The Easter Triduum Some Musings Alleluia! He is Risen! Our Lenten journey is over. And we celebrate over these next days the great feast of our Church. It is the Feast of Feasts! The Festival of Festivals! We will listen to the stories of our salvation history as we hear the working of God in the lives of the Israelites; we ll hear the story of Jesus triumphant entry into Jerusalem and hear again the story of His condemnation and crucifixion; the story of His being laid in a borrowed tomb. But more importantly we hear the story of His resurrection. Yes! He is risen! These days of the Triduum are a powerful reminder of the love of our Father and Saviour. I feel a great wonder as I immerse myself in the readings and the rituals. I listen with awe as I hear the story of Jesus at His last meal with His disciples; washing their feet, knowing He will be betrayed by one of them and abandoned by all, yet leaving us with His Body and Blood to sustain us on our earthly journey. These three days are rich in meaning and blessing and we need to spend time reflecting on their meaning in our own lives. The Good Friday liturgy with all its horror and betrayal is a story of a love that s lasted from the very beginning of time a story of promises kept and fulfilled; of the steadfast love of a God and Saviour. The walk to Calvary is a walk of triumph for us. We are redeemed! Once again the doors of Heaven are opened for us. And our task? To act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with our God. And it s at the Easter Vigil when I hear the singing of the Exultet and our voices are raised in the singing of the Gloria that I pray that I can hold these powerful moments close and make them part of my everyday life, that I will carry God s great love and compassion to all I meet, to all who cross my path on a daily basis and make the world a brighter, more just place for all; remembering that ours is a God Who throughout history has yearned for a tender, close and loving relationship with each of His creatures regardless of how wayward and disobedient we may have been. I need to remember that throughout history God has wanted a deep and lasting relationship with us, His people, the sheep of His flock. As I hear the story of our salvation history I am awed by this God Who throughout time has been with us; calling us back to Him no matter how wayward and stiff-necked we might have been. And I stand in deep reverence at the foot of the cross, realizing again, that He willing accepted this dreadful death for us, because we are precious to Him. When I demand that God show me in some tangible form that He really does care, that He really does answer my prayers, all I need do is look at the cross and know truly how much I am loved. As we renew our baptismal promises this weekend, let s allow the waters of baptism wash away all that keeps us from loving God and one another as He would have us do. Let s let the waters flush away any lazy faith practices we may have fallen into and listen carefully to the words of the Creed and vow to live as though we really DO believe them. This Easter let s vow to live lives that give glory to this wondrous God, living lives worthy of this tremendous sacrifice of love. As the warming breezes of spring will soon awaken the earth to new life and new hope, let s allow the breath of the Holy Spirit to awaken us to new life in our Lord and Saviour. Wishing you an Easter filled with wonder and hope and many small miracles. Betty Bruch PARISH ACTIVITIES DIVINE MERCY NOVENA: 12:00 pm before mass during the Easter octave. We are starting small groups of high school youth that can meet as friends committed to one another and to honest sharing. We will be using YDisciple, which is an awesome program developed for high school youth. We are thinking of forming a group and going to World Youth Day in Panama next year. It would be awesome if we can! If you would like to join us, please register by sending your name, what grade you are in, and phone number to Raquel and JD at ydisciple.whitehorse@gmail.com. We ask for an initial commitment of six sessions with the first session being on April 8 th, followed by April 15 th, 29 th, May 6 th, 20 th, and finally, May 27th, from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm on Sundays, at the rectory (building behind the cathedral). After those 6 weeks you can see if you like it and if you would like to continue. Parents, we encourage you to watch the video Just for Parents on Formed.org (Select first "Study", then "Youth/YDisciple", then "Just for parents".
