We have all benefited from someone else s kindness. Think of the word kindness like a two way street. We offer kindness and we receive kindness. We remember kind moments throughout our life as being helpful and uplifting. Here s some food for thought regarding kindness. Who are some of the kindest people you know? What do they do to show kindness to those around them? Perry Noble, pastor and author, has said Our small acts of kindness will be the most significant legacy we leave behind. As we raise up the next generation of leaders instilling in them the value of offering acts of kindness can bring much needed healing in a broken world. Kindness is an important part of the wonderful grace of God. It s a tangible way we can share the good news of Jesus Christ every day. Who s that one person you know who could really benefit from you offering them kindness? Bless them as you will be blessed by sharing an act of kindness with them. Take Care and God Bless, Brad A Word From Pastor Brad...and be kind kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ has forgiven you. Ephesians 4:32

Romans 8:28 Committee Summaries For more information about our council, boards, or committees, please contact: Ron Jones ronald.r.jones@att.net Lay Leadership Committee Meeting - July 13, 2016 The meeting began with a prayer by Rev Brad Franklin. We decided to take a supporting role in the staffled Educator Appreciation Luncheon. The only other topic discussed was new committee/board/team members that will be needed for our Charge Conference in October. All team members will begin next month discussing gifts of service with congregation members to fill these vacant positions. The team will start filling the needed positions in September so we can present new committee/team/board line up to church council before charge conference. By the third week in August, VOLUNTEER forms will be available at the Services booth in the family life center for those who want to serve on one of these boards. The positions that will need to be filled are as follows; 3 new members for Lay Leadership team, 3 new members for the Trustees, 3 new members and a chair for the Staff Parish Relations Committee, 3 new members for Finance Committee and 4 new members for the Daycare Board. Consider and Pray about what YOU might be Gifted to do for Christ through Benton UMC. For more information on serving in these capacities, please contact: Ron Jones (318) 469-3693 INsight Monthly Newsletter of Benton United Methodist Church Page 4

Benton UMC Youth Band As you know, Benton United Methodist Church is extremely passionate about our youth ministries program. Last year we set out to do something that is rarely able to be accomplished within the confines of youth worship, to record a CD of original songs. Not only did they succeed in creating some of the most poetic and inspiring worship singles, but the CD is already making waves in our community through Gods amazing means of Grace. We are proud to announce that our Benton UMC Youth Band, "We the Believers", was chosen as one of the featured bands for the Regional Youth Diocese Conference Encounter with Jesus on Saturday August 27th, 2016. Joining forces with Deacon Larry Mills of St. Jude's Catholic Church, Will Hughes is excited to lead our youth band in what promises to be one of their biggest performances ever; with an expected crowd of 500-800 people. Please join us in support of such a fantastic outreach event as we team up with our neighboring churches for an incredible morning of fun, worship, music, and community involvement. Please show your support by attending and thank you for all the support you have given these kids in their quest to increase the quality of worship in our community through music! Also be sure to pick up a copy of "Heaven Calls" by We the Believers on sale today and every Sunday in the Gym. You can also contact Will Hughes, Millie Crites, or Rachel Stoneman for a copy! Thank you for your support ~ Will Hughes INsight Monthly Newsletter of Benton United Methodist Church Page 5

Everyone Can Serve! Young & Young at Heart! This has been a busy month for mission at Benton UMC! It has been such a blessing to have the help of all these children who add so much joy to our serving ministries during the summer break. We believe that serving children will grow into serving adults and welcome them to serve with us. Train children in the right way, and when old, they will not stray. Proverbs 22:6 The Summer Service and Scripture Memory group looks for missions to serve with their children and they had a great time. Jamie Sikes and her group (above and left) grocery shopped for the Benton UMC Emergency Food Pantry, and then organized, packed emergency boxes, and restocked the shelves! The adults worked side-by-side with the children, explain what the pantry was for and why it was so important. That was such a blessing for Ginny Jones and the rest of the Table Food Ministries crew. Thank you Summer Service and Scripture Memory and Jamie Sikes for bringing them here! We also had Catherine Long s grandchildren, Connor and Clara Yates, who helped with the NWLA Monthly Food Bag Packing and School Supply set-up. Connor said it was an awesome time and we hope they will be back! Connor teamed up with Deborah Kintner to pack peanut butter and walnuts. Jaelyn Simmons, Clara Yates and Sabrina Smith teamed up to pack crackers and vitamins. Later that afternoon, Clara and Catherine came back to help Jaelyn tag and pack book bags. Thank you all for the amazing service and friendship you offer! INsight Monthly Newsletter of Benton United Methodist Church Page 6

Serving Opportunities The Closet Clothes Ministry is in need of children's clothing in ALL sizes. Summer clothing and children s clothing is especially needed. Please consider donating gently used or new clothing. This ministry helps around fifty local families each month. We have had flood victims, fire victims and patrons who just need a helping hand. Your donations are greatly appreciated and greatly needed. As many of you know, our church and Closet Ministry has joined with the A Cross Faith Ministry. I am happy to report that we are close to moving to our new location. A Cross Faith is a joint ministry combining the efforts of St. Jude Catholic Church, Benton United Methodist Church, and Elizabeth Baptist Church. We now have volunteers from both churches working alongside our loyal BUMC volunteers. We are forming wonderful friendships while working together to help those in need in our community. Come join us.
