Bible Story: The Three Wise Men Today s story happened after Jesus was born, probably when he was just about two years old. About this time, some very smart men known as wise men started to look for Jesus. Listen to the story to hear how they learned about Jesus, his birth, and what they did for Jesus! The wise men lived far away. One of the things they liked to do was study the stars in the sky. One night, they saw something very, very special in the sky. They pointed to the sky. They were so excited! They saw a very special star, and they knew it meant that a new baby king was to be born. They knew that this baby king was God. The wise men decided to go to him and worship him. They said, Let s follow that star and find the new baby king! They packed their things, and each wise man took a very expensive gift for the baby king. They took spices and expensive gold. When the wise men were ready for their very long trip, off they went. Finally they came to Jerusalem, where King Herod lived. The wise men asked the king, Where is the baby king who was born? We saw his star, and we ve followed it here. King Herod was angry when he heard that a new baby king had been born. King Herod thought that when the baby grew up, the baby would want to be king and would take his job. He didn t like that thought at all! So King Herod asked the chief priests and teachers if they knew where the baby king was to be born. The chief priests and teachers said, In Bethlehem. Well, King Herod called the wise men to him and said, When you find the baby king, come back and tell me so I can go worship him, too. The wise men followed the star to Bethlehem. The star popped over the house where Mary, Joseph, and Jesus lived. When they saw Jesus, the wise men bowed down and worshipped him. They gave him the present they brought. When it was time for the wise men to go home, God warned them in a dream not to go back to King Herod. So the wise men went home a different way. They brought some very special gifts for baby Jesus. Two of the wise men brought very wonderful-smelling gifts. The other wise man brought sparkling gold for Jesus. The wise men worshiped Jesus. Ask: What are some ways we can worship Jesus? (By singing to Jesus; by bowing down to Jesus; by saying good things about Jesus). God sees our actions and knows how we feel. God is pleased when we choose to worship him.
