Worship bags for children ages 3-6 are available from the ushers. Are you wearing a nametag? Whether you are a long-time member or new to the church, wearing a nametag provides others the opportunity to meet you, greet you by name, and for you to become more familiar with others at church. You will find nametags and markers in baskets at all major entrances. Iraq and Afghanistan often seem far away, and we may neglect to realize that Americans, as well as Iraqis, Afghans and members of coalition forces, continue to die. As Christians, we are called to pray for the spreading of peace and justice and an end to violence. If someone in your family is serving in the military, please let us know, so that we may include that person on our prayer list. Contact Colleen Falasco: 302-654-5214 ext. 131, or cfalasco@wpc.org. ORDER OF WORSHIP PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP The choral music for this morning s service is one of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart s many Mass settings, the Latin text of which constitutes the fixed portions of the liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church. It was composed in 1774 (when Mozart was just 18 years old!) for use at the Cathedral in Salzburg, Austria. This joyous music is offered today as part of the celebration of Westminster s 125 th anniversary. WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS *PASSING OF THE PEACE PRELUDE Church Sonata in G major, K. 274 W. A. Mozart CALL TO WORSHIP We seek a deeper faith in the God of the universe. We come asking, searching, and knocking. We seek the good gifts only God can provide. We come to experience God s steadfast love. *HYMN NO. 257 Give Praise to the Lord LAUDATE DOMINUM CALL TO CONFESSION PRAYER OF CONFESSION Eternal God, we often fail to love one another with Christ-like compassion. We frequently seek revenge rather than the more difficult path of forgiveness. We do not always seize opportunities to serve others who are in need. Forgive us, and infuse us with your Spirit so that we may have the desire to live as you have called us to live. KYRIE MISSA BREVIS IN D MAJOR, K. 194 W. A. Mozart Kyrie eleison, Christe eleison, Kyrie eleison. Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy. ASSURANCE OF GOD S FORGIVENESS At the asterisk (*), please stand as you are able. 4

GLORIA Mozart Gloria in excelsis Deo. Et in terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis. Laudamus te. Benedicimus te. Adoramus te. Glorificamus te. Gratias agimus tibi propter magnam gloriam tuam. Domine Deus, Rex coelestis, Deus Pater omnipotens. Domine Fili unigenite, Jesu Christe. Domine Deus, Agnus Dei, Filius Patris. Qui tollis peccata mundi, Miserere nobis. Qui tollis peccata mundi, suscipe deprecationem nostram. Qui sedes ad dexteram Patris, Miserere nobis. Quoniam tu solus Sanctus. Tu solus Dominus. Tu solus Altissimus, Jesu Christe. Cum Sancto Spiritu in gloria Dei Patris. Amen. Glory to God in the highest. And on earth peace to all those of good will. We praise thee. We bless thee. We worship thee. We glorify thee. We give thanks to thee according to thy great glory. Lord God, Heavenly King, God the Father almighty. Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son. Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father. Thou who takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou who takest away the sins of the world, receive our prayer. Thou who sittest at the right hand of the Father, have mercy upon us. For Thou alone art holy. Thou alone art the Lord. Thou alone art the most high, Jesus Christ. With the Holy Spirit in the glory of God the Father. Amen. TIME WITH OUR CHILDREN Greg Jones After Time with our Children, children up through 2 nd Grade may leave for Summer Sunday School. Older children remain in worship with their families. SCRIPTURE LESSON John 14:1-14 New Testament, page 95 Jen Barrington, Lay Liturgist SERMON The Challenge Greg Jones CREDO Mozart Credo in unum Deum, Patrem omnipotentem, factorem coeli et terrae, visibilium omnium, et invisibilium. I believe in one God, The Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all things, visible and invisible. And I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, True God from true God. Begotten, not made, of one substance with the Father by whom all things were made. Who for us and for our salvation came down from heaven. And was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary. And was made man. Crucified also for us under Pontious Pilate, he suffered, and was buried. And on the third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures. 5

Confiteor unum baptisma in remissionem peccatorum. Et expecto resurrectionem mortuorum. Et vitam venturi saeculi. Amen. THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. He shall come again in glory to judge the living and the dead; and of his kingdom there will be no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son who together with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who spoke through the Prophets. And I believe in one, holy, catholic and Apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the remission of sins. I await the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. Addison Elle Inkell The congregation is asked to please refrain from taking photographs or video recording during the worship service. PRESENTATION OF THE PARENTS AND CHILD Elder: Karen Dietz OPENING WORDS Baptism is the sacrament that unites us with Christ making us members of the Christian Church. Baptism is the visible sign that shows we belong to God. Like a mother who will not forsake her nursing child, Like a father who runs to welcome the prodigal home, God envelopes us with steadfast love. QUESTIONS FOR THE PARENTS AND CONGREGATION Do you acknowledge Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? We do. Relying on God s grace, do you promise to live the Christian faith and to teach that faith to your child? We do. Will we, the people of the church, promise to nurture and support Addison and her parents, and will we encourage her to become a follower of Christ? We will. PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING OVER THE WATER THE ACT OF BAPTISM PRAYER FOLLOWING BAPTISM Gracious God, giver of life, you have called us by name, and you pledge to each of us your faithful love. We pray today for your blessing on Addison. Watch over her and guide her as she grows in faith. Give her parents your wisdom and let them love with your love. Remind us of the promises we have made, and help us teach Addison what it means to follow Christ. Mold us all into your family of faith that we may embody the justice and compassion of Christ in our daily lives. Amen. 6

We are in need of host couples and dinner volunteers for the Family Promise ministry. Host couples eat dinner with our guest families, spend the night at church in your own designated classroom, and see the families off on the Family Promise van before 6:00 a.m. the next morning. Dinner volunteers prepare dinner for the three to four families we will host. Individuals, couples or groups can cook at WPC or at home. What to serve? Soup and salad, lasagna, a taco bar or your own specialty. If you have no time to cook, consider take-out fried chicken or ready-to-serve casseroles from Costco. To be an overnight host, contact Marlys Kerr at marlyskerr@aol.com or 302-654-2404. To be a dinner volunteer, contact Mary Lou McDowell at 302-655-8662 or MaryMcDowell5@aol.com. 12
