Greetings to you all in the Lord! Rain poured down over the third weekend of October. Praise the Lord! Southern California was soaked with about an inch of rain. The National Weather Service said that the rain brought more than 2100 lighting strikes in Orange County and the San Diego area. I have never seen lightening like that before. My two brave dogs were simply subdued by them. To get out of drought, we need about 15 inches of rain. Let us ask God for more rain, maybe 15 times like the one we just had. The big theater project has gotten bigger. The movie screen weighs about 450 lbs and initially it was going to be hung in front of the stage curtain. A rafter in the attic was directly above the curtain and it would have been an easier installation to go with the initial plan. In the process, Mike Hinckley and I learned that it would be better to hang it behind the curtain. This new plan caused us to move the stage curtains around, and change the location of the lighting. All the prepwork has been an unexpected major undertaking and has delayed the whole project a month. After much thought and measurements, heavy-duty metal brackets to hang the screen in place were designed, by the intervention of God, we met a devout believer, Jan Brinkman, at Custom Metal Fabrication. He volunteered to fabricate the brackets for us. With his expertise, he improved our design. He has even offered us a hand-cranked forklift and has made a special metal fitting to lift up the screen on the forklift. I have experienced God s grace on the project from the beginning, and His grace still continues. Let me just go over what is going to happen in the coming months. The first Sunday of November is United Methodist Women s Sunday. They will celebrate their ministries and missions during Sunday worship, and will display what they have been working on. Charge Conference this year will be held at Redlands UMC on November 14, 6:30 p.m. The Mission Area churches will worship and fellowship together, report what they have accomplished this year, and plan for the coming year. If you are in charge of committees or ministries, please submit your annual report to Linda in the office by the 7 th of November. UMW will host Thanksgiving Dinner on November 20 right after the Sunday Worship. UMCoY is one big family of God and will celebrate the Thanksgiving together. If you would like to volunteer for dishes, please let Aleta Kerker know. Treble Clef has accepted my invitation to the dinner. They will come and sing for us. The second Christmas Concert will be held in our beautifully decorated sanctuary on December 11, 2:00 p.m. For the Concert, I have invited a music professor and a cellist from Cal Baptist University. 8The Christmas Concert has multiple purposes, it is an outreach, praising God with music, and a fundraiser. Please plan to be there, and invite all your friends and families. You are going to love the sacred music, and Christmas songs. All the proceeds will go toward a new air conditioning and heating system in the fellowship hall. The concert tickets will be available in the office soon. Again, there will be a lot of uplifting Christmas songs and music at Christmas Eve Worship. We had close to 160 people attending the service last year and expect to have more for the service this year. Christmas falls on Sunday this year. The Sunday Worship will be held at 10:30 a.m. instead of 9:30 a.m., so that you and your whole family could come together after breakfast and opening of your Christmas gifts. In closing, I would like to thank Pastor Ron for filling in for me while I have been busy with the theater project, Carol Pistilli for teaching Junior Church every Sunday during this transition of us looking for a new education director, and of course, Mike Hinckley who has worked very hard on the theater project. Looking forward to much excitement ahead, Phillips

Upcoming Event Put this date on your calendar November 14, 2016, 6:30 pm Annual Charge Conference - First UMC Redlands Please get your reports into the office by November 7. Greetings from Leah s Circle I am happy to report that the 2016/17 meetings are off to a great start. Our theme for this year is Creating a Supportive Community. Chris Smith volunteered to be the liaison for the Dunlap Elementary School and the Aldeana Hinkle Pregnancy & Family Resource Center. Thank You, Chris, for all that you do. Our bible study and reflection in October was based on Exodus 1: 15-22 and how two midwives Shiphrah and Puah defied the Pharaoh and did not killed the male Hebrew children so that others may have the abundant life promised by God. This was the perfect fit for our guest speaker Linda Brown, the director of the Aldeana Hinkle Pregnancy & Family Resource Center in Yucaipa. Linda talked about services the Center provides and how small our donations help their growing needs. The Center is a non-profit organization that helps Women, children & families in crises. The Circle provided the Center with some diapers along with baby socks, booties, and receiving blankets Sunday, November 6, 2016 has been designated as United Methodist Women of Yucaipa day, celebrating the women of our church. We will have a special blessing of our projects during the service, and all of the projects will be displayed in the fellowship hall. The following week the projects will be distributed and/or mailed to the designated organizations. Leah s Circle is hosting a Thanksgiving potluck on the Sunday after Thanksgiving November 27, 2016. The next few weeks I will be in the fellowship hall with sign-up sheets. We will need turkeys and all the trimmings. The Circle will be placing empty baby bottles at the dinner tables for donation. All proceeds collected will go to the Aldeana Hinkle Pregnancy & Family Resources Center. If you have any questions, please to not hesitate to contact me. We are also planning a special Valentine luncheon for the ladies of the church and community. We ll have more on that later as plans progress. Thank you, Sarah Van Tassel, for heading up that project. Our next meeting will be held Wednesday, November 16, 2016 in the Camilla Room. The Object for November is to reflect on the challenge from scripture (Hebrews 10:24-25) to encourage each other to do more good work and how United Methodist Women help women and families. We will also discuss our preparations for the church-wide Thanksgiving dinner. Aleta Kerker, President United Methodist Women of Yucaipa
