` Th e Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set. PROVERBS 22:28 CRANBERRY BAPTIST CHURCH QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER FALL 2009 After evaluating his walk with the Lord, the Apostle Paul comes to the conclusion that he had not fully arrived. In Philippians 3:13 Paul declares, But this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forth unto those things which are before. As we celebrate Cranberry s 75 th anniversary, I am thankful for the many blessings and the favor of God on our church in the past. Cranberry is indeed a landmark in this community with a rich heritage! During my 19 years as Pastor, we have seen constant growth in our church. With the growing number of salvation decisions, baptisms and new members in attendance, I have been praying and asking the Lord to give us direction for the future of our church. Over the last few years, our men have looked at several options in expanding our facilities. However, the Lord has now opened a door to acquire, not just one adjacent house, but two! During our annual Business Meeting on August 26, the church membership voted to purchase these two parcels of land for $105,000. The obvious plan for these lots will be for additional parking. With this acquisition, of course, we will now have adequate space to eventually construct a new auditorium. All of this is in the hands of the Lord and I ask you to join me in prayer as we follow Him! The two houses we are purchasing (highlighted in t h e p i c t u r e ) f a c e Cranberry Drive and adjoin a house we bought in 1992. These three lots together total 0.60 acre and border the church s existing parking lot. In a culture that is redefining marriage and the family, Christian families must determine to understand and follow God s design for the home. Your home will be strengthened during Cranberry s Family Revival, October 25- OCTOBER 25-30, 2003 30. Our speaker for this special meeting is Evangelist David Young from Heath, Ohio. Brother Young has been conducting evangelistic revival campaigns since the fall of 1994. The Family Revival will begin with a combined Sunday School class (teens and all As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15 adults) in the church auditorium. Brother Young will also be bringing the messages for both Sunday services. Throughout the week, the Revival Meeting will begin 7:00pm nightly. A full choir, congregational singing, and special music will prepare our hearts for the preaching of God s Word. Your heart will be stirred by the preaching of Brother Young. Please begin praying, even now, for this special meeting. Also, do your best to be faithful to each service. During this Family Revival, will you allow the Lord the opportunity to help strengthen your home? Determine, as Joshua did in Joshua 24:15, that, As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. The Lord has put within the heart of our pastor a great desire to reach our Jerusalem for Christ. This year we started right at the front door of the church spreading the Gospel. There have been many faithful soul winners participate in summer soul winning campaign Operation Reaching Forth. We have successfully knocked all the doors in the Prosperity, Cranberry, Maxwell Hill and large part of north Beckley. There have been over 1,500 doors knocked, and 21 prospects who have expressed an interest in the church. I want to say a special thanks to all those who have worked so hard in the harvest field. The seed of God s word has been planted in the lives of many people, and now we must pray that God will give the increase. Fred Hart Teenager, the world is screaming out to you! Culture attempts to mold you to be like everybody else. Young person, the Lord is calling out to you, too. He calls you to be different. God s Word says in Romans 12:2, And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Our theme for this school year is DARE TO BE DIFFERENT. Will you MEET THE CHALLENGE this school year and break away from the mainstream? Throughout the year, you will be challenged to be different, on purpose, in areas such as your faith in God, your obedience, your sexual purity, choices, and many other ways. In the coming weeks, you will be challenged to step it up to be some things and to do some things that are very different from the world and even from many who call themselves Christians. In no way are we wanting to cram you into a mold. The goal is not to make you into a Christian robot. We are praying that, from a sincere and pure heart, you will live a life that is pleasing to your Creator. Besides, He is the One Who made you, you. LEROY PENNELL SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 2009 9:45AM, 10:55AM, & 6:00PM Dr. Pennell is the founding pastor of Heritage Baptist Church in Berrie, Ontario. All couples are invited to join us for Sunday School in the Fellowship Room