During this season of repentance, make it a priority to go to confession. Fr. Nick will be available one hour before the weekday services for confession. If these times do not work for you, please schedule an appointment with him for confession as you would the rest of the year. Our Parish has teamed up with Royal Oak Recycling to help take care of our environment and our church. For every ton of paper that we collect, Royal Oak Recycling will give us $30.00. We will be keeping the earth green and saving green for our church! Please collect your paper products from home and place them in the recycling bin in the corner of the church parking lot. For a list of acceptable items, please see Fr. Nick. Beginning in February, Fr. Nick will be holding adult catechism classes at the church. Classes will be open to the public. Classes are every Monday at 7:00 PM. Please bring your friends, neighbors and yourselves to learn more about the Orthodox Faith!

This is the third official announcement for the annual parish meeting to be held March 12 following Divine Liturgy. Online Registration for Camp Nazareth begins March 1! To Ponder The Church, through the temple and Divine service, acts upon the entire man, educates him wholly; acts upon his sight, hearing, smelling, feeling, taste, imagination, mind, and will, by the splendour of the icons and of the whole temple, by the ringing of bells, by the singing of the choir, by the fragrance of the incense, the kissing of the Gospel, of the cross and the holy icons, by the prosphoras, the singing, and sweet sound of the readings of the Scriptures. St. John of Kronstadt

Possibly a contentious unbeliever will maintain that we worshiping images in our churches are convicted of praying to lifeless idols. Far be it from us to do this. Faith makes Christians, and God, who cannot deceive, works miracles. We do not rest contented with mere colouring. With the material picture before our eyes we see the invisible God through the visible representation, and glorify Him as if present, not as a God without reality, but as a God who is the essence of being. Nor are the saints whom we glorify fictitious. They are in being, and are living with God; and their spirits being holy, the help, by the power of God, those who deserve and need their assistance. St. John of Damascus

19 Things to Give Up for Lent That Aren t Chocolate Adapted and compiled by Monsignor Keith Derouen from an article by Rev. Phil Ressler 1) Fear: God is on my side. In Him I am more than a conqueror. (See Romans 98) 2) The need to please everyone: I can t please everyone anyway. There is only one I need to strive to please. 3) Envy: I am blessed. My value is not found in my possessions, but in my relationship with my Heavenly Father. 4) Impatience: God s timing is the perfect timing. 5) Sense of entitlement: The world does not owe me anything. God does not owe me anything. I live in humility and grace. 6) Bitterness and Resentment: The only person I am hurting by holding onto these is myself. 7) Blame: I am not going to pass the buck. I will take responsibility for my actions. 8) Gossip and Negativity: I will put the best construction on everything when it comes to other people. I will also minimize my contact with people who are negative and toxic and bring other people down. 9) Comparison:I have my own unique contribution to make and there is no one else like me. 10) Fear of failure: You don t succeed without experiencing failure. Just make sure you fall forward. 11) A spirit of poverty: Believe with God that there is always more than enough and never a lack. 12) Feelings of unworthiness: You are fearfully and wonderfully made by your creator. (see Psalm 139)

13) Doubt: Believe God has a plan for you that is beyond anything you could imagine. The future is brighter than you could ever realize. 14) Self-pity: God comforts us in our sorrow so that we can comfort others with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. 15) Retirement: As long as you are still breathing, you are here for a reason. You have a purpose to influence others for Christ. That does not come to an end until the day we die. 16) Excuses: A wise man once said, if you need an excuse, any excuse will do. 17) Lack of counsel: Wise decisions are rarely made in a vacuum. 18) Pride: Blessed are the humble. 19) Worry: God is in control and worrying will not help.
