Children s Sermon THE WORD Kids Word (10am) - Kids approx. ages 4-8 can go and hear the Word through story, crafts & games. Please meet in back of sanctuary. Children return after sermon. Reading Psalm 1 1Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers; 2but their delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law they meditate day and night. 3They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper. 4The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. 5Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; 6for the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. R: The Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. (Please stand as you are able for the Gospel acclamation) 4
Gospel Acclamation (from John 6:68) R: The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark, the 2 nd and 3 rd Chapter. C: Glory to you, O Lord Gospel Mark 2:23-28, 3:1-5 23One sabbath he was going through the grainfields; and as they made their way his disciples began to pluck heads of grain. 24 The Pharisees said to him, "Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the sabbath?" 25 And he said to them, "Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need of food? 26 He entered the house of God, when Abiathar was high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and he gave some to his companions." 27 Then he said to them, "The sabbath was made for humankind, and not humankind for the sabbath; 28 so the Son of Man is lord even of the sabbath." 1Again he entered the synagogue, and a man was there who had a withered hand. 2 They watched him to see whether he would cure him on the sabbath, so that they might accuse him. 3 And he said to the man who had the withered hand, "Come forward." 4 Then he said to them, "Is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the sabbath, to save life or to kill?" But they were silent. 5 He looked around at them with anger; he was grieved at their hardness of heart and said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and his hand was restored. R: The Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you, O Christ. (Please be seated) 5

Rite of Holy Baptism (11am) Apostles Creed (8am) I believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. At SLC, we commune by Intinction. As you are ushered forward, please come to the stations on either side of the Baptismal font, extend your hand to receive the bread (or ask for a gluten free wafer), and then dip it either into the wine or grape juice. White grape juice is available as a substitute and is offered in the second cup. You are also invited to remain at the altar rail for a brief time of prayer and meditation if you wish.
