ORDER OF WORSHIP Gathering Chime Prelude Prelude in E minor Chopin Welcome and Announcements (Please sign the Welcome Book and pass it to your neighbor.) Introit Praise God, All You Nations No. 328 Julie Henry, Soloist (Julie will sing through the first time, please join her the 2nd time through.) Praise God, all you nations. People of God, sing praise! Praise God, all you nations. People of God, sing praise! God s love is great, and endures forever. Praise God, all you nations. People of God, sing praise! *Call to Worship adapted from Psalm 30 (* Please stand as you are able.) One: O come, let us sing unto the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! All: Let us come into God s presence with thanksgiving and make a joyful noise with songs of praise! One: For the Lord is a great God, and a great ruler above all gods, in whose hands are the depths of the earth and the heights of the mountains. All: The sea is the Lord s, who made it, and the dry land, which divine hands have formed. One: So come, let us worship and bow down, and kneel before the Lord, our Maker. All: For the Lord is our God; we are the people of his pasture, the sheep of his hand. Come and listen to the sound of God s voice! *Hymn God is Here! No. 409 *Call to Confession 2
*Prayer of Confession Lord God of mercy: in the presence of your holiness and in the presence of fellow Christians, we admit that we have sinned against you and others in thought, word, and deed, both by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have allowed daily distractions and misplaced loyalties to stand between us. We have not loved you with our whole heart, mind and strength, nor have we loved neighbors as ourselves. In your grace, forgive what we have been, amend what we are, and direct us in what we shall be, so we may delight in your will and walk in your ways. Please accept also now these personal prayers of repentance Silent Confession *Response Break Thou the Bread of Life (v. 1) No. 460 Break thou the bread of life, dear Lord, to me, as thou did break the loaves beside the sea. Beyond the sacred page I seek thee, Lord. My spirit pants for thee, O living Word! *Assurance of Pardon *Response Break Thou the Bread of Life (v. 2) No. 460 Bless thou the bread of life, dear Lord, to me, as thou didst bless the bread by Galilee. Then shall all bondage cease, all fetters fall. And I shall find my peace, my all in all. *Sharing the Peace of Christ One: May the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you, All: and also with you. One: Let us share that peace with one another. 3
Prayer for Illumination Scripture Readings Old Testament: Deuteronomy 8:1-10 OT, p. 165 One: This is the word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God. Epistle: 1 Corinthians 10:1-5; 14-17 NT, p. 172 Sermon: Charlie Humperdink s Outdoor Grill Duane Hix *Affirmation of Faith (A Declaration of Faith, PCUS, 1976) We believe that at the Lord s Supper the community of believers is renewed by the memory of Christ s life and death, by his real presence in the power of the Holy Spirit, and by the promise of his coming again. Christ makes himself known to us in the breaking of bread. He offers us his body broken for our sake and his blood shed for the forgiveness of our sins. We accept his promises and gifts and depend on his life to sustain ours. In turn we offer ourselves in thanksgiving to the risen Lord who has conquered death. So we celebrate his victory here and now and anticipate the joyous feast in his coming kingdom. Reunited around one loaf and cup, we receive strength and courage to continue our pilgrimage with God in the world. *Hymn You Satisfy the Hungry Heart No. 523 Time with Our Children Offering of Tithes and Gifts 4
Offertory Sometimes I Hear God s Music Williams Julie Henry, Soloist r Sometimes I hear God's music like none I've heard before; the music of the gentle brook, the ocean's mighty roar, the singing of the nightingale, the thunder's mighty noise, the silence of the starry night, and I must add my voice. God's music fills my heart with peace, it floods my soul with joy. God's music makes my spirit sing and every note employ. The music of God's love for me He sent his Son to sing. The music of eternity throughout the heavens rings. Sometimes I hear God's music like none I've heard before; the music of the gentle brook, the ocean's mighty roar, O the music of God's sacrifice, of the death that Jesus chose, O the music of forever; Jesus Christ arose! All creation sing together of a love the faith never, the music of forever. Praise God forever! *Doxology Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow No. 608 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise Christ, all people here below; praise Holy Spirit evermore; praise Triune God, whom we adore.
