The Teachings of Jesus GRADE 0-1 1. Being salt and light 2. Treasures in heaven 3. Building wisely 4. Love your enemies 5. Judging others KickStart Kick Start is designed to keep the kids busy from the moment they arrive in small groups of ideally six. This helps to keep control, keeps kids busy, involved and creates a sense of identity and security with their peers and their leader. Re Fuel Re Fuel involves an ice-breaker/game, telling the Bible story for the day in a way that brings the story to life. Worship and prayer are all a part of this interactive time. It is also important to welcome 1st time visitors, sing happy birthdays and take up the tithes and offerings. It is good to revise the previous week s lessons and the memory verse. X-Celerate X Celerate is the time that the children go back into their same small groups as in Kick Start and do an activity with the leader while being asked questions and discuss what they have just learnt. 7:30 Leaders pray (Team Room) 9:30 7:45 KickStart 9:45 8:05 ReFuel (Worship) 10:05 8:20 ReFuel (Game, Bible Story) 10:20 8:45 X-Celerate (Activity) 10:45 9:25 Walk Down 11:25

Let the children place glue on the Body of the salt shaker and then glue some salt on. The children can then colour in the picture. 7Day Challenge (Learning to walk with Jesus 7 days a week). Remind children that this next week we will be bringing specific items for filling the Love in a box next week Get children to give feedback of specific challenges or testimonies from the previous week, especially from the PreLoad CD (leaders should be familiar with content of the PreLoad CD and what the challenges were). Strongly encourage children to take up the challenge and prayer pointers for this week on the PreLoad CD and to bring and share the testimonies of what God has done in their lives this past week. Go over memory verse with children. Pray with the children.

Grade 0-1 Week 1 You are the salt of the earth Matthew 5:13

Grade 0-1 Week 2 Treasures in heaven Memory verse: Don t forget my teaching, keep them in your heart, and you will live a long life (Proverbs 3:1-2). Bottom line: Invest in eternal things Bible teaching: Matthew 6:19-24 (where your heart is there your treasure will be also, can t serve 2 masters) Bible Story: The rich young man (Matthew 19:16-30) Items required: Christmas wrapping paper, unused shoe box (1 per small group), gifts which children will be bringing to fill the box (this is part of the Love in a box project) Activity: Children will fill the shoe boxes with the gifts they have brought along (boys or girls and age appropriate), wrap the box and fill in detail about box (boy or girl, age etc). 7Day Challenge (Learning to walk with Jesus 7 days a week). Go over memory verse with children. Pray with the children.

