When we say God is the triune God, we are saying something about who God is beyond, before, and after the universe: that there is community within God. Our experience of this is reflected in Paul s words today. When we pray to God as Jesus prayed to his Abba (an everyday, intimate parental address), the Spirit prays within us, creating between us and God the same relationship Jesus has with the one who sent him. PRELUDE A Day to Remember Suzy Schultz, pianist GREETING AND ANNOUNCEMENT SPECIAL MUSIC Nina by Pergolesi Kalin Jolstad and Ardy Vos SACRAMENT OF HOLY BAPTISM (10:30 AM) Everhett Jean Hendrickson (Please use the card in the pew rack to follow the baptismal service) CALL TO WORSHIP AND PRAYER P: This Holy Trinity weekend may the peace of The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit be with you all. C: And also with you. P: To the Triune God, from whom all blessings flow, we lift our lives and our voices. We come to this worship knowing that without You we are nothing. As the body of Christ, let us sing to the One who has loved us forever. Let us worship the Three in One, the One in Three. 2

OPENING HYMN Holy God We Praise Your Name vs. 1, 3, 4 3

CONFESSIONAL READING AND RESPONSE (reader) R: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, as we worship and praise you, the three in One, we confess to you that our minds are willing, but our flesh is weak. We are both saint and sinner. We are like a candle in the wind, sometimes burning brightly and sometimes we are snuffed out by demands and ways of this world. As we live this precious life you have blessed us with, help us to live with eyes wide open. We need your wisdom and guidance each moment of each day. C: Slow us down to appreciate the present. It is a gift! R: In our human-ness, some of us lose our health and mental wellbeing to make money and get ahead ; then we lose our money to restore our health and our mental well- being. C: Remind us often, that you are the way, the truth and the life. R: Lord, we can be so anxious about the future, that we forget about the daily blessings that surround us. C: Unclutter our minds and our hearts, keeping our eyes on the heavenly prize that awaits those who serve you. R: We humbly confess to you, that we live as if we will never die and many of us die as if we have never lived. (Silence for prayer) THE FORGIVENESS OF OUR SINS P: It is a new day. Sin and death have no hold over you, for there is nothing that can separate you from the love of God. The mercies of heaven are sure and new each day. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, your sins are forgiven and remembered no more. 4

HYMN My Tribute (soloists sing the verse, congregation sings the refrain) PRAYER TO THE HOLY TRINITY P: God of Heaven and Earth, before the foundation of the universe and the beginning of time, the Holy Trinity was, is and forever shall be. You are the Triune God, the Author of Creation, the Eternal Word of Salvation, the Life Giving Spirit of Wisdom. You are all these things and we are loved by You. C: Let us live our lives grounded in the knowledge and truth of knowing your love for us. Make your ways of justice, mercy and peace our ways. May we live boldly in all that Christ has done for us. This day and always, let us sing our praise to Father, Son and Holy Spirit. 5

HOLY TRINITY HYMN Glorify Thy Name RESPONSIVE PRAYER P: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, be within us that we would burn brightly in the darkness and evils of this world. C: Be beside us as we live the lives that we have been called to live. P: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, continually comfort and restore us. C: whether friend or stranger. P: Let us bind ourselves to your mystery with a bold faith, knowing you, the Three in One and One in Three. C: Holy Trinity, in our living, let our words and our actions be a living hallelujah to you and to our world. You are alive within us! Continue to strengthen us, sending us out to be rock for the world! 6

WE HEAR THE WORD OF GOD LESSON Romans 8:12-17 12Brothers and sisters, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh 13 for if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. 15 For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, Abba! Father! 16 it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ if, in fact, we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him. R: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. SUNG RESPONSE Holy, Holy, Holy vs. 1, 3, 4 7

GOSPEL John 3:1-17 P: Now there was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews. He came to Jesus by night and said to him, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do apart from the presence of God. Jesus answered him, Very truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above. Nicodemus said to him, How can anyone be born after having grown old? Can one enter a second time into the mother s womb and be born? Jesus answered, Very truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be astonished that I said to you, You must be born from above. The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit. Nicodemus said to him, How can these things be? Jesus answered him, Are you a teacher of 8

