Office - 5010 Barrowe Dr., Tampa, FL 33624 813-389-4432 www.mahamevnawaflorida.org email: info@mahamevnawaflorida.org January 08 th, 2014 The proposal for Mahamevnawa Meditation Monastery Florida Dear Sir or Madame: Our Vision: Mahamevnawa Meditation Monastery Florida Inc is dedicated to the practice and teaching of Buddha Gotama known as Theravada Buddhism. It is our mission to advance his teachings of generosity, morality, and meditation, and to enhance the spiritual life of our members and the general public through cultivating friendship, compassion, and wisdom. The services of this organization are open to any member of the public interested in learning and practicing Theravada Buddhism, and it is always free of charge. Our motive is help individuals of all ethnic and religious backgrounds to find peace and mental calmness through concentration and mindfulness, and to promote the study and application of insight meditation (Vipassana), which will ultimately lead to the attainment of Nirvana. What is MMMF: MMMF is a branch of Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery of Sri Lanka and it is following their guidelines. The monastery s current address is Waduwawa, Yatigaloluwa, Polgahawela, Sri Lanka. It is MMMF s long term plan to establish a Buddhist monastery according to the Sri Lankan forest monk tradition in an area conducive to meditation, and to invite Dhamma- and Vinaya-practicing monks to reside at our branch to support them in their efforts to study, teach, and apply the Buddha s teachings, and to share their inspiration, knowledge, and wisdom with the general public in Florida. What MMMF has done and what is doing? Since its very beginning, MMMF has organized monthly Meditation programs and retreats around Florida for the sake of everyone who is interested in Buddhist practice. We have organized special mindfulness programs for children, too. MMMF is trying to help the people of every nation to practice Dhamma. At the current time, MMMF is conducting more than 20 weekly and monthly programs around Florida. Occasionally MMMF s monks visit other states to conduct retreat programs. MMMF has given lectures at several universities in the US. MMMF s current programs:- Every Sunday morning - Insight Meditation Class. Every Tuesday evening - Buddhist Recovery Group. Every Thursday - The Wisdom of the Suttas. Every third, Saturday - Monthly Sil program for Sinhalese. Every first Sunday evening - the Youth Program. We offer programs now in Tampa, Sarasota, Naples, Miami and Gainesville. Prison Programs. When invited, MMMF offers lectures at universities.

Needs/Problems: At the moment, MMMF is providing its services in a small rental home with one resident monk. Because our group is growing, it needs a larger venue to broaden its services. In the future we may have additional welleducated and disciplined monks. Goals/Objectives: Our main goal now is to buy a property with a house. So we can expand our service. Our target price is $130,000 How can we reach our goal? There are two options to reach to this goal. 1. Raise money for the total cost of the property. 2. Raise money for a good down-payment and take out a mortgage loan. Difficulties of these options:- Option one If we have available the total cost of the property, there are no difficulties. We can make an offer and buy it. Option two A mortgage loan. MMMF does not yet have three years credit history. It cannot obtain a mortgage loan under its name. If we can find one individual or several individuals who are financially healthy, then we can get a loan and buy the property under their names. They will act as guarantors for the loan. In order to find guarantors we must establish that we are strong enough to pay the mortgage. We have to keep monthly payment for the mortgage, including tax and insurance, below $1500. If we can put together a down-payment of at least $30,000, we will be able to keep the monthly payment below the $1000, including tax and insurance. See the attachment.

Loan closing cost might be between $6,000 and $10,000. So our target should be between $30,000 and $40,000. If there are any repairs needed on the house, Hayner Home Service, LLC. (http://haynerhomeservices.com ) has volunteered to do them for us. The owner of this company is our Treasurer, and the corresponding secretary of our organization. Monthly mortgage payment: Monthly mortgage payments can be shared by a group of people who have signed up for it. In this way, we can manage our expenses very easily. Our current resources: A. Our Members B. Financial resources a) Our saving account - $4000 b) Pledges From people - $11000 Total = $ 15,000 Procedures: When we have a down-payment and one person or several people who are willing to buy the property we can start. Giving is good, dear sir! Even when there's next to nothing, giving is good. Giving with conviction is good! The giving of what's righteously gained is good! And further: Giving with discretion is good! It's praised by the One Well-gone: giving with discretion, to those worthy of offerings here in the world of the living. What's given to them bears great fruit like seeds sown in a good field. SN 1.33
