2018 SECOND (2 nd ) QUARTER CONTRIBUTION STATEMENTS EMAILED/MAILED 2 nd Quarter 2018 (April-June) Contribution statements were emailed/mailed to all parishioners the week ending July 7th. Please review these statements carefully. If you see any discrepancies or have any questions, please contact our bookkeeper, Robin Miller, at 770-799-6462 or bookkeeper@ccnorcross.org. EXCITING THRIFT SHOP NEWS! Have you ever wanted to purchase something from the Thrift Shop, but didn t have enough cash or your checkbook? Well, guess what? We have moved into the 21st century and as of July 10, 2018, we are now accepting all major credit and debit cards for your purchases. So, stop by the shop and help us increase our sales. As a reminder every Wednesday is Senior Citizen Discount Day, which means anyone 55 years and older receive a 15% discount on everything they purchase. Remember, Thrift Shop Volunteers are always needed and they are prayed for each week as part of the Prayers of the People. For more information about this important ministry, please contact Rosa Hernandez at thriftshop@ccnorcross.org, or call the church office. BOOK BAGS FOR OUR CONGREGATION Many of the children in our Hispanic Congregation could use some help before school starts. Just sign up to help one or more students by purchasing a book bag and supplies. We will be giving out the names on July 8 th and 15 th. Book bags and supplies need to be delivered to the church by Sunday, July 29th. The bags can be placed in the breezeway or left at the church office. The student s name, grade, and school will be given along with a list of supplies for the grade of your student. Instead of using the list given, you can find the school list at most stores in the Norcross area. Then attach the name to the book bag and bring it to church. Remember, these children are members of Christ Church and they need our help. Please join in this effort. If you will not be in church on the dates we are giving out names and you would like to participate, please email, call, or text me. We will also be taking extra school supplies. Last year I took all of the extra supplies and gave them out in January. The students were able to start the new semester with supplies. Nicki DeVillier, 404-626-7141 or devillier44@bellsouth.net

ARE YOU A SCHOOL TEACHER! LET CCE HELP YOU START YOUR YEAR! If you are a school teacher, please submit your name to Deborah Fuller at deborahfuller2016@gmail.com and bring your classroom needs to her attention. We have several school teachers who are members of Christ Church and they can use our help. There are many items that they purchase for their rooms that come out of their own pockets. We will have a list of our school teachers, and a list of items that they can use in their classroom. Some of these items might be tissues, notebook paper, copier paper, and other items that they will list. Look for their profiles, which will be highlighted in the next couple of weeks. CCPs TO PRESENT SMOKE ON THE MOUNTAIN! The CCPs present our ninth annual summer show in honor of the 40th anniversary of Christ Church. Join the Christ Church Players on August 24/25th at 7:00pm as we present the smash-hit bluegrass musical Smoke on the Mountain! For two nights only, we will transform the CCE nave and Parish Hall into the sanctuary and Fellowship Hall of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, and YOU, the audience, are all members! The year is 1938. Your pastor, Reverend Mervin Oglethorpe (Brook Sizemore), has enlisted the Sanders Family Singers in an attempt to bring your little mountain church into the modern world. This is the Sanderses first performance after a five-year hiatus, and they just couldn t be more tickled to be with you, the good people of Mount Pleasant. Between rousing Gospel numbers that range from the sublime to the downright silly, each member of this quirky family will share his/her witness. Though the Sanderses try to present a perfect picture, one thing after another goes terribly awry and they uncover their true - and hilariously imperfect - natures. By the evening s end, the Sanders Family will endear themselves to us by revealing their weaknesses and allowing us to share in their triumphs. Join the Christ Church Players and the Sanders Family Singers on August 24/25 for gelatin salad, punch, pickles, and some newfangled old-time religion! And hey - bring some friends and let us show them how we do church! Tickets available on Sunday mornings, or through the church office. Contact Jenn Jordan (sopranojjordan@gmail.com) for info on group discounts.

MEMORIAL & BURIAL SERVICE FOR OUR BELOVED CHURCH CAT: MR. MAN a/k/a SWEET BOY We will have a brief memorial and burial service for our beloved church cat, Mr. Man, a/k/a Sweet Boy or Schweet Boy, at 9:15am on Sunday, August 5, 2018, near the old oak tree across from the Memorial Garden. As most of you know, Mr. Man died peacefully on Sunday afternoon, June 17, surrounded by some of our clergy, staff, and parishioners. We are grateful for his good, long life and the joy he brought to so many who crossed our threshold at the office and the Thrift Shop. Be sure to read the article in the August Communique. MISSION OF MERCY FOR JULY The Mission of Mercy provides funds for the Hispanic Associate Rector's Discretionary Fund. This fund, which is distributed confidentially, provides assistance to those who need help with rent, utilities, medical payments, and other necessities. The generosity of the parish enables clergy to respond with Christ's love to those in need. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT DONATIONS FOR SUNDAY FLOWERS How much do flowers cost each Sunday? It costs a minimum of $50 to purchase flowers for the altar each Sunday, which is the recommended donation. I would like to give flowers to honor a loved one, but I cannot afford that amount of money. Am I out of luck? No, we recognize that a gift of $50 may not be possible for everyone. If you want to dedicate flowers to someone, but are concerned about making a donation, please contact Beth Holland in the office so that a dedication for a lesser amount can be arranged. How far in advance must I make my donation? Please submit your donation at least one week prior to the date you would like to dedicate the flowers. This will give the church staff time to ensure your dedication is in the weekly bulletin. How do I make a donation and memorial? You may sign the chart in the narthex or call the church office. You may also place an envelope with a check in the Sunday offering plate at least one week in advance of your donation date.