Grade 0-1 Week 3 Building wisely Memory verse: Don t forget my teachings, keep them in your heart, and you will live a long life (Proverbs 3:1-2). Bottom line: We need God s wisdom to make wise choices Bible Teaching: Wise and foolish builders (Matt 7:24-29) Bible Story: Solomon asks for wisdom and the story of the baby and the two prostitutes (1 Kings 3:5-28) Items required: Photo copy of picture per child, house per child, glue, crayons Activity: The children will each be given a picture of The wise and foolish builder. Grade 0-1 Week 4 Love your enemies Memory verse: Don t forget my teachings, keep them in your heart, and you will live a long life (Proverbs 3:1-2). Bottom line: Love your neighbour and your enemies Bible Teaching: Matthew 5:38-48 (eye for eye, love your enemies) Bible Story: Paul s plea for Onesimus (Philemon) Items required: Photo copy of picture, crayons Activity: Point: showing the love of God. Gather: Paper and a Bible. Go: Have two of your children sit across from one another. Hold a piece of paper vertically between them and have them press their noses to the paper, so the paper is in between their noses. Tell them you will remove the paper so that their noses will be touching. The first one to blink loses. If you have more children, let them play each other until you have a champion. Older children can help referee the matches. Ask: Was it easy not to blink? Why or why not? Share: Sometimes God will ask us to do things for him that feel uncomfortable, like being kind to someone who isn't kind to us. But because we love God, we try to do what he asks us to do, like Jesus did. Read: Romans 12:19-21 and ask: What does God tell us about those who wrong us? How should we treat them? Share: God shows his love to others through the kind things we do for them. It's a tremendous honour to be the messengers of God's love here on earth. Remember: Doing as God asks is not always an easy task. The children will colour in a picture of a boy with his arms open, ready to love. Let the children colour in the picture. 7Day Challenge (Learning to walk with Jesus 7 days a week). Grade 6-7 Week 2 Treasures in heaven Memory verse: Do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity (Proverbs 3:1-2). Grade 6-7 Week 3 Building wisely Memory verse: Do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity (Proverbs 3:1-2). Bottom line: We need God s wisdom to make wise choices Bible Teaching: Wise and foolish builders (Matt 7:24-29) Bible Story: Solomon asks for wisdom and the story of the baby and the two prostitutes (1 Kings 3:5-28) Items required: pack of cards, prestik, sticky tape Activity: Split the girls and boys into groups of about 5. Give each group a pack of cards and get them to build the highest tower they can using the stack of cards. Let it be a competition between the groups to get the spirits going! If it is too difficult provide them with sticky tape or prestik! Then once you have a winner, leave all the towers standing and talk about how we are building in our lives - are we aiming to be the "highest" for Jesus. Then knock one tower over - use this to illustrate that no matter how well we build, if we building on our own, our towers will always fall over. However if we build on Jesus the rock and we let him help us, our towers will stand firm. Ask questions like "how do we build on the rock?", and "what materials are important in our building with Jesus everyday?" 7Day Challenge (Learning to walk with Jesus 7 days a week). Get children to give feedback of specific challenges or testimonies from the previous week, especially from the PreLoad CD (leaders should be familiar with content of the PreLoad CD and what the challenges were). Grade 6-7 Week 4 Love your enemies Memory verse: Do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity (Proverbs 3:1-2). Bottom line: Love your neighbour and your enemies Bible Teaching: Matthew 5:38-48 (eye for eye, love your enemies) Bible Story: Paul s plea for Onesimus (Philemon) Items required: a few pieces of paper; pens (or pencils); hat Activity: Give each child a piece of paper and a pen. Each child must write down one experience in their life where they can remember being bullied or when someone was horrible to them or said something nasty - they must describe what happened. Then get them to fold up their piece of paper and collect them all into a hat. They must be anonymous (otherwise children won t be honest). Then get each child to pick out a scenario and read them out one by one. After each scenario discuss "what would you have done in that situation?" and then "what would Jesus want you to do in that situation?" Talk practically on how you could show love in each scenario, even if you were hurting yourself. 7Day Challenge (Learning to walk with Jesus 7 days a week). Get children to give feedback of specific challenges or testimonies from the previous week, especially from the PreLoad CD (leaders should be familiar with content of the PreLoad CD and what the challenges were). Strongly encourage children to take up the challenge and prayer pointers for this week on the PreLoad CD and to bring and share the testimonies of what God has done in their lives this past week. Go over memory verse with children. Pray with the children.

Grade 6-7 Week 5 Judging others Memory verse: Do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity (Proverbs 3:1-2). Bottom line: Don t judge others Bible teaching: Matthew 7:1-6 (speck and the plank in the eye) Bible Story: Peter and Cornelius (Acts 10:1-11:18) Peter judges the food that the Gentiles ate (in his vision). God showed him to partake and eat meaning he should associate with the gentiles and not judge and be exclusive. Items required: clothes (sports, beggar, clever nerd, rich) Activity: Bring clothes from home and dress 4 people in the group up - one as a sporty person, one as a clever nerd, one as a rich kid and one as a poor beggar. Get them to model into the room one by one and get the rest of the group to guess what they are. Once all 4 models are in the room, ask the group how they knew what type of people they were. Then describe a possible scenario that could be happening in each of the 4 people's lives. Example: the rich kid could have parents who work all the time and so he spends all his time in after-care and wishes his parents just spent some time with him. Leaders should make these up before you come so you can make them applicable. Then talk about how, even though the person looked one way on the outside, we cannot judge people from the way they dress, walk, talk, the colour of their skin or who they hang out with. We never know what is really happening behind the scenes. Challenge each person to try making friends with someone at school that they wouldn't usually, and find out something about them that they don't know. Get the children to give feedback next week. This is a good way of getting children to have an inclusive heart. 7Day Challenge (Learning to walk with Jesus 7 days a week).
