to the world Filled with passion filled with power to proclaim Salvation in Jesus' name Hear the call of the Kingdom to reach out to the lost With the Father's compassion in the wonder of the cross Bringing peace and forgiveness and a hope yet to come Let the nations put their trust in Him REFRAIN X2 Welcome, Greeting and Announcements Childcare is available during the worship service. Infants/Toddlers (nursery); Two and Three year olds (Rooms 102, 103) Call to Worship Psalm 68:32-35 Leader: O kingdoms of the earth, sing to God; sing praises to the Lord, to Him who rides in the heavens, the ancient heavens; behold, He sends out His voice, His mighty voice. Ascribe power to God, whose majesty is over Israel, and whose power is in the skies. Awesome is God from His sanctuary; the God of Israel He is the one who gives power and strength to His people. Blessed be God! Prayer of Invocation Worship Singing The Lord Is King

Call to Confession Heidelberg Catechism, questions 92, 103 Leader: What is God s law? All: God spoke all these words: THE FOURTH COMMANDMENT Remember the sabbath day and keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work. But the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God; you shall not do any work you, your son or your daughter, your male or female slave, your livestock, or the alien resident in your towns. For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but rested the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and consecrated it. Leader: What is God s will for you in the fourth commandment? All: First, that the gospel ministry and education for it be maintained, and that, especially on the festive day of rest, I diligently attend the assembly of God s people to learn what God s Word teaches, to participate in the sacraments, to pray to God publicly, and to bring Christian offerings for the poor. Second, that every day of my life I rest from my evil ways, let the Lord work in me through his Spirit, and so begin in this life the eternal Sabbath. Confession of Sin All: Dear Heavenly Father, we lower our heads before You and we confess that we have too often forgotten that we are Yours. Sometimes we carry on our lives as if there was no God and we fall short of being a credible witness to You. For these things we ask Your forgiveness and we also ask for Your strength. Give us clear minds and open hearts so we may witness to You in our world. Remind us to be who You would have us to be regardless of what we are doing or who we are with. Hold us to You and build our relationship with You and with those You have given us on earth. Amen. Assurance of Pardon Isaiah 53:3-5 Leader: For He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with His wounds we are healed.

Worship Singing All Creatures of Our God and King St. Francis of Assisi (v. 1-2), trans. by Draper J. Baird and R. Baird (v. 3-4) 16th Century German tune, adapted All creatures of our God and King, Lift up your voice and with us sing O praise Him! Alleluia! Thou, burning sun with golden beam; Thou, silver moon with softer gleam Let all things their Creator bless and worship Him in humbleness O praise Him! Alleluia Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son, and praise the Spirit, Three in One! All the redeemed washed by His blood come and rejoice in His great love O praise Him! Alleluia! Christ has defeated every sin; cast all your burdens now on Him He shall return in pow r to reign. Heaven and earth will join to say O praise Him! Alleluia! Then who shall fall on bended knee? All creatures of our God and King O praise Him! O praise Him! Alleluia! Alleluia! REFRAIN: Break us by the power of Your grace, O Lord, Break us by the power of Your grace. Break us, remake us, don't let the sorrow take us; O break us by the pow r of Your grace. Break Us by Kelley McRae, additional lyrics by Isaac Wardell From the album, Lamentations, (2016) Sung by Joy Voigt When I walk through the evil and strife of the earth and I turn and I cover my eyes, The arms that do violence while our hearts watch in silence Won't You break them by the pow r of Your grace. REFRAIN When my flesh, it shall fail, and my work here is done and the heavens and earth are remade, Though I sowed here in sorrow, it ll be glorious tomorrow He'll remake it by the pow r of His grace! angod SPEAKS TO US Sermon Mark 4:35-41 Chris Horne Jesus and Fear On that day, when evening had come, He said to them, Let us go across to the other side. 36 And leaving the crowd, they took Him with them in the boat, just as He was. And other boats were with Him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. 38 But He was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke Him and said to Him, Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing? 39 And He awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, Peace! Be still! And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 He said to them, Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith? 41 And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?
