salm salm 124 (antiphon: v. 8) 8 Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth. 1 If it had not been the Lord who was on our side let Israel now say 2 if it had not been the Lord who was on our side when people rose up against us, 3 then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their anger was kindled against us; 4 then the flood would have swept us away, the rrent would have gone over us; 5 then over us would have gone the raging waters. 6 Blessèd be the Lord, who has not given us as prey their teeth! 7 We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped! 8 Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth. Sit Old Testament Reading Job 38:1 11 The Old Testament Reading is from Job, the thirty-eighth chapter. 1 Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said: 2 Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? 3 Dress for action like a man; I will question you, and you make it known me. 4 Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. 5 Who determined its measurements surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? 6 On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornersne, 7 when the morning stars sang gether and all the sons of God shouted for joy? 8 Or who shut in the sea with doors when it burst out from the womb, 9 when I made clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling band, 10 and prescribed limits for it and set bars and doors, 11 and said, Thus far shall you come, and no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stayed? This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be God.
Epistle 2 orinthians 6:1 13 The Epistle is from 2 orinthians, the sixth chapter. 1 Working gether with him, then, we appeal you not receive the grace of God in vain. 2 For he says, In a favorable time I listened you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you. Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. 3 We put no obstacle in anyone s way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, 4 but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: by great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, 5 beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, sleepless nights, hunger; 6 by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love; 7 by truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; 8 through honor and dishonor, through slander and praise. We are treated as imposrs, and yet are true; 9 as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as punished, and yet not killed; 10 as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing everything. 11 We have spoken freely you, orinthians; our heart is wide open. 12 You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted in your own affections. 13 In return (I speak as children) widen your hearts also. This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be God. Holy Gospel Mark 4:35 41 The Holy Gospel according Mark, the fourth chapter. Glory You, O Lord. 35 On that day, when evening had come, [Jesus] said them, Let us go across the other side. 36 And leaving the crowd, they ok him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. 37 And a great windsrm arose, and the waves were breaking in the boat, so that the boat was already filling. 38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said him, Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing? 39 And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said the sea, eace! Be still! And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 He said them, Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith? 41 And they were filled with great fear and said one another, Who then is this, that even wind and sea obey him? This is the Gospel of the Lord. raise You, O hrist. Sit Offering We All Believe in One True God Jacob B. Weber atechetical Reflection: The reed The First Article In the First Article we confess our rear: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. What does this mean? I believe that God has made me and all creatures; that He has given me my body and soul, eyes, ears, and all my members, my reason and all my senses, and still takes care of them. He also gives me clothing and shoes, food and drink, house and home, wife and children, land, animals, and all I have. He richly and daily provides me with all that I need support this body and life. He defends me against all danger and guards and protects me from all evil. All this He does only out of fatherly, divine goodness and mercy, without any merit or worthiness in me. For all this it is my duty thank and praise, serve and obey Him. This is most certainly true.
The Second Article In the Second Article we confess our Redeemer: And in Jesus hrist, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under ontius ilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended in hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended in heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come judge the living and the dead. What does this mean? I believe that Jesus hrist, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the virgin Mary, is my Lord, who has redeemed me, a lost and condemned person, purchased and won me from all sins, from death, and from the power of the devil; not with gold or silver, but with His holy, precious blood and with His innocent suffering and death, that I may be His own and live under Him in His kingdom and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness, just as He is risen from the dead, lives and reigns all eternity. This is most certainly true. The Third Article In the Third Article we confess our sanctification: I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy hristian hurch, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. What does this mean? I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus hrist, my Lord, or come Him; but the Holy Spirit has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith. In the same way He calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole hristian hurch on earth, and keeps it with Jesus hrist in the one true faith. In this hristian hurch He daily and richly forgives all my sins and the sins of all believers. On the Last Day He will raise me and all the dead, and give eternal life me and all believers in hrist. This is most certainly true.
