EXCERPT FROM POPE BENEDICT S MESSAGE ON THE FEAST OF ST. FRANCIS DE SALES The task of witnessing to the Gospel in the digital era calls for everyone to be particularly attentive to the aspects of that message which can challenge some of the ways of thinking typical of the web. First of all, we must be aware that the truth which we long to share does not derive its worth from its "popularity" or from the amount of attention it receives. We must make it known in its integrity, instead of seeking to make it acceptable or diluting it. It must become daily nourishment and not a fleeting attraction. 02 INSTITUTE OF CHRIST THE KING SOVEREIGN PRIEST

PURIFICATION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN: RITUAL OF THE CHURCHING OF WOMEN According to Mosaic law, a mother who had given birth was considered unclean and in need of a ritual of purification 40 days after giving birth. As the Virgin Mother of the Son of God, Mary did not need purification, but humbly submitted to the law through holy obedience. Christian mothers today imitate Mary in the traditional practice of a ceremony called the Churching of women. Although it is not a purification ceremony, churching is the woman's way of giving thanksgiving to God for the birth of her child, and predisposes her, through the priestly blessing that is a part of the Roman Ritual, to receive the graces necessary to raise her child in a manner pleasing to God. The ceremony often takes place immediately following the newborn s Baptism. As the mother kneels holding a lighted candle, the priest prays: Almighty, everlasting God, through the delivery of the blessed Virgin Mary, Thou hast turned into joy the pains of the faithful in childbirth; look mercifully upon this Thy handmaid, coming in gladness to Thy temple to offer up her thanks: and grant that after this life, by the merits and intercession of the same blessed Mary, she may merit to arrive, together with her offspring, at the joys of everlasting happiness. MONTHLY INFANT KING NOVENA The Shrine of Christ the King was built in 1923 by renowned architect Henry Schlacks as St. Clara Church. Having barely escaped the wrecking ball, this magnificent historic landmark has been given to the care of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest. With only provisional furnishings, the Shrine is already a haven for the transcendent beauty of the Extraordinary Form of the Latin Rite, dear to our beloved Pope Benedict XVI. The more you honor Me, the more I will bless you. Here, the Divine Infant King, real Symbol for Truth Lived in Charity, is the center of liturgical worship and devotion. A seventeenth century statue of the Divine Infant King, donated by a generous benefactor, has been solemnly crowned and enthroned above the High altar of the Shrine by His Eminence Francis Cardinal George in December 2007.