Israel, and yet you do not understand these things? Very truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know and testify to what we have seen; yet you do not receive our testimony. If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. P: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God! CHILDREN S MESSAGE SERMON Pastor Kent Lee 9

HYMN OF THE DAY There is A Redeemer THE APOSTLES CREED (5:30 PM & 9:00 AM) P: I believe in God, the Father almighty, C: creator of heaven and earth. P: I believe in Jesus Christ, C: his only Son, our Lord. P: He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, C: and born of the Virgin Mary. P: He suffered under Pontius Pilate, C: was crucified, died, and was buried. P: He descended into hell. C: On the third day He rose again. 10

P: He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father: C: He will come again to judge the living and the dead. P: I believe in the Holy Spirit, C: the holy catholic Church, P: the communion of saints, C: the forgiveness of sins, P: the resurrection of the body, C: and the life everlasting. Amen. PRAYERS OF THE CHURCH P: God of All Wisdom, you sent the Holy Spirit to us to engulf our hearts with a zeal for the work of the Church. Strengthen us for the tasks and challenges that lie before us, turn our trials and joys into constant offerings to you, bearing fruit for this world. As we serve, C: let us use our disappointments as opportunities for patience. Let us use successes to give you thanks. Let us use trouble to build up perseverance. Let us use danger to build up our courage. P: Summer is upon us. May heaven protect all who will be traveling. May all who take to the road, to other parts of God s creation, find peace and rest and return safely to us. C: We give thanks for all of creation; animals and birds, mountains, seas and skies, lakes and rivers, sunrises and sunsets. May we each do our part in the care of God s earth and skies and all that are in them. P: On this Memorial Weekend, we pause to pray with our brothers and sisters across this land. With them we remember all who have served to protect liberty and justice and the pursuit of freedom around the world. We remember those that gave the ultimate sacrifice that others might live. Let us pause for a moment of personal prayer and thanks. (A bell is rung 3 times as we pray silently and reflect on our many blessings) 11

P: For those who have served and for those who are currently serving in this country and around the world, we thank you for your sacrifice and offer our prayers for you and for your families. Let us live for the day when all hatred and war will cease. C: Jesus, make us channels of your peace and love; knowing that the peace we so long for, must begin in our own hearts. P: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, there are persons in need of your healing touch; persons who are ill in body, mind and spirit; those who have lost loved ones, We pray for... We pray now for those whom we name aloud or in our hearts. (silence) P: Lord in your mercy, C: Hear our prayers and unite all of creation as you are united in the Trinity. Amen. OFFERTORY PRAYER P: Triune God, we give to you what you first gave to us; our time, our treasure, our possessions, our very lives. C: May we live knowing that where our treasure is, there our hearts will be also. P: Luke 6:48 says this: Give and it will be given to you; a good measure, pressed down and shaken together, will be put into your lap. For the measure you give, will be the measure you get back. C: We come before God, offering all that we have and all that we are. OFFERINGS ARE RECEIVED 12

OFFERTORY MUSIC Let There be Peace on Earth (join in singing with soloists if you desire) Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me. Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be. With God our Creator, children all are we. Let us walk with each other, in perfect harmony. Let peace begin with me. Let this be the moment now. With every breath I take, let this be my solemn vow. To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally. Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me. OFFERTORY RESPONSE All That We Have 13

THE LORD S PRAYER C: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil, for the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen. SHARING OF THE PEACE SENDING AND BLESSING P: Holy God, you dwell in the church by your life-giving Spirit. Let new winds blow through your people. Inspire the newly baptized, empower church leaders and renew us all for service. C: Draw your whole church together, into one great company of disciples, moving mountains in your name, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. P: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, may our work and our mission on this earth, begin! As the body of Christ, we are sent out to be rock for the world. Let the people of God say, Amen! C: Amen, send us out rejoicing in you! 14