each Sunday morning at 9:45am. This fall, learn the Biblical principles for the home, as well as, build friendships with other couples as we study this helpful series, A Firm Foundation. HomeBuilders (ages 20-35) Ty & Stacie Thomas Fellowship Bible Class (ages 35-40) Pastor Pauley Soaking Sopping Saturated Summer This has been one of the most exciting summers in the bus ministry of our church. Starting July 12 th, things got really wet on the buses. There was an intense battle between the buses which ended with the great water war on August 16 th. The competition included exciting days like Squirt Gun Sunday, Wet Sponge Relay, Cold Water Catch, Water Bottle Pass, Rain Drop Relay and many more! There was also a challenge for each bus rider to bring their Bible, bus flyer, a visitor and parents. In just a six week period, our bus workers were able to see 72 new riders visit the church! The most exciting thing about the whole competition is that children and parents trusted Christ as their Saviour! Thank you to all of the faithful bus captains and workers at Cranberry. Please continue to pray that God will bless and use our bus ministry for His glory. Fred Hart

The World Missions Ministry of Cranberry Baptist Church To preach the gospel in the regions beyond II Corinthians 10:16 It is time for our second Old-Fashion Tent Meeting. The families of Hinton Baptist have been praying since July that the LORD would sweep our town with a mighty revival. The Tent Meeting is scheduled Monday, September 7 through Sunday, September 13. The Sunday services will be Missionary Shane Davis very special, as we will be celebrating the one year anniversary of Hinton Baptist Church. Please pray for the men that will be preaching each evening; Dave Webster, evangelist from Prince Albert, Sask., Dave Harness, pastor of Victory Baptist in Sherwood Park, Alb., and Roger Pauley, pastor of Cranberry Baptist in Beckley, WV. There is much that has been done in the way of advertisement, such as news paper ads, billboards rented, and over 1,000 flyers handed out. However, without the moving of the Holy Spirit, all of our efforts will be in vain. May I echo the words of Paul, eternally preserved in Scripture, to the Thessalonians, "Brethren, pray for us". It is my firm belief that nothing will reach the lost and backslidden of Hinton, Alberta except a mighty moving of God in revival and spiritual awakening! May God gain glory from our labor! May Christ be magnified! CANADA MISSIONS TRIP On Wednesday morning, September 9, Pastor Pauley and Ty Thomas boarded an airplane in Charleston, WV en route to Hinton, Alberta, Canada to be with Missionary Shane Davis for the anniversary of Hinton Baptist Church. This Tent Meeting will feature several preachers, including Pastor Dave Harness of Victory Baptist Church, Sherwood, AB (reproducing church) and Pastor Pauley (Cranberry is the sending church). Pastor will be preaching Thursday night, Saturday night, and Sunday morning. Brother Ty will be involved in several aspects of this meeting, as well. In addition to the daily soul winning outreach, he will be helping in the special music of the meeting and assisting with sound equipment. He will also be preaching during the children s program on Sunday morning. It is exciting to see how the Lord is blessing the Davis family and the work in Hinton! Pastor with Shane Davis and Pastor Dave Harness As you read this update, I will be in Mongolia. We departed from Beckley on September 1st and will be returning on September 29th. Please take just a moment and pray for FirstBible Mongolia. Satan hates the Bible and surely does not want God s Word printed in the Mongolian language. Missionary Jeff Kruchkow We have much to do in a very short amount of time. The plan is to get the electric on, test each machine to make sure there are no problems, and spend as much time as possible working with the men on their equipment. This will be not only a refresher course but also more advance training for our experienced printers. The ultimate goal is to see a portion of Gods Word printed in the Mongolian language. The translation team has been working very hard. It is now our turn to work with them. We will be printing a portion of the Gospels in the Mongolian language. This will be a great help in discipleship as well as in door-to-door evangelization. We have had several missionaries contact us about their printing needs. Personalized printing can be a hard and costly item on the mission field. It is also a great asset in evangelization. Would you keep my wife and family in your prayers while I am out of the country? The school year is starting and we home-school six of our children. This adds more stress to my wife. It is obvious to us that anything that can go wrong will go wrong while I am away! Your prayers are needed and necessary for the work of the Lord both here and in Mongolia.

