Order of Worship Welcome and greetings Jared Huffman, associate pastor * Call to worship taken from Exodus 15 Leader: I will sing to the LORD, for he is highly exalted. All: The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him. Leader: Who is like you, O LORD? Who is like you majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders? All: In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling. The LORD will reign for ever and ever. * Hymn of praise Our Great God Eternal God, unchanging, mysterious and unknown; your boundless love unfailing, in grace and mercy shown; bright seraphim in endless flight around your glorious throne, they raise their voices day and night in praise to you alone. Refrain: Hallelujah! Glory be to our great God! Hallelujah! Glory be to our great God! Lord, we are weak and frail, helpless in the storm; surround us with your angels, hold us in your arms; our cold and ruthless enemy, his pleasure is our harm, rise up, O Lord, and he will flee before our sovereign God. Refrain Let every creature in the sea and every flying bird; let every mountain, every field and valley of the earth; let all the moons and all the stars in all the universe sing praises to the living God, who rules them by his Word. Refrain words and music Fernando Ortega and Mac Powell 2002 Word Music, LLC, ARR, ICS, UBP, CCLI Lic.#152036 * Prayer of adoration

Come with joy as you actively trust in Christ, willingly forsake sin, and have sought reconciliation in all relationships. Hymn of confession Come, Ye Sinners Come, ye sinners, poor and needy, weak and wounded, sick and sore; Jesus ready stands to save you, full of pity, love and pow r: he is able, he is able, he is willing; doubt no more; he is able, he is able, he is willing; doubt no more. (words continue on following page)

Let not conscience make you linger, nor of fitness fondly dream; all the fitness he requireth is to feel your need of him; this he gives you, this he gives you; tis the Spirit s rising beam; this he gives you, this he gives you; tis the Spirit s rising beam. Come, ye weary, heavy-laden, lost and ruined by the fall; if you tarry till you re better, you will never come at all: not the righteous, not the righteous sinners Jesus came to save; not the righteous, not the righteous sinners Jesus came to save. words by Joseph Hart, 1759 Silent prayers of confession Assurance of God s pardoning grace taken from Luke 1 and Romans 4 and 5 Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come and has redeemed his people. He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David. Our Lord Jesus Christ was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Words of institution Prayer of consecration Distribution of the elements Songs for meditation Sing to Jesus Come and see, look on this mystery Lord of the universe, nailed to a tree. Christ our God, spilling his holy blood, bowing in anguish, his sacred head. Sing to Jesus, Lord of our shame; Lord of our sinful hearts, he is our great Redeemer. Sing to Jesus, honor his name; Sing of his faithfulness, pouring his life out unto death. Come you weary and he will give you rest; come you who mourn, lay on his breast. Christ who died, risen in paradise; giver of mercy, giver of life. Sing to Jesus, his is the throne now and forever; he is the King of Heaven. Sing to Jesus, we are his own; now and forever sing for the love our God has shown.

My heart is filled with thankfulness to him who walks beside; who floods my weaknesses with strength and causes fears to fly; whose ev ry promise is enough for ev ry step I take, sustaining me with arms of love and crowning me with grace. My heart is filled with thankfulness to him who reigns above, whose wisdom is my perfect peace, whose ev ry thought is love. Here I raise my Ebenezer; hither by thy help I m come; and I hope, by thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home. Jesus sought me when a stranger, wand ring from the fold of God: he, to rescue me from danger, interposed his precious blood. (words continue on following page)

O to grace how great a debtor daily I m constrained to be; let that grace now, like a fetter, bind my wand ring heart to thee. This serves as a visual reminder of the simplicity of Lent: a time of prayer, reflection, and selfexamining humility before we celebrate Christ s Resurrection Day in beauty and splendor.

Exodus 15:1-18 1 Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD: I will sing to the LORD, for he is highly exalted. The horse and its rider he has hurled into the sea. 2 The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father s God, and I will exalt him. 3 The LORD is a warrior; the LORD is his name. 4 Pharaoh s chariots and his army he has hurled into the sea. The best of Pharaoh s officers are drowned in the Red Sea. 5 The deep waters have covered them; they sank to the depths like a stone. 6 Your right hand, O LORD, was majestic in power. Your right hand, O LORD, shattered the enemy. 7 In the greatness of your majesty you threw down those who opposed you. You unleashed your burning anger; it consumed them like stubble. 8 By the blast of your nostrils the waters piled up. The surging waters stood firm like a wall; the deep waters congealed in the heart of the sea. 9 The enemy boasted, I will pursue, I will overtake them. I will divide the spoils; I will gorge myself on them. I will draw my sword and my hand will destroy them. 10 But you blew with your breath, and the sea covered them. They sank like lead in the mighty waters. 11 Who among the gods is like you, O LORD? Who is like you majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders? 12 You stretched out your right hand and the earth swallowed them. 13 In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling. 14 The nations will hear and tremble; anguish will grip the people of Philistia. 15 The chiefs of Edom will be terrified, the leaders of Moab will be seized with trembling, the people of Canaan will melt away; 16 terror and dread will fall upon them. By the power of your arm they will be as still as a stone until your people pass by, O LORD, until the people you bought pass by. 17 You will bring them in and plant them on the mountain of your inheritance the place, O LORD, you made for your dwelling, the sanctuary, O LORD, your hands established. 18 The LORD will reign for ever and ever.

Our singing to the Lord is driven by: Sermon Notes God s Salvation s Song Exodus 15:1-18 1. his saving character in all times (vv. 1-3, 11-12, 18) 2. his saving work in the past (vv. 4-10) 3 his saving work in the future (vv. 13-17) I think we delight to praise what we enjoy because the praise not merely expresses but completes the enjoyment; it is its appointed consummation. It is not out of compliment that lovers keep on telling one another how beautiful they are; the delight is incomplete till it is expressed. It is frustrating to have discovered a new author and not to be able to tell anyone how good he is; to come suddenly, at the turn of the road, upon some mountain valley of unexpected grandeur and then to have to keep silent because the people with you care for it no more than for a tin can in the ditch; to hear a good joke and find no one to share it with.... The Scotch catechism says that man s chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. But we shall then know that these are the same thing. Fully to enjoy is to glorify. In commanding us to glorify Him, God is inviting us to enjoy Him. C.S. Lewis, Reflections on the Psalms
