Dear Parents, The importance of hiding the word of God in our hearts cannot be overemphasized. Jesus said, Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God (Matt 4:4). The sacred writings are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus (2 Tim 3:15). It is the word of God that makes the man of God adequate, equipped for every good work (2 Tim 3:17). God s word will keep you pure (Ps 119:9). Because God works through His word, this year we are again challenging the entire church to memorize God s Word together. So, parents we encourage you also to memorize God's Holy Word with your children. We will again have shorter portions of the same passage in age appropriate lengths. The youngest children (3-4 year olds) will memorize the bold section, young children (K 3rd grade) will memorize the underlined part of the verse. And the older children, parents, grandparents, and everyone else in the church will memorize the entire passage. But we would encourage you to challenge your child to learn as much of the verse as possible regardless of age based on their individual ability. The sequencing of the verses to be memorized was developed by Children Desiring God (CDG). We will be memorizing year 3 of their 5 year plan but unlike their plan we will be taking one week a month to have a review week. Please take advantage of these review weeks to cement the words of scripture into your mind and heart. The CDG website fighterverses.com is a great resource regarding scripture memory for the entire family. They also have a phone app available with games and other tools to make scripture memory fun for children and adults alike. I know the prayer of every Christian parent is to see their children come to know the Lord Jesus Christ in a personal saving way. May God use these verses that our children are learning, not only to save them, but to equip them so that they will be a pillar and support of the truth in the coming generation.