Please continue to pray for the missions program of the Cranberry Baptist Church. Currently, we are supporting 44 missionaries, with two families (Shane Davis and Jeff Kruchkow) sent out from our church. It is my desire to see our church top over fifty missionaries this year with a goal of at least $100,000 in support for 2009-2010. Our Faith Promise commitments have been averaging $4,654 per month since April, so we should reach $60,000 this year. Recently, during our annual Church Business Meeting, we approved an operating budget of $520,000 with a projection of $424,000 in collected tithes. As the Lord provides, we will allocate 10% of the tithes received to missions. This would give us $42,400 plus $60,000 in Faith Promise! It is important for every member to be faithful to the Lord in your tithing and your Faith Promise giving. Through your obedience, God blesses you and His work. Your faithfulness in giving not only expands the ministry here at Cranberry, but reaches the world with the Gospel. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts 1:8 Pastor Pauley HOW TO EFFECTIVELY PRAY FOR OUR MISSIONARIES Pray For The Missionary By Name Get to know them and their family personally. Use their prayer card and make a family profile on them. Learn the names of the husband, wife and children. Write to them and ask for their birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Read their prayer letters and make note of any specific needs. Make a card on each family and pray for them. Pray Regularly For Them Come up with a system where you will pray for them on a regular basis. You can pray for a missionary at mealtime, during you devotions, etc. The key is making it a part of your daily life. Of course, if the Lord puts a special burden on your heart, pray for them then and there. Pray Specifically For Them Here are a few specifics that you can consider. Pray for their Family: They are invading the devil s territory and he will do everything he can to attack their family. Pray for the husband and wife s relationship. Pray for their children and spiritual growth. Pray for the Single Missionary: They face a whole set of different problems on the field. As a single missionary, they are alone and will constantly do battle against the flesh. Pray that they will not anguish over difficulties and opposition. Pray that their faith stays strong. Pray for their Finances: Money problems are one of the top reasons why missionaries become discouraged and quit. The average missionary will lose a good deal of their needed support during a four year term on the field. Many missionaries go to the field with just enough support to make it, so when churches drop their support, or currency devalues, the devil will use these things to cause them great hardship. Pray also for the churches that support our missionaries. Pray for their Cultural Adjustment: Culture shock is very real. Many missionaries have a difficult time adjusting to new foods, lifestyles, value systems, and ways of doing things. To reach the people in their own culture is a hard lesson for some missionaries to learn. Pray that the Missionary family will be able to adjust in order to be happy and have a effective ministry. Pray for Strength in their Daily Tasks: Everyday living on the mission field can often consume much of their lives. Pray for their Health: Many work in harsh climates where disease is widespread and medical help is not readily available. Pray for their Pressures, Discouragement, Loneliness, and Fears: They are in the thick of the spiritual battle. They face emotional struggles with little or no help. Pray for Godly Wisdom for Them: They will need this in order to raise a Godly family and do the Lord s Work. Pray for Their Relationship with the Government of the Country where they are Ministering: Passports, visas, education are all problems. Pray for Their Ministry and Converts: Pray for open doors and tender hearts to receive God s Word. Pray for the Power of God on Them: Only missionaries with God s power will be seeing souls saved and a ministry that will stand the test of time. GREAT PROGRESS HAS BEEN MADE IN THE MA- NIPURI LANGUAGE PROJECT! 1. The translation work for this Bible Project has been completed. 2. The proofing of the translation work has been completed. 3. Currently the formatting for this Bible is being done in India. 4. Once the formatting of the Bible is completed in India, the layout will be brought to the USA for a final check to be sure everything is in the right place for printing. 5. The goal for this Bible going to press for printing is October 2009.
