(Phil 3:9) The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace Jesus is our peace. (Eph. 2:14) The Shield of Faith Faith is not our own faith, it is a gift of God. (Eph. 2:8-9) The Helmet of Salvation Jesus Christ willingly sacrificed His life on the Cross for each of us, that we would be saved if we believe on His name. (John 3:16-18) The Sword of the Spirit which is the inerrant word of God. Eph. (Eph. 6:17) So to dress for success in Spiritual Battle: Live by God s truth--------the Belt of Truth Be holy----------------------the Breastplate of Righteousness Be at Peace with God----the gospel of peace Live by faith---------------the shield of faith Believe you are saved (if you have believed on the name of Jesus) the helmet of salvation Study and use God s Word---- the sword of the Spirit Pray also for ALL the saints-- WHAT IS PRAYER? PRAYER IS SIMPLY A HEART-FELT CONVERSATION WITH GOD! Prayer is a sincere, sensible, affectionate pouring out of the soul to God through Christ, in the strength and assistance of the Spirit, for those things God has promised. Praying effectively requires the intervention of God s Holy Spirit. Through the intentions of our hearts and the engagement of the Spirit, we discover the will of God. John Bunyan(of the late 1600 s) GOD WANTS US TO CALL OUT TO HIM 1 Chronicles 16:11; Psalm 91:15

EXAMPLES OF PRAYER(calling out to God).(of the sons of Korah) Psalm 84:8; (David)Psa 57:2; (Hannah) 1 Samuel 1:27 Ephesians 6:18 (NASB) With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, with all prayer and supplication/ petition pray prayer proseuche general in adoration, devotion and worship a prayer, a vow--- always used as praying to God (Luke 6:12) supplication deesis primarily a wanting, a need, personal petition specific; in NT, always addressed to God (Romans 10:1; James 5:16 ) all the time in the Spirit directed & empowered by the Spirit;Being Spirit-filled--- from the moment of our spiritual birth (Eph 1:13,14; Romans 8:26 ) being watchful/be on the alert watching sleepless, keeping awake to be attentive, vigilant (Col.4:2; Mark 14:34-38; 1 Pet. 5:8) This command of standing ready for combat can be made good only when constant, heart-felt prayer of the Spirit is added to the parts of the armor given to us by God. with all perserverance and petition/supplication (all) perseverance to give constant attention to a thing, to give unremitting care to a thing prayer prayer in general communicating with God in a general way petition/supplication special supplication specific prayer for all the saints (all) be aware of our brother and sister s(believers) need for prayer as a good soldier watch out for their needs. Pray persistently for them. James 5:1b (NKJV) The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. By prayer, we stay in touch with the will of God for our lives! Rom 8:26-27 Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV) Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and mi nds through Christ Jesus. (underlining is mine) anxious for nothing Matt. 6:25,31,32; 1 Pet. 5:7; Heb 4:16 TAKING ALL OUR REQUESTS TO GOD RESULTS IN PEACE!

the peace of God.will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus a military term- to keep under guard- as one guarding the gates. An inward guarding by Christ Jesus. OUR PEACE FROM GOD IS A SUPERNATURAL PEACE, NOT ANYTHING WE CAN MAKE HAPPEN. Peace is the fruit of believing prayer. (John 16:33) We must take the initiative to pray. Prayer is ALWAYS available to us because God is ALWAYS ready to listen and to answer our prayers. It is our choice! Isaiah 41:10 (NASB) 'Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.' WHY WE CAN HAVE CONFIDENCE IN GOD AS WE PRAY! God is a personal and loving God- 1 John 4:16 (NASB) We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. John 3:16 (NASB) "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. God is all powerful(omnipotent)- Luke 1:37 (NASB) "For nothing will be impossible with God." God is all-knowing(omniscient)- Psalm 139:2-4 (NASB) You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar. You scrutinize my path and my lying down, And are intimately acquainted with all my ways. Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O Lord, You know it all. Isaiah 46:10 (NASB) Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things which have not been done, Saying, 'My purpose will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure'; God is Sovereign-- Isaiah 55:8-9 (NASB) "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," declares the Lord. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts. God is holy--- Exodus 15:11 (NASB) "Who is like You among the gods, O Lord? Who is like You, majestic in holiness, Awesome in praises, working wonders? Revelation 15:4 (NASB) "Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy; For all the nations will come and worship before You, For Your righteous acts have been revealed." God is wise-- Daniel 2:20 (NASB) Daniel said, "Let the name of God be blessed forever and ever, For wisdom and power belong to Him. Romans 11:33 (NASB) Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!

