Earlier i his miistry, he d avoided beig idetified as the Messiah. But ow, as he was makig his last trip to Jerusalem, where he would be crucified, he was ready for his idetity to be kow. Bartimaeus Faith Iitiates the Healig Notice that Bartimaeus faith i Jesus iitiated his healig. Jesus did t say, Because you ve lived a good life i spite of your hardship, I ll heal you. He did t say, Because your parets were so faithful to me, I ll give you your sight. Jesus respoded to Bartimaeus faith. Thigs have t chaged. Poor Bart held out his hads, askig for moey from the people passig by. Moey, please! he shouted. Moey, please, for a poor, blid ma. But most people just passed Bart by. Some of the people gave him moey as they passed. Others had o moey to spare but gave him high fives. Still others just walked by with their oses i the air ad igored him. Bart hated askig people for moey, but he had o other way to get moey for food, clothig, or a place to live. Fially, late i the day, Bart heard a large crowd shoutig, Jesus is comig! over ad over. Bart heard loud stompig footsteps ad souds of laughter. Jesus really was comig! With Jesus out i frot of the crowd, all the people came, leapig ad clappig! Bart was excited like the rest, so he cupped his hads ad bega callig out to Jesus, Jesus, So of David, have mercy o me! People i the crowd did t like how Bart was shoutig to Jesus. They rubbed their chis ad crossed their arms. Who does this beggar thik he is, callig for Jesus attetio? they asked. The people held their figers up to their lips ad shh d Bart ad told him to be quiet! Jesus suddely stopped ad held out his arms to getly quiet the crowd. He poited to Bart ad said, Call him. The Jesus said ad did somethig very amazig. Jesus said, Go, your faith has healed you. The people all started whisperig to each other i surprise. Bart slowly opeed his eyes. He bliked ad bliked. At first, Bart had to shield his eyes from the bright sulight. But whe Bart realized that Jesus had healed him ad that he could actually see, he started leapig ad jumpig with joy. I m healed! I m healed! Thak you, Jesus, he cried. Thak you, Jesus! Everyoe i the crowd got excited, too. The people bega to joi hads, dacig ad shoutig, Jesus is great! Jesus is great! Bart followed Jesus as they walked alog the road together. Talk With Kids Lead childre i this discussio. Ask: What actios that you did i this activity seemed to show Bart s faith to you?
