Who should commune at the Altar of Glory of Christ Lutheran Church? According to the Scriptures and the Confessional statements of the church only those should commune who have been examined and absolved by the pastor. If you wish to commune at Glory of Christ for the first time, please talk to the Pastor before doing so. Holy Communion is the most intimate expression of Christian fellowship and it is important to the members of Glory of Christ Lutheran Church that all who commune have a common understanding and commitment to the Gospel teachings of the Bible.
Altar Flower Chart: The cost of the Altar flowers is $40 per Sunday and you will be able to take your flowers home with you after the service in a box located on the kitchen counter. In order to have your payment for flowers applied correctly, please use one of the Designated Offering envelopes found in your box of envelopes or label the outside of one of your regular envelopes with the words Altar flowers. Janice Hartness is our flower coordinator. If you have any special requests, please contact her at 763-355-5427 by the Wednesday prior. Northwest Suburban Circuit Congregation Prayers Each week we will be praying for a congregation in the circuit and for others who have or have had a connection with them. This week, we are asking for prayers for Rev. John Fehrmann and his work with Confessional Lutheran Educational Foundation (CLEF) in other nations. Please bring your own lunch. February Compassion Circle Meeting: Compassion Circle will be meeting on Monday February 13 th at 1:00. They will be making Valentine bags for Trinity First Lutheran School. VBS 2017: You have received an email about Creation Station: A Hands-On Journey. You have read about it in the newsletter. You have seen the table in Narthex. Is Creation Stations on your calendar? March 11! 12:30-5pm (the event runs from 1-4). We need families to participate and volunteers to run the stations! Please plan to attend! SAVE THE DATE! Missions Fest 2017 will be held on Saturday, April 22 nd. The theme this year is a 1950 s Sock Hop! More information to follow, but please place the date for this fun event on your calendars! Sunday Morning Bible Class is continuing with lessons on Colossians. Please join us! Ash Wednesday and the Lenten Season is fast approaching! Ash Wednesday is on March 1 st. Imposition of Ashes at the morning service will begin at 11:15 am and for the evening service, it will begin at 6:45 pm. We will once again have Mid-Week Lenten Services at 11:30 am, with a soup lunch following and a 7:00 pm evening Lenten service every Wednesday through April 5 th. Dinners will be provided by various groups from our congregation each Wednesday evening beginning at 6:00 pm. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services will be on April 13 th and 14 th at 7:00 pm with two Easter services at 8:00 am and 10:30 am on Sunday, April 16 th. Elders will once again serve a wonderful Easter breakfast between the services that morning. Please plan to join us! Next Youth Group Event - Sunday, February 19th. After lunch and devotions, the Youth Group is going to volunteer at Bethesda Thrift Store. We will lend a helping hand to this LCMS recognized organization which serves people with developmental disabilities. At Glory of Christ the pastor typically makes announcements after the service. So the service just startss at the appropriate time without a specific welcome. (The welcome actually occurs in the service itself when the pastor says The Lord be with you and the congregation responds.) To follow the service you should turn to the page indicated at the top of your bulletin insert. This week the page is 167. Usually we simply work through the service interrupting the process for the singing of hymns, certain prayers and the scripture readings. The prayers are usually printed in the service folder as are the Scripture readings. Hymns are found in the latter half of the Service book. If you are having trouble following the service you can ask someone nearby and they will help you. You can also comfort yourself with the knowledge that almost everyone has a little trouble following the service the first time through. It gets easier.
