ST HELEN CHURCH RIVERSIDE, OHIO July 15, 2018 RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS: THE BODY OF CHRIST IS STRONG AND BIGGER THAN BUILDINGS AND DENOMINATIONS Two weeks ago, Fr. Dave sent an email to the parish office letting us know that he had received a card from the Beaver United Church of Christ. It was signed by about 30 people, along with the pastor. A note clipped to the card said, The Saint Helen priest is seriously ill. Fr. Dave was so touched by this as were we. Our first thought was the phrase from a song: how beautiful, how beautiful, how beautiful is the body of Christ. These dear people reached out in such love, and their goodness is a challenge to all of us to think outside the box, to think outside of our comfort zone and familiar surroundings and spread the joy of the Lord. Thank you to all of our brothers and sisters at the Beaver United Church of Christ! You are all in our hearts and prayers. ST HELEN CHURCH RIVERSIDE, OHIO July 15, 2018 MEET THE FOUNDER OF THE WORLD CUP: If you are like me, I have religiously been following the World Cup. But did you know the World Cup was founded by a Catholic? Jules Rimet was born on October 14th, 1873 in Eastern France. Growing up Catholic in a low income family influenced his inclusive worldview. Rimet also loved sports and was a firm believer that it could unite people across race and class. At the age of 24, he founded a sports club called Red Star, which was open to anyone regardless of class. He insisted that the club included soccer, even though he didn t play himself and at the time the sport was looked down on as being for only Englishmen and the lower class. In 1904, Rimet helped to found the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (International Federation of Association Football, or FIFA). He was president of FIFA from 1921-1954, helping begin the first World Cup in 1930. He was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize the same year he died in 1956. As you watch the World Cup Final this Sunday ask yourself: How will you use your gifts and passions to build the Kingdom of God? CREDIT UNION NEWS With member-voted approval for the merger of the St. Helen Federal Credit Union with the Dayton Firefighters Credit Union, we will slowly transition our products and services to match with the full service offerings of the DFFCU over the next several weeks You will continue to receive the same great service from your same credit union staff at our current location here on the St. Helen grounds. If you have been a member of the St. Helen Federal Credit Union at some point during our 62 years, we thank you for the opportunity to work with you in obtaining your financial goals. While change is never easy, we hope to make this transition smooth and beneficial for our members. Amy, Karla, Darcy, and Melanie look forward to assisting with your financial needs as we transition into the St Helen branch of the Dayton Firefighters Federal Credit Union.
