Zion Lutheran Church Sunday July 16, 2017 Pastor Craig Borchardt presiding Rock Roll N We Prepare for Worship OPENING HYMN Amazing Grace (Tune: I d Like to Teach the World to Sing ) 1) Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found; was blind, but now I see. 2) 'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed! WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS SHARING OF THE PEACE The peace of the Lord be with you always And also with you (Please share the Peace of the Lord with those around you, especially with any worshippers you may not know.) CALL TO WORSHIP You are the Sower, O God; we are the seed. In you, we live and have our being. You are the lover, O God; we are the beloved. In you, we grow into creature more beautiful than all the flowers of the garden. You are the healer, O God; we are the healed. In you, we find all that we need. Come; let us worship our bountiful God. PRAYER OF THE DAY (in unison) God of grace, you have given us minds to know you, hearts to love you, and voices to sing your praise. Fill us with your spirit that we may celebrate your glory and truly worship you; through Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. Amen. REPRISE Amazing Grace (Tune: I d Like to Teach the World to Sing ) 3) Through many dangers, toils, and snares I have already come; 'Tis grace has brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home. 4) When we ve been there ten thousand year, bright shining as the sun; We ve no less days to sing God s praise, than when we first begun

CHILDREN S MESSAGE We Hear God s Word The First Reading Isaiah 55:10-13 This is the Word of the Lord The Second Reading Romans 8:1-11 This is the Word of the Lord Thanks be to God! Thanks be to God! The Gospel Reading Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23 This is the Word of the Lord Thanks be to God! MESSAGE Pastor Craig Borchardt We Respond to God s Grace SONG OF THE DAY What A Friend We Have In Jesus (To the tune: The Rose ) 1) What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry ev'rything to God in prayer! Oh, what peace we often forfeit; Oh, what needless pain we bear All because we do not carry ev'rything to God in prayer! 2) Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our ev'ry weakness take it to the Lord in prayer. 3) Are we weak and heavyladen, cumbered with a load of care? Precious Savior, still our refuge take it to the Lord in prayer. Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer. In His arms He'll take and shield thee, thou wilt find a solace there. AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (in unison) I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen THE OFFERING Special music by the Zion Worship Team (The Noisy Offerings in July will be donated to Burton Bridge Ministry for the purchase of back to school supplies)

OFFERTORY RESPONSE Put A Little Love In Your Heart 1) Think of your fellow man, lend them a helping hand. Put a little love in your heart. You see, it s getting late, oh, please don t hesitate, Put a little love in your heart. (Chorus) And the world will be a better place. And the world will be a better place for you and me. You just wait and see. Put a little love in your heart. Put a little love in your heart. Put a little love in our heart. Put a little love in your heart. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great. We Share in Christ s Meal WORDS OF CONSECRATION THE LORD S PRAYER (in unison) Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen DISTRIBUTION OF HOLY COMMUNION (All who believe that Christ died for their sins are welcome at the Table of Grace. Children who do not yet receive Communion receive a blessing. If you prefer grape juice, it is the clear liquid in the center of the tray.) Put Your Hand In the Hand (Chorus) Put your hand in the hand of the Man who stilled the water, Put your hand in the hand of the Man who calmed the sea. Take a look at yourself and you can look at others differently, by puttin your hand in the hand of the Man from Galilee. 1) Every time I look into the Holy Book I wanna tremble. When I read about the part where a Carpenter cleared the temple; for the buyers and the sellers were no different fellers than what I profess to be, And it causes me shame to know I m not the man that I should be! (Chorus) 2) Mama taught me how to pray before I reached the age of seven, When I m down on my knees, that s when I m close to heaven; Daddy lived his life for eight kids and a wife, you do what you must do, but he showed me enough of what it takes to get you through. (Chorus) In Christ There Is No East or West (To the tune: House of the Rising Sun ) 1) In Christ there is no east or west, In Him no south or north, But one great fellowship of love Throughout the whole wide earth. 2) In Him shall true hearts ev rywhere Their high communion find; His service is the golden cord Close binding all mankind. 3) Join hands then brothers of the faith, Whatev er your race may be, Who serves my Father as a son Is surely kin to me. 4) In Christ now meet both east and west, In Him meet south and north; All Christly souls are one in Him Throughout the whole wide earth.

Turn, Turn, Turn (Chorus) To everything--turn, turn, turn; There is a season--turn, turn, turn And a time to every purpose under heaven. 1) A time to be born, a time to die, A time to plant, a time to reap, A time to kill, a time to heal, A time to laugh, a time to weep (Chorus) 2) A time to build up, a time to break down, A time to dance, a time to mourn, A time to cast away stones, A time to gather stones together. (Chorus) 3) A time to love, a time to hate, A time of war, a time of peace, A time you may embrace, A time to refrain from embracing. (Chorus) 4) A time to gain, a time to lose, A time to rend, a time to sew, A time of love, a time of hate, A time of peace, I swear it s not too late. (Chorus) COMMUNION BLESSING We Depart with Joy THE BENEDICTION (Sunday school students and teachers are dismissed to Sunday school during the sending song) SENDING SONG Lord, I Lift Your Name On High 1) Lord, I lift your name on high Lord, I love to sing your praises. I'm so glad you're in my life I'm so glad you came to save us. (Chorus) You came from heaven to earth to show the way. From the earth to the cross my debt to pay. From the cross to the grave from the grave to the sky; Lord, I lift your name on high. SENDING Grounded in faith Gathered in love Engaging the world with God s amazing grace Thanks be to God.
