SEPTEMBER 2016 The Messenger VOLUME 59 NO. 09 Pastor - Dr. Eric Spano Youth and Children - Bobby Vann Dear MPBC family and friends, Our Fall kick-off is just around the corner. On ember 7 th, we will begin our Fall schedule with a slew of Wednesday night activities all beginning at 7pm. We will have the nursery available for all who have little ones, the Pre-School Choir and the Children s Choir both begin, and the Generation 6 (Youth) will meet be meeting in the gym! I am excited about our adult Bible-study entitled The Heart of the Problem. It is a 12 week study which includes a workbook making the cost for the class $15 per person. That s right, this is not the kind of study that will allow spouses to share a workbook, I am sorry, but once we get into the study, you will thank me. Sadly, many Christians, who attend church and Bible studies week after week live with tremendous fear, anxiety, bitterness, anger, unforgiveness, and are generally not very happy people. Many of us are aware that we are not experiencing the abundant life Jesus talked about and we don t really know what to do about it. Often we find ourselves looking for relief from the problems of heart in unhealthy areas like relationships, food, work, drugs, alcohol, hobbies, and a whole host of other things. Why settle for relief when Jesus offers us a cure? Only God knows hearts, our thoughts, and the emotional hurt that manifests itself in all kinds of dysfunctional, sinful behaviors. Jesus clearly knows that the heart of the problem is the problem of the heart! In the words of Henry Blackaby commenting on The Heart of the Problem, Henry Brandt has done a great service to the earnest, seeking heart by doing two things: Confronting us with ourselves, and often at our most difficult and bewildering moments. Confronting us with God s clear provision for our every condition. In doing so, Brandt returns us again and again to the only place we can turn God, His Word, the Holy Spirit, prayer, and faith. Dear church family, if you are in need of spiritual growth or are just desiring to grow in your walk with Christ and are willing to put in a little work in order to know God and yourself better, I most highly recommend participating in this Wednesday night Bible study beginning ember 7 th at 7pm. Please call or email the church office to sign up. Also, the next time you are here just check the bulletin board and sign up on the list. I am excited about what God is going to do in and through us over the next 12 weeks! Grace and peace be with you all, Eric MPBC office email: mpbcoffice@mpbc.roacoxmail.com

Dear Church Family, Summer 2016 was an exciting and awesome adventure! God moved in powerful ways in so many of our students, stirring within them a desire to seek and know Him more. Pray with me that their passion would not fade, but instead that we would be able to help see them encouraged in following Him even closer each day. Pray with me as well that their passion would be contagious throughout our church and have an impact on each of us. As we ramp up for the new school year and get back into a routine I want to remind you that during this season of life, for students in school and for parents of students in school, we each have unique opportunities to be a light for Christ. As we interact with so many other students and families that school and sports put us into contact with let s do our best to not treat these interactions as routine. Instead let s make the most of each moment so that we can share the hope we have. Share about what God has done in your life through Christ, and specifically about what He did this summer. Let these stories of God s glory be always on our tongues so that more people would see that God is good! I pray that even though we are back into the routine of the new school year you will still take advantage of this as an incredible opportunity to make Him known! In Christ, Bobby COMING UP ember 10 RVBA Back to School Rally Saturday ember 10. There will be kayaking, swimming, ultimate Frisbee, and more! We will meet at the church at 11am and return by 6pm. These backpacks will be given out to children in need at Mt. Pleasant Elementary School. This program runs solely on donations! If you would like to help please contact Pat Sink or Libby Martin.
