Repeat, Repeat, Repeat You may notice that some of the videos or small group activities repeat questions; that s not an accident! What s in the Bible? is a Biblical literacy curriculum that seeks to help children know the stories of the Bible, and how those stories were formed. Review and repetition are central to helping children understand the Bible. Music Ideas A few ideas for incorporating music into the What s in the Bible? lessons: Use the songs and music videos to sing along to in between Video 2 / Small Group 2 and Video 3 / Small Group 3. Or, add your favorite song after each small group activity! You might also use the What s in the Bible? songs as children are walking in or out of the classroom, or as quiet music during small group activities. Make it Your Own! What s In the Bible? gives you the freedom to customize your own curriculum. That means you have the ability to change, edit, remove or add anything you want to make this lesson a perfect fit for your children s ministry. SAY: Did you see Buck Denver? He is Buck Denver, Man of News! Did you notice that Buck Denver has 4 clocks on the wall behind him during his newscast? Did you see which 4 cities are under the clocks? (London, New York, Tokyo, Wheaton) Which of these places would you most like to visit? SAY: Let s play a Time Zone Game! TAKE OUT the Time Zone News Spinner and place it in the middle of the circle. DIVIDE the group into two teams. SAY: I ll say a news headline and your job is to guess what time it happened! For each headline, I ll choose one person from each team to guess the time. Those two people can raise their hands once they know the time. Whoever raises his/her hand first can guess the time by moving the Time Zone News Spinner to the right time. Teacher Note: There are no absolute right answers for this game. After a child has chosen a time, ask him/her to explain why that time was chosen. The game is intended to serve as a fun way to get to know the children in your group. NEWS HEADLINES: An early morning storm delays traffic on the highways. Football superstar decides to quit practice after lunch. Teachers close school early so children can have time to cook dinner for their parents. The Presidential election may continue for hours, well into the night. Customers wait in line starting at midnight to see the big movie opening. Movie Star was spotted at a local restaurant eating breakfast. Travel plans are cancelled after mosquitoes invade a camper s afternoon nap. Restaurant shuts down after the dinner crowd due to a case of food poisoning. New church offers Saturday afternoon classes for parents. Marathon attracts a record number of runners due to the early morning start time. SAY: Great job! That was really fun! VIDEO 2 / SMALL GROUP 2 Supplies: Video 2, 1 Bible (Per 3 Kids), Masking Tape Teacher Note: This activity is designed to help kids become familiar with using their Bibles. Take your time with this activity. This will be new for some of the kids in your group. SET UP THE GAME: Using the masking tape, tape down a start line and a goal line roughly 10-15 feet apart. SAY: We are going to spend some time looking through the book of Exodus. I am going to ask a question, and your group can find the answer in your Bible. The group who answers each question first will receive 2 step points for today s game. The team who answered correctly will have one person on the start line and will take 2 steps for each question answered. The goal is to be the first person to cross the kingdom goal line. I ll keep asking questions and you keep answering until we have a winner. TAKE OUT Bibles and group the children into teams of 2-3. Pass out 1 Bible to each group. Encourage each team representative to line up on the start line with plenty of space between each. QUESTIONS 1. Look at Exodus 15:26. Have the kids sit in a circle around the Cap n Puzzl n Board, and the picture of the completed puzzle. Tell the kids to take a good look at the completed puzzle. Mix up the cards, and pass the cards to 8 kids. Start the music and have the kids pass the cards around the circle. When the music stops, the children holding the cards can try to assemble the cards on the Board before the music starts. If they get it right GREAT JOB, if not pick up the cards and start over.
