Children Sabbath School Lesson #94 for 9-20-2014 Song for opening the Sabbath School: A Scripture Song from the Book of Psalms Chapter 89:1 I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: I will sing, I will sing I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: I will sing of the mercies of the LORD with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness, thy faithfulness with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations. Opening Prayer requesting one of the little ones or mommies or daddies to give prayer Lesson #94: At Jacob s Well, Part 3 John 4:23 (KJV) But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. This week boys and girls, we will continue with part 3 in our lesson entitle, At Jacob s Well of our study book! John 3:3 (KJV) Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 4:24 (KJV) God [is] a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in spirit and in truth. John 4:25 (KJV) The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. John 4:26 (KJV) Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am [he]. Deuteronomy 18:15 (KJV) The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; John 4:27 (KJV) And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her? John 4:31 (KJV) In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat. John 4:32 (KJV) But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of. John 4:34 (KJV) Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson#94 (9.20.14) Page 1

Let s continue in our book Desire of Ages, Chapter #19, pages 189 191 He desired to lift the thoughts of His hearer above matters of form and ceremony, and questions of controversy. "The hour cometh," He said, "and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth." {DA 189.1} Here is declared the same truth that Jesus had revealed to Nicodemus when He said, "Except a man be born from above, he cannot see the kingdom of God." John 3:3, margin. Not by seeking a holy mountain or a sacred temple are men brought into communion with heaven. Religion is not to be confined to external forms and ceremonies. The religion that comes from God is the only religion that will lead to God. In order to serve Him aright, we must be born of the divine Spirit. This will purify the heart and renew the mind, giving us a new capacity for knowing and loving God. It will give us a willing obedience to all His requirements. This is true worship. It is the fruit of the working of the Holy Spirit. By the Spirit every sincere prayer is indited, and such prayer is acceptable to God. Wherever a soul reaches out after God, there the Spirit's working is manifest, and God will reveal Himself to that soul. For such worshipers He is seeking. He waits to receive them, and to make them His sons and daughters. {DA 189.2} Question: Boys & girls, how will the true worshipers worship the Father? And what type of religion will only lead to God? Answer: They shall worship in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth." And, the religion that comes from God. In order to serve Him aright, we must be born of the divine Spirit. Song: Let s learn a beautiful hymn together dear ones! Ye Must Be Born Again! A ruler once came to Jesus by night To ask Him the way of salvation and light; The Master made answer in words true and plain, Ye must be born again. Refrain Ye children of men, attend to the Word, So solemnly uttered by Jesus the Lord; And let not this message to you be in vain, Ye must be born again. Refrain O ye who would enter that glorious rest, And sing with the ransomed the song of the blest, The life everlasting if ye would obtain, Ye must be born again. Refrain A dear one in Heaven thy heart yearns to see, At the beautiful gate may be watching for thee, Then list to the note of this solemn refrain, Ye must be born again. Refrain Ye must be born again, Ye must be born again, I verily, verily, say unto thee, Ye must be born again. Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson#94 (9.20.14) Page 2

As the woman talked with Jesus, she was impressed with His words. Never had she heard such sentiments from the priests of her own people or from the Jews. As the past of her life had been spread out before her, she had been made sensible of her great want. She realized her soul thirst, which the waters of the well of Sychar could never satisfy. Nothing that had hitherto come in contact with her had so awakened her to a higher need. Jesus had convinced her that He read the secrets of her life; yet she felt that He was her friend, pitying and loving her. While the very purity of His presence condemned her sin, He had spoken no word of denunciation, but had told her of His grace, that could renew the soul. She began to have some conviction of His character. The question arose in her mind, Might not this be the long-looked-for Messiah? She said to Him, "I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when He is come, He will tell us all things." Jesus answered, "I that speak unto thee am He." {DA 189.3} Question: Boys & girls, As the Samaritan woman talked with Jesus, what impressed her? And, why? Answer: His words. And, she had never heard such sentiments from the priests of her own people or from the Jews. she had been made sensible of her great want. She realized her soul thirst, which the waters of the well of Sychar could never satisfy. As the woman heard these words, faith sprang up in her heart. She accepted the wonderful announcement from the lips of the divine Teacher. {DA 190.1} This woman was in an appreciative state of mind. She was ready to receive the noblest revelation; for she was interested in the Scriptures, and the Holy Spirit had been preparing her mind to receive more light. She had studied the Old Testament promise, "The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto Him ye shall hearken." Deuteronomy 18:15. She longed to understand this prophecy. Light was already flashing into her mind. The water of life, the spiritual life which Christ gives to every thirsty soul, had begun to spring up in her heart. The Spirit of the Lord was working with her. {DA 190.2} Question: Boys & girls, what happen after the woman heard Jesus words of revelation? And, what awoke in her, after she received the noblest revelation with an appreciative state of mind? Answer: Faith sprang up in her heart. She accepted the wonderful announcement from the lips of the divine Teacher. And, she was interested in the Scriptures, and the Holy Spirit had been preparing her mind to receive more light. Song: Let s learn a beautiful scripture song together dear ones! Acts 3:22 (KJV) (2x s) For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. whatsoever he shall say unto you Acts 3 chapter him shall ye hear Children s Sabbath School _ Lesson#94 (9.20.14) Page 3