God is omnipresent His presence is everywhere so no matter where we are God will hear our prayers (belly of a whale--- Jonah 2:1 (NASB) Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the stomach of the fish, GOD S WORD CALLS US TO PRAY. God has commanded us to pray! Colossians 4:2; 1 Thessalonians 5:17; Romans 12:12; Matthew 6:9 LEARN FROM OUR GREATEST EXAMPLE OF PRAYER--- JESUS! JESUS PRAYED TO HIS HEAVENLY FATHER. Matthew 6:5-15. WHEN did Jesus pray? EARLY MORNING / ALONE Mark 1:35 (NASB) In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded (L0NELY) place, and was praying there. EVENING Mark 6:45,46 (NASB) Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go ahead of Him to the other side to Bethsaida, while He Himself was sending the crowd away. After bidding them farewell, He left for the mountain to pray. When it was evening, the boat was in the middle of the sea, and He was alone on the land. TIRED (AND OFTEN) Luke 5:16 (NASB) But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray. AFTER PHARISEE S ANGER--Luke 6:12 (NASB) It was at this time that He went off to the mountain to pray, and He spent the whole night in prayer to God. WHAT did Jesus pray? To persevere in prayer-luke 18:1 (NASB) Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart, For others----matthew 19:13 (NASB) Then some children were brought to Him so that He might lay His hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them. John 17:9 (NASB) "I ask on their behalf; I do not ask on behalf of the world, but of those whom You have given Me; for they are Yours; (also 17:20-24) Forgiveness of His enemies---- Luke 23:34 (NASB) But Jesus was saying, "Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing." And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves.

MORE WAYS JESUS PRAYED! JESUS TOOK OTHERS WITH HIM TO PRAY(at transfiguration)-luke 9:28 (NASB) Some eight days after these sayings, He took along Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. TAUGHT HIS DISCIPLES HOW TO PRAY **PRAYER IS BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR HEAVENLY FATHER!!! Luke 11:2 (NASB) And He said to them, "When you pray, say: 'Father, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Matthew 6:9 (NASB) "Pray, then, in this way: 'Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. AT TIMES, THOSE JESUS TRUSTED WERE WITH HIM WHEN HE PRAYED -- Luke 9:18 (NASB) And it happened that while He was praying alone, the disciples were with Him, and He questioned them, saying, "Who do the people say that I am?" JESUS PRAYED IN FRONT OF OTHERS PRAISING GLORIFYING AND THANKING GOD THE FATHER Matthew 11:25 (NASB) At that time Jesus said, "I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. (at His baptism)luke 3:21 (NASB) Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus was also baptized, and while He was praying, heaven was opened, (at Lazarus grave)john 11:41 (NASB) So they removed the stone. Then Jesus raised His eyes, and said, "Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. (in front of His disciples) John 17:1 (NASB) Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, "Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You, HIGH PRIESTLY PRAYER the night He was betrayed--john 17:1 (NASB) Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, "Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You, for those(the disciples) the Father had given to Him(Jesus) 17:6-19 for future believers and their future glory; 17:25,26-personal prayer to His Father 17:20-24 JESUS WENT TO THE GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE AFTER HE PRAYED HIS PRIESTLY PRAYER--- John 18:1 (NASB) When Jesus had spoken these words, He went forth with His disciples over the ravine of the Kidron, where there was a garden, in which He entered with His disciples. (in agony) Knowing a major trial was ahead of Him--- desiring His Father to remove it Matthew 26:36 (NASB) Then Jesus came* with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said* to His disciples, "Sit here while I go over there and pray." 39 And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will." Luke 22:44 (NASB) And being in agony He was praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground.

PRAYERS ON THE CROSS Luke 23:34 (NASB) But Jesus was saying, "Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing." And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves. Mark 15:34 (NASB) At the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" which is translated, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" Psalm 22:1 (NASB) My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Far from my deliverance are the words of my groaning. Luke 23:46 (NASB) And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, "Father, Into Your hands I commit My spirit." Having said this, He breathed His last. Revelation 8:3 (NKJV) Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. In prayer, God can still our hearts and quiet our minds. anonymous To pray you can adore, confess, be thankful and petition(make supplication) A ADORATION C CONFESSION T---THANKSGIVING S SUPPLICATION Prayer opens the way for God Himself to do His work in us and through us. Andrew Murray If man is man and God is God, to live without prayer is not merely an awful thing; it is an infinitely foolish thing. Let s not be foolish and ignore the help we can find in prayer to our Father. Instead, let s approach Him with the boldness of a child who knows he is loved and wanted by his Father. anonymous Put on the whole armor of God to be victorious in the spiritual life. And make sure the wearing of it is bathed in prayer for all the saints. Taken from study book Spiritual Warfare: terms of engagement (p.120) by David Jeremiah

APPLICATION QUESTIONS! 1) How important is prayer in your life? 2) Is prayer a priority in your life? If so, how does it affect your life? 3) If prayer is not a priority, does that affect your life in any way? 4) Do you know that God hears your prayers and promises to answer? Psa 91:15 5) Prayer is the lifeline of a believer to our Heavenly Father. Call on Him to just have conversation, to tell Him your troubles or your joys, to ask for help, counsel, and guidance. He promises to answer and His answer may yes, no or wait. No matter the answer, you can trust Him because He is loves you and is Sovereign. REMEMBER to put on the armor of God and stand firm. The enemy HAS been defeated. PRAISE GOD! HAPPY THANKSGIVING! SEE YOUAT OUR BRUNCH/DINNER ON DEC. 2 ND! TO GOD BE THE GLORY! (Amen and Amen)
