ADVENT WEEK 2: UNDERSTANDING THE PROPHECY TRADITIONS OF THE MESSIAH

Transcription:

Dear Members and Friends, We gather for a week of Holy Convocation July 15-22, 2012. This is the summit meeting of all meetings that are held in the district all year. We have witnessed in our sessions in the past a tremendous outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon us. We can speak with conviction and clarity that when we come together in genuine fellowship, the Lord shows up. He said He would, for where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them. Matthew 18:20 (NIV). The theme for this gathering is Mustard Seed Faith Moves Mountains. We look forward to explore how faith works in many dimensions of our lives. We conclude with the affirmation that faith is the victory that overcometh the world. Come fellowship with us and we will do you good. Peace and health, Bishop Elroy Lewis, President 1

Elder Lannie Robertson Monument of Faith Ministries, Eden, NC Communion Reading... Elder Edward Clark The Washing of Hands... Bishops and Elders The Giving of Sacraments... The Elders As we come to the Lord s table, let us come with a spirit of humility and penitence. Let us examine ourselves: our thoughts, our actions, our motives, and our attitudes towards others. Help us Lord to remember our responsibility to our families and our neighbors, our stewardship to you, and the work you have given to our hands. As we eat the bread, which represents Christ s body, which is the true and living bread, open our eyes to recognize the intimacy that you yearn to share with us. As we drink the cup, which represents Christ s blood shed for us, we thank you for the new covenant, Love ye one another which is written on our hearts. Let us rejoice because our names are written in heaven. May this Lord s supper energize every area of our lives and enable us to transcend our circumstances, our inadequacies, and our enemies. We praise you, O God, who made us your own people through the death and resurrection of your son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Responsive Reading Leader: We despised him and rejected him a man of sorrows, acquainted with bitterest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way when he went by. He was despised and we didn t care. Audience: Yet it was our grief he bore, our sorrows that weighted him down. And we thought his troubles were punishment for his own sins! Leader: But he was wounded and bruised for our sins. He was chastised that we might have peace: he was lashed and we were healed! Audience: We are the ones who strayed away like sheep! We, who left God s paths to follow our own. Yet God laid on him the guilt and sins of every one of us! Leader: He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Audience: Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. Leader: We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. All: Yet it was the Lord s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the Lord makes his life a guilt offering, he will see offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand.