The plain statement made by Christ to this woman could not have been made to the selfrighteous Jews. Christ was far more reserved when He spoke to them. That which had been withheld from the Jews, and which the disciples were afterward enjoined to keep secret, was revealed to her. Jesus saw that she would make use of her knowledge in bringing others to share His grace. {DA 190.3} When the disciples returned from their errand, they were surprised to find their Master speaking with the woman. He had not taken the refreshing draught that He desired, and He did not stop to eat the food His disciples had brought. When the woman had gone, the disciples entreated Him to eat. They saw Him silent, absorbed, as in rapt meditation. His face was beaming with light, and they feared to interrupt His communion with heaven. But they knew that He was faint and weary, and thought it their duty to remind Him of His physical necessities. Jesus recognized their loving interest, and He said, "I have meat to eat that ye know not of." {DA 190.4} Question: Boys & girls, why was Jesus far more reserved and withheld from the Jews the truth of who He was and His mission when speaking with them? And, why did He reveal this to the Samaritan woman? Answer: Their self-righteous disposition. And, Jesus saw that she would make use of her knowledge in bringing others to share His grace. The disciples wondered who could have brought Him food; but He explained, My meat is to do the will of him that sent Me, and to finish his work. John 4:34. As His words to the woman had aroused her conscience, Jesus rejoiced. He saw her drinking of the water of life, and His own hunger and thirst were satisfied. The accomplishment of the mission which He had left heaven to perform strengthened the Saviour for His labor, and lifted Him above the necessities of humanity. To minister to a soul hungering and thirsting for the truth was more grateful to Him than eating or drinking. It was a comfort, a refreshment, to Him. Benevolence was the life of His soul. {DA 190.5} Our Redeemer thirsts for recognition. He hungers for the sympathy and love of those whom He has purchased with His own blood. He longs with inexpressible desire that they should come to Him and have life. As the mother watches for the smile of recognition from her little child, which tells of the dawning of intelligence, so does Christ watch for the expression of grateful love, which shows that spiritual life is begun in the soul. {DA 191.1} Question: Boys & girls, what made Jesus rejoiced, as His words to the woman had aroused her conscience? And, what was to the Saviour more grateful to Him than eating or drinking? Answer: He saw her drinking of the water of life, and His own hunger and thirst were satisfied. And, To minister to a soul hungering and thirsting for the truth was more grateful to Him than eating or drinking. It was a comfort, a refreshment, to Him. Benevolence was the life of His soul. Its Story time! Gather the little ones together. Our book selection this Sabbath is entitle, Sons and Daughters of God Chapter 1 That when Christ Appears we Shall be Like Him Narrated by our dear Brother Grave! Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 1 John 3:2. {SD 9.1} We are not to settle down, expecting that a change of character will come to us by some miraculous work, when Jesus shall appear in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. No, my young friends, we are judgment-bound, and probation is granted to us here in this life, in order that we may form characters for the future, immortal life. {SD 9.2} Let none imagine that selfishness, self-esteem, and self-indulgence are compatible with the Spirit of Christ. Upon every truly converted man or woman there rests a responsibility that we cannot rightly estimate. The maxims and ways of the world are not to be adopted by the sons and daughters of the heavenly King. {SD 9.3} In separating from the world, we shall encounter difficulties on every hand. But here is comfort for us: "Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be; but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is." {SD 9.4} We should show by our words and works that we recognize the great responsibility laid upon us. Our light should shine so clearly that others can see that we glorify the Father in our daily lives; that we are connected with heaven and are joint heirs with Jesus Christ. {SD 9.5} To have fellowship with the Father and His Son Jesus Christ is to be ennobled and elevated, and made a partaker of joys unspeakable and full of glory. Food, clothing, station, and wealth may have their value; but to have a connection with God... is of priceless value.... And although it "doth not yet appear what we shall be," "when Christ, who is our life, shall appear," "we shall be like him." {SD 9.6} Next Week: We will continue with part 4 of our study entitle, At Jacob's Well of our lesson book! Closing Prayer request one of the little ones or mommies or daddies to give prayer. Next Sabbath: Chapter 19 At Jacob's Well Part 4, Sabbath September 27, 2014.
