Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 22, 2018 So, Living the Word this week means taking some much needed time AWAY. Yes, a retreat from the daily endeavors of what it means to be a missionary disciple, because that is who we are, missionary disciples and as missionary disciples are always on the job! The apostles gathered with Jesus and reported all that they had done! They re thrilled at how others have responded to their efforts and they tell the Master all about it. To honor their efforts, Jesus takes them AWAY, because they were obviously exhausted and in that away place, they are strengthened in their efforts as they re-wind their minds, hearts and spirits. And as Jesus tells them about getting away and resting, the crowds follow them and meet them in their away place and true to his mission, Jesus compassion and gentleness and mercy come forth and he responds to the needs of the crowds who desperately need a shepherd! So live the life of a missionary disciple and be present to others and respond to their needs with gentleness, compassion and mercy AND at the same time, be AWAY and refresh yourselves in the Lord! Good words this week! DID YOU KNOW it is CHRISTMAS IN JULY? Of course you did because you saw the Tree and Truck in the yard! Now, missionary disciples FILL IT with: First Aid Supplies, Food Supplies, and Personal Hygiene Supplies! Our brothers and sisters in THIS COMMUNITY need your kindness in this way. SO, FILL THE TRUCK this weekend only from 3:30pm Saturday until 1pm Sunday! And don t forget the Summer Lunch Program NEEDS as well. Boxes are in the Mother Teresa Vestibule for snack size chips, peanut butter, fruit cups, and juice boxes for your kindness to feed the children. This is ANOTHER INVITATION to those families who have a Mass scheduled for their loved ones. If you are present for the weekend Mass, PLEASE let the Ushers KNOW in advance that you are at Mass AND willing to take up the Offertory Gifts in honor of your loved ones! It s a great honor and a privilege for Fr. Mike and me to offer a word of kindness for your family! Stop and see the Usher BEFORE MASS. THANKS! Anyone UP FOR A TRIP TO IRELAND? The Brochures are in the back lobby with all the amazing details of a trip around the Isle, from Dublin, through Belfast, to Galway and Killarney and back to Dublin. 10 days of pews that means churches and abbeys and religious sites AND the every present pubs! Take in the Lord and a pint of Guinness for grace. Sign up www.magitravelinc.com. Many THANKS for your continued generosity in the Sunday collection! Grateful Living! Father John

Meet with us at 12:30pm to explore a type of prayer that allows us to listen to what God may be asking of us. Richard Rohr helps us to make our prayer more meaningful. Mother Teresa Be true Co-Workers of Christ. Radiate and live His life. Be an angel of comfort to the sick, a friend to the little ones, and love each other as God loves each one of you with a special, most intense love. Be kind to each other in your homes. Be kind to those who surround you. I prefer that you make mistakes in kindness rather than that you work miracles in unkindness. Often just one work, one look, one quick action, and darkness fills the heart of the one we love. Excerpted from: Love: A Fruit Always in Season Daily Meditations by Mother Teresa (Ignatius Press 1987) Family Perspective Pattern your family life after that of Jesus and the apostles. They took time out to go to a deserted place and rest with Jesus. Renewed, they were able to attend to the multitudes who came looking for Jesus. The Christian life has a rhythm alternating between activity and rest & prayer. Be sure to find time for rest and renewal. Good, classic hymns that have stood the test of time are, as I consider, one of the best examples of praise in action. The texts are relevant, and yet reverent. The melodies are beautiful and carry us into a prayerful environment. These composers, who are some of the most renowned of this time, have dedicated their lives to continuing the excellence of Catholic music. I honestly believe that the four composers of these hymns (Bob Hurd, Christopher Walker, Michael Joncas, and John D. Becker) will be the next J.S. Bachs and G.F. Handels that we read about in our history books. Just like the well-known composers of the past, these current musicians are, still, only human. They have jobs and lives and family and friends that they keep up with; bills to pay and relationships to bolster. Amid all this, they have offered up their God-given talent to participate in the faith. We all have a God-given talent. It may not be music; it might be knitting, or fishing, or just being a patient ear to someone who needs help! These gifts are our chance to spread our faith to the world in our own special ways. What is your gift, and how will you share it with others? Traditional Choir, Contemporary Choir, and Youth Choir are off for the summer. All choir members are welcome to sing up in the loft during weekend masses. Summer is a perfect time to audition for involvement in one of our ensembles, especially for prelude solos! If you are interested in participating in any of these choirs, cantoring, or playing an instrument during mass, please call or see me after mass up in the loft. Please contact the music ministry office for more information: 440.243.3877 ext 27.
