Pentecost Worship Opening Sentence In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy Acts 2 :17 18 Opening Statement (Please join in the words in bold type) All All All O Lord, open our lips and our mouth shall proclaim your praise. Send your Holy Spirit upon us, and clothe us with power from on high. Alleluia. Blessed are you, creator God, to you be praise and glory for ever. As your Spirit moved over the face of the waters bringing light and life to your crea on, pour out your Spirit on us today that we may walk as children of light and by your grace reveal your presence. Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Blessed be God for ever. Hymn O Breath of life, come sweeping through us, Revive your church with life and power; O Breath of life, come, cleanse, renew us, And fit your church to meet this hour.

O Wind of God, come, bend us, break us, Till humbly we confess our need; Then in your tenderness remake us, Revive, restore, for this we plead. O Breath of love, come, breathe within us, Renewing thought and will and heart; Come, love of Christ, afresh to win us, Revive your church in every part. Revive us, Lord! Is zeal aba ng while harvest fields are vast and white? Revive us, Lord, the world is wai ng, equip your church to spread the light. Confession Father God, we thank you for your spirit breaking down barriers within and without, barriers that distort our ability to lead a life fully integrated with you and your ways. Forgive us for the mes we have deliberately resisted the Spirit s work Forgive us God for the barriers we create within ourselves, barriers that resist your healing work and prevent us moving toward wholeness. Forgive our self centerdness, our anger, our fear of change, our lack of trust in your love. Forgive us God, for the barriers we create between us and you, barriers that separate us from your love and the assurance of your salva on. Forgive our busyness, our independence, our desire to go our own way. Forgive us God, for the barriers we create between us and each other, barriers that separate us from neighbours near and far and inhibit mutual love and care. Forgive our resentment of others, our love of control, our

indifference to the poor. Forgive us God, for the barriers we create between us and your beau ful crea on, barriers that abuse your world and deny our responsibility as stewards. Forgive our greed, our misuse of resources, our pollu on of the environment. God, by the power of your spirit, free us and break down these barriers. Turn us away from the bondage of a life lived for ourselves and our own desires, May your spirit guide us into the freedom of life lived for you and your purposes. We remain seated seated and sing as a prayer... unaccompanied Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me; Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me; break me, melt me, mould me, fill me. Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me; Offering Yours Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the splendour, and the majesty; for everything in heaven and on earth is yours. All things come from you, and of your own do we give you. Hymn Spirit of God, unseen as the wind, gentle as is the dove, Teach us the truth and help us believe, show us the Saviour's love. You spoke to men, long, long ago, gave us the wri en Word; We read it s ll, needing its truth, through it God's voice is heard. Without your help, we fail our Lord, we cannot live His way, We need Your power, we need Your strength, following Christ each day.

Collect Prayer Almighty God who on the day of Pentecost sent your Holy Spirit on the disciples with the wind from heaven and with tongues of flame, filling them with joy and boldness to preach the gospel: send us out in the power of the same Spirit to witness to your truth and to draw everyone to the fire of your love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Methodist Worship A er each reading Reader: This is the word of the Lord All: Thanks be to God Hymn Spirit of holiness, wisdom and faithfulness, wind of the Lord, blowing strongly and free: strength of our serving and joy of our worshipping Spirit of God, bring your fullness to me! You came to interpret and teach us effec vely all that the Saviour has spoken and done; to glorify Jesus is all your ac vity promise and gi of the Father and Son: Refrain You came with your gi s to supply all our poverty, pouring your love on the church in her need; you came with your fruit for our growth to maturity, richly refreshing the souls that you feed: Refrain You came to the world in its pride and fu lity, warning of dangers, direc ng us home; now with us and in us, we welcome your company; Spirit of Christ, in his name you have come: Refrain Sermon The Reverend Canon Charles Royden

Hymn Come down, O Love divine, Seek thou this soul of mine, And visit it with thine own ardour glowing; O comforter, draw near, Within my heart appear, And kindle it, thy holy flame bestowing. O let it freely burn, Till earthly passions turn To dust and ashes, in its heat consuming; And let thy glorious light Shine ever on my sight, And clothe me round, the while my path illuming. Let holy charity Mine outward vesture be, And lowliness becomes mine inner clothing; True lowliness of heart, Which takes the humbler part, And o'er its own shortcomings weeps with loathing. And so the yearning strong, With which the soul will long, Shall far outpass the power of human telling; For none can guess its grace, Till he become the place Wherein the Holy Spirit makes his dwelling.

Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pon us Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrec on of the body, and the life everlas ng. Amen. Prayers We conclude our prayers with the prayer Jesus taught us.. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into tempta on, but deliver us from evil, For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen

Hymn Head of thy church, whose Spirit fills And flows through every faithful soul, Unites in mys c love, and seals Them one, and sanc fies the whole: 'Come, Lord!' thy glorious Spirit cries; And souls beneath the altar groan; 'Come, Lord,' the bride on earth replies, 'And perfect all our souls in one!' Pour out the promised gi on all, Answer the universal 'Come!' The fullness of the Gen les call, And take thine ancient people home. To thee let all the na ons flow, Let all obey the gospel word; Let all their suffering Saviour know, Filled with the glory of the Lord. O for thy truth and mercy's sake The purchase of thy passion claim; Thine heritage, the na ons, take And cause the world to know thy name! Final Prayer & Blessing God of power, may the boldness of the Spirit transform us, may the gentleness of the Spirit lead us, may the gi s of your Spirit equip us to serve and worship you, now and always. Amen. May the blessing of God Almighty Father, Son and Holy Spirit be upon you and remain with you this day and evermore Amen. Jesus said, Receive the Spirit: as the Father sent me, so I send you. Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. In the name of Christ. Amen.

This is an ancient collect prayer which you may like to keep and use at home... O heavenly Father, in whom we live and move and have our being, we humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit that in all the cares and occupa ons of our daily life we may never forget you, but remember that we are ever walking in your sight; for your own name s sake. Amen Gi Aid Thank you to those people who have made their offering to the church by standing order. If you are a tax payer please use envelopes or a standing order, so that we can claim the tax back.
