If You Are New to Mount Oak If you are new to Mount Oak we want to welcome you to our church and answer a few basic questions you may have. Who Are We? Mount Oak Fellowship is a Bible-believing Christian church that is open to everyone. We are part of the Baltimore-Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church but also maintain a distinct, evangelical identity. What Do We Believe? We believe that God is real, that the Bible is true and relevant to us today, and that Jesus Christ is the way that God has given us to know Him in this life. We are also a part of the faith tradition of John Wesley who invited people to come to Christ as they were - in the belief that everyone can come to know God and grow in their faith. What Types of Worship Services Do We Offer? Mount Oak offers an early service that worships using a spiritual but traditional format at 8:45 AM. We offer a later service at 10:30 AM that is contemporary in style. We believe that God is present during both. In addition to this, during the school year we offer a Wednesday evening program for all ages which features a fellowship meal and age based studies. Is There A Place For My Child? Yes, your children are welcome to remain with you during either worship service, or to participate in the following ministries that are offered during the 10:30 service: Nursery for birth to 3 years in room 201 (begins at 10:30) Face of Grace: Pre-K to 7 years, Room 106 (begins after the Children s Sermon) Summit Kids: ages 8-11, Kingdom Kids - Room 107 (begins after the Children s Sermon) How Can I Learn More? You can speak to Pastor Barnes directly, email him (pastorbob@mtoak.org), call the church office (301-249-2230), or hang around after the service and speak to one of our regular members. If we can t answer your question we will try to find someone who can!

Church News and Updates LAST WEEK S ATTENDANCE 8:45 Service 10:30 Service Kids (and leaders) Amped Total 50 75 31 43 199 YEAR END FINANCIAL SUMMARY Thanks to everyone s faithful giving and strong December offerings, 2017 ended on a high note. The 2017 budget was $534,000. We received $504,000 and spent $497,000 (a surplus of $7,000). In addition to that the Trustees (who take care of the building) ended the year with $24,000 more in their reserve funds than when the year began. All of that sounds wonderful but it must be balanced against several considerations. We spent less than we budgeted because a) the fact we had several open staff positions for part of the year meant that we spent about $10,000 less on staff than we anticipated and b) the Trustees cancelled a project that would have cost about $25,000. Thus taken on balance, we ended up in the black because a lot of things went well. Had they been different we would have roughly broke even. We thank everyone for their support and encourage everyone to prayerfully consider their giving for 2018. ONLINE GIVING OPTION You may now give financially online. To do so, just go to the church homepage (MtOak.org), and click on the GIVING TO MT OAK FELLOWSHIP button. After doing so you will be guided through the process of giving by credit card, bank transfer, or/and scheduling automatic giving. MOUNT OAK WOMEN S RETREAT March 2-4, 2018 Pecometh Camp http://www.pecometh.org/ 136 Bookers Wharf Road Centreville, MD 21617 Our theme for the weekend is One in the Spirit. Our guest speaker will be JoAnne Alexander, Co-Pastor of Oakland United Methodist Church in Charles Town, WV. JoAnne has pastored at Oakland Church for over 40 years, beginning her ministry in 1977 while a student at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC. A native of Cumberland, Maryland, JoAnne accepted Christ through the leadership of her husband, Kent Tice, during their first year of marriage. They have three grown children and three grandchildren, with another on the way! Together, they have co-pastored and steered the Oakland ship through land purchases, relocations, building a brand new facility, a sanctuary fire and the start of many outreach ministries to the community. Throughout their ministry, Kent and JoAnne have emphasized the importance of discipleship and continually growing as followers of Jesus Christ. Dana Newby and Sharon Branham will be handling registration for the retreat. Please complete the registration form on the back of this flyer. Presently we have accommodations for 36 women, but if more are interested we will check to see if we can get additional accommodations.
