Rev 18:14 And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all. All things which were dainty and goodly. DAINTY appears 3x (v.14; Job 33:20; Pro 23:6) and DAINTIES appears 3x (Gen 49:20; Psa 141:4; Pro 23:3) and both are associated with MEAT and BREAD, and a ruler who has an evil eye (i.e.- the Antichrist) cf. (Zec 11:17) DAINTY= nice; delicate; delicious; pleasing; elegant; soft; pure; neat; effeminately beautiful GOODLY appears 33x and is associated with a BABYLONISH GARMENT Jos 7:21 When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it. GOODLY= Being of a handsome form; beautiful; graceful; pleasant; agreeable; desirable; excellent
No more at all. First appearance of NO MORE AT ALL; appears 6x, all in Revelation 18 (v. 14,21-23) WHAT SHALL BE NO MORE AT ALL 1) The dainty and goodly things of Babylon the great (v.14) 2) That great city Babylon (the great) (v.21) 3) The voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters in Babylon the great (v.22) 4) The sound of a millstone in Babylon the great (v.22) 5) The light of a candle in Babylon the great (v.23) 6) The voice of the bridegroom and of the bride in Babylon the great (v.23) In addition, no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in Babylon the great (v.22).
Rev 18:15 The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, The merchants of these things. MERCHANTS appears 29x; 4x in Revelation 18 (v.3,11,15,23) Which were made rich by her. The merchants of the earth were made RICH by Babylon the great (v.3) just as the kings of the earth lived DELICIOUSLY with her (v.9)- the perverted relationship was mutually profitable and beneficial Shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment. AFAR OFF appears 48x (Gen 22:4 note) The merchants of the earth STAND AFAR OFF for the FEAR of HER TORMENT just like the kings of the earth (v.10 note) Weeping and wailing. WEEPING AND WAILING appears 3x (v.15,19; Jer 9:10) and all are the result of BURNING
The merchants WAIL over the judgment of Babylon the great just as the kings of the earth BEWAIL her (v.9), and they WEEP AND WAIL over her judgment just as the shipmasters do (v.19) The merchants are not weeping over the destruction of Babylon the great because they loved her, but because they loved her MONEY (v.11; 1 Tim 6:9-10) The crying over the fall of Babylon the great is typified by the reaction to the fall of ancient Babylon Jer 50:46 At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations. The words WEEPING and WAILING are associated with eternal judgment in HELL (Matt 8:12; 13:42,50; 22:13; 24:51; 25:30; Luke 13:28) just as the words SMOKE (v.9,18), BURNING (v.9,18), and TORMENT (v.10,15) The judgment of Babylon the great appears to be that she will be literally turned into hell cf. (Psa 9:17)
Rev 18:16 And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls! Alas, alas. ALAS, ALAS appears 3x and all are in Revelation 18 (v.10 note,16,19) That great city. THAT GREAT CITY appears 10x (v.10,16,19,21; 14:8; 17:18; 21:10; Jon 1:2; 3:2; 4:11); 6x in reference to BABYLON THE GREAT (v.10,16,19,21; 14:8; 17:18) That was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet. FINE LINEN represents the RIGHTEOUSNESS OF SAINTS (19:8), so Babylon the great has clothed herself to appear as the true CHURCH of Jesus Christ when, in fact, she is the ANTI-CHURCH The STRANGE WOMAN (a type of Babylon the great) has fine linen OF EGYPT (a type of the WORLD) that she uses to entice those void of understanding (Pro 7:16) Purple and scarlet are the colors of ROME; with PURPLE representing ROYALTY, and SCARLET representing RICHES and SIN (17:4 note)
And decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls. The description in verse 16 equates THAT GREAT CITY (v.10,16,19,21) called BABYLON (THE GREAT) (v.2,10,21) in Revelation 18 with THAT GREAT CITY (17:18) called BABYLON THE GREAT (17:5) in Revelation 17- they are one and the same Rev 17:4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: In Revelation 17, it is THE WOMAN (the Roman system) that is decked with gold, precious stones, and pearls but in Revelation 18, it is THAT GREAT CITY (the Roman city) Since the city of Rome is THAT GREAT CITY and is decked with GOLD, PRECIOUS STONES, and PEARLS it is also a counterfeit of the holy city, New Jerusalem, which is called THAT GREAT CITY (21:10) and is made up of GOLD (21:18,21), PRECIOUS STONES (21:11,19-20), and PEARLS (21:21)
Rev 21:10,18-21 10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, 18 And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass. 19 And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; 20 The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst. 21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.
Rev 18:17 For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off, In one hour. IN ONE HOUR appears 3x, and all are in Revelation 18 (v.10,17,19) WHAT HAPPENS TO BABYLON THE GREAT IN ONE HOUR 1) Her judgment comes in one hour (v.10) 2) Her great riches come to nought in one hour (v.17) 3) She is made desolate in one hour (v.19) So great riches is come to nought. The riches of the Vatican are incalculable but all will be burned in one hour (17:16 note) Every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors. The maritime terms SHIPMASTER, SHIPS, and SAILORS appear 4x in Revelation 18 (v.17,19) and indicate that maritime commerce will still be conducted in at least the first half of the Tribulation
These terms are used to support the view that Babylon the great must be a SEAPORT city like New York City and therefore cannot be Rome The text does not state that Babylon the great IS a seaport city, but it must be NEAR the sea in order for those who have ships to be made rich by her (v.19) and for those at sea to be able to see the smoke of her burning AFAR OFF (v. 17-18) The city limits of Rome are located just 15 miles from the Tyrrhenian sea coast Rome is also the center of the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, formerly called the Province of Rome The jurisdiction of the Metropolitan City of Rome extends to the Tyrrhenian sea coast just as the jurisdiction of the Papal states did from the 8th century to 1870 The Tyrrhenian sea port city of Civitavecchia, Italy is often referred to as the port of Rome because of its proximity to Rome (37 miles) Could those on ships in the Tyrrhenian sea standing afar off see the smoke of Rome s burning if the Lord utterly burned her with fire? Yes Is it possible that the changes that will come to the world as a result of the Rapture and divine judgments could result in Rome becoming the maritime hub of the world in the Tribulation? Yes
